  1. I get to experiment with diffent fletchings and weights, which keeps me occupied in the off season. I make arrows for 4 of us in the house, and friends. Also, I made a saw out of a 20$ Harbor Frieght cut off saw, monted on a 1X6 with yard stick and sliding bar for the butt of the arrow.
  2. They all work.....Excalibur, Ten Point and Bowtech fit and finnish and barrles are first class. Horton is the chevrolet, long time market leader with good value, but going through ownership problems (just bought by Greg Ritz) Barnett is alot of speed for the money, but inflated specs and quality issues. Plastic or metal barrel is something to look at. Crossbownation.com has many reviews. I live in the land of crossbows and play with all my buddies. Here is my 2 cents......they are intersting and a hunting tool, but nowhere near as much fun as my recurve and compound for year round shooting. Good luck to you.
  3. You are right, we should get back to arguing crossbows immidiately!
  4. Hey tominator, you have the wrong OSU up there being from Sunbury....are you cowboy or a Buckeye:flex: I am a little east of you north of Newark. We have been able to deal with the evil crossbow and still have fun.
  5. Man I thought you wanted a broadhead to use on your wife:eek:, and I was going to talk you out of it:p My daughter has used 85 grain Ultimate Steel and 85 grain Slick Tricks with success, the slick tricks fly better. I am dropping from 72 lbs to 53lbs for part or all of the season, due to a shoulder injury. I am going to try the Slick Tricks in 100 grain magnums and 100 grain Magnuss Stingers, on a 400 grain total wt arrow, shot at 29 " draw. It is new territory for me. Good luck to you.
  6. I have looked into all of them. I have had great success w/scent lok. The no trace is interesting, but limited fabric choices. I shy away from cotton in the cold wet north. 1) What brand of scent control apparel are you familiar with? - ScentLok - NoTrace - VisaEndurance - X-Static - ScentBlocker 2) What is the brand of scent control garment that you have purchased within the last year? - ScentLok - x-static 3) What was the main reason for your selection of this brand? - Brand name - Price - Scent Control Performance - Garment styling or features other than scent control 4) What type of odor control are you most interested in? - Antimicrobial - Adsorption
  7. Agreed. I found a local beetle colony and for 40$ will go that route if it does not warrant a shoulder mount next time.
  8. No picking, what was left fell off with a gentle pressure wash. I have less than 1 hour of work in this skull, it justs takes 6 months to get that 1/2 hour in. The plaque takes more work, but doesn't smell as bad.......
  9. Taped garbage bags around the antlers, and buried up to the antler base. Cover with large plastic storage tub with a cement block on top.
  10. I buried this skull in November, and dug it up Memorial day. It cleaned up easy with a gentle power wash. I wiped down with a degreaser and painted with a satin finish, not glossThis was by far the easiest method I have tried, but it smelled as bad a boiling when dug up, and you have to wait 6 months for the results.
  11. A view from the other side...... With a 20 year old son at home, you guys are making me nervous! Actually, he is away at school for 9 months out of the year, and I miss hunting with him in the fall. He has an apartment for the year, but works back home in the summer. I guess it would depend on how you and Dad get along. I think two strong willed males can butt heads in the same house. My Son and I do at times, but my worry now is he will move too far away for us to hunt and hang out together. Enjoy your time with Dad and see what happens.
  12. I tried a little buckeye pride on my last two plaques. I am going to copy your pedestal under the head next time. They look great, he should sell them!
  13. No set opinion here..... I shoot both. I have had success with spitfires and rocket sidewinders, and use them out of my high speed bow. I have used numerous fixed blade, and currently use magnus stinger 4 blade. All shoot well out of a tuned bow. It has been argued better flight mechanicals, better penetration with less energy fixed blade. The newer fixed blades I experiment with seem to fly like field points in a tuned bow.
  14. Re: Who\'s holding out.... Now I do hold out for 150", but many years I wanted the meat in the freezer and to concentrate on getting the kids a deer. Now I can just relax and work for horns. I still respect anyone's right to take any deer legally. Do what you enjoy, as long as you are within the regs.
  15. Re: Crossbow hunting...... [ QUOTE ] Seems that the crossbow actually makes bow hunters out of people, i wonder why that is?? I have never shot a crossbow, i dont ever plan too, i have shot aganist them in 3-D competitions...and i out shot them hands down, Why did you guys who switched from crossbow to regular bow switch?? [/ QUOTE ] They are boring. Nothing to play with in the off season. Little challenge to master. Is why I switched years ago. That being said Have no fear of them. They have not damaged Ohio bowhunting. I hunt side by side with crossbow hunters, and they do their thing and I do mine. I am happy to have their votes on hunting issues.
