fellow hunters...I am headed to Kansas this upcoming November 11 thru the 20th to do some bow hunting for whitetail. I will be hunting in units 4 and 6. How anyone have any insight on the follwomg: - What type of terrain / topography can I expect? - Are those heavily hunted units? - In general, how is the rut activity that time of year in Kansas? Really...I am just looking for any helpful insight. All input and info is welcome.

Fello hunters...with archery season right around the corner, I was wondering what most of you do as your preseason preparation at this time of the year. I am assuming most are probably shooting some arrows on a somewhat frequent basis, but what else? Hanging treestands? Scouting with binos? Cardio/conditioning? Shopping for new gear? Absolutely notrhing? I'd like to hear what most are doing to get ready for the upcoming season.

I have a 4 pin Cobra sight. 20, 30, 40, 50...and mainly hunt whitetail in PA and Ohio so that's all I need. I have been out west to hunt elk in Colorado and Idaho and I can say from experience, a 7 pin sight is needed if you want to increase your opportunities.

Depending on the terrain I am hunting and cover...I am usually right around 25 feet. Archery season I mainly use hang-on stands or a climber...and usually get to around 25 feet. Ladder stands I use for gun season...and usually go to about 15 feet.

For all you archers...how many arrows are you shooting daily at this time of the year?

Thinking about a new bow. Was looking at the Bowtech Admiral. Anyone have any comments about this bow, good or bad??

its a shame that first buck you posted seemingly meant an unfortunate demise. He was a friggin beast!

To each his own...if people weren't buying, they would be producing those types of bows. Some can afford, most can't...I spent $850.00 on my Bowtech General a few years ago because I wanted a new bow so I am guitly as well. But, not sure I'd go up to $2100 for a bow. Depending on what you are hunting and how it needs to perform I guess. Most guys just hunting deer don't need to spend that much.

I give you credit for letting him walk. He'll probably make it through and be impressive again this year. Not sure I could have held off though...that palmation is really cool. Good luck tracking him down this season!

I have a few of them...Lone Wolf and Summit Viper....the Summit Viper is pretty economical and comfortable...not sure where you live...but if their is a Dicks Sporting Goods near you...usually you can pick one up for under $200 this time of the year since they are tying to unload hunting inventory.

I have only used a Whisker Biscuit and would never switch.

Since I started bow hunting hardcore about 7 years ago...I have used Muzzy 3 blade, 100 grain broadheads. I have taken quite a few deer with them...including the 3 bucks I having hanging on my wall...and this past September...I took a 277 inch Pope & Young elk with one too. So..at this point...I don't plan on switching...they are cost efficient and performance effective!

In my opinion, that deer is dead...no doubt. The million dollar question is simply, "where at"? I once about 5 years ago made a 10 yard shot on a buck, down through its neck and into its chest cavity. It was Nov 2nd in PA and the rut was on. From the moment of impact...I saw blood...his coat was covered in blood...and I had a great blood trail. However, it took me and two others 2 days to find this deer.... 2.5 miles from where i shot him. The funny thing is...I gave him almost 5 hours before we even went to begin looking...never jumped the deer once...he just had it in him to go despite what ended up becoming a fatal shot. If 1/2 your arrow is in his body...your broadhead will be slicing away at internal soft organs...this deer will bleed out from the inside. If you want to recover this deer...my only advice is summed up in one word: Perserverance. Good luck!
