  1. I have just a couple of acres around my home and have two cameras set up and I am getting 3 different shooter bucks on camera almost every night. But that's the problem, they're at night. Does anyone have an idea as to how to get these bad boys in here in the daylight? The surrounding property is private and they do not allow hunting. I'm sure there is the occasional trespasser but there is not a lot of pressure. Any ideas?

  3. My son is eager to start shooting a bow. He has been shooting some of the cheaper bows that do no more than barely get the arrow to the target 10 ft away. What kind of bow should I get for him to really get the swing of archery. he is 10 years old. He really wants to get good and kill a deer with his bow. Can anyone help?
  4. :confused:I'm a newbie when it comes to crossbows, and I just purchased a PSE Copperhead. I don't know much about crossbows but I wanted to start fairly inexpensive and I got this bow for less than $170 brand new as a combo. I started shooting today and realized about every other shot the brass sight pins come loose. How can I fix this without lock tight. I also noticed the metal tab that the bolt slides under vibrates like crazy. Is there any fixes for this or is this just life with a lower end crossbow?
  5. I have the opportunity to lease 500ac in Northeastern Kentucky, Lewis County to be exact. I have never hunted Kentucky and was wanting to get some feedback on this. I understand that this part of the state is pretty rugged, but I'm not sure how bad. If anyone has any info they could give me please let me know. I have not been up there to see the property as of yet. Thanks
  6. I live in southern NC near the SC line and our hunting season is in full swing and the deer packed and moved. The property I hunt is very thick. When I say thick I don't mean Illinois thick where you can still shoot 100 yds through a thicket. I mean 40 yards in some places is considered open. This season I have seen 0 scrapes and few rubs. This property holds some pretty nice deer and I took a respectable buck during the muzzleloader season. During the muzzleloader and rifle season I was wanting to concentrate on taking some does but they're gone. I was seeing a few in bow season but now all I see is an occasional spike. Very few does and less mature bucks. As I said before I know there are several mature bucks around. I've hunted over food sources, trails, transition areas and nothing. I'm puzzled over the lack of buck sign. It's as if the rut never happened. I seen one chase all season. I change stands frequently to prevent being patterened by ole mossy horns and took a months vacation to hunt these guys and gals. But right now thet are not playing well with others. Our either sex season is over for now and gun season only lasts 3 weeks, do any of you have any suggestions as to how to kill freak nasty? I've tried the middle of the day thing to no avail. Just last night as I drove through the area I hunt I seen a giant 8 point standing on the side of the road. Probably should have made him a hood ornament. Just kidding, but some insight on what the heck is going on would be great. This is the second year in a row this has happened. Thanks a million.
  7. If you had to choose a crossbow or crossbow package for around $400 to $500 which one would you choose and why? I am looking to buy one and I'm a newbie when comes to crossbow selection. Thanks
  8. Well I bought the gun and it is immaculant. It has a Leupold VII scope, and a sling. Couldn't be happier.
  9. I'm not sure where you are hunting but in my neck of the woods I would love to see a doe. It's been since late Sept. early Oct. since I seen a deer period. I'm in the piedmont of NC and huntin has been terrible.
  10. This has not been a very good year for acorns in this area. Last year there was a bumper crop but I did not find many trees dropping and the ones I did find I didn't see much deer activity. One thought is over hunting but from the people I've talked to in the immediate area are fairly selective. Maybe it's just one of those years.
  11. I have about 200 ac. of land in NC that I have been hunting for about 6 or 7 years now. In the past hunting has been very good I have seen and taken some nice bucks, but this year is crazy. Normally by this time I have taken a nice buck and possibly a doe or two but this year it seems there are no deer. I have sat in a stand in different places for about 2 weeks and not seen a single deer. I haven't seen a doe all year! I have seen about 3 bucks and one of those was a shooter but that was in early bow season in Sept. Is anyone else experiencing this crazy season. For the past two weeks the weather has been cold a little windy but cold. Very little signs of the rut, and very little pressure. The hunters that border my land are having the same problem, no deer. Can anyone explain why you go from seeing deer year after year to nothing? I know it's not the fact we killed them all last year. I think I took 2 bucks and 2 does and that's it. This is a crazy year.
  12. I have the opportunity to buy a Browning BAR .270, with a Leupold VXII scope and sling. The gun has a wood stock and has less than a box of shells through it. The guy wants $650, is that a fair price?
  13. This past week I went to central Illinois for a week bow hunt. This was the second time for me to the Land of the Giants. What happened after we arrived was to say the least the worst trip I have ever had. After arriving Fri. we checked into the motel and Sat. morning began to hang stands. We were hunting private land that my partners uncle ownes. Sunday morning came and as I was on my way to the stand I see headlights at the other end of the field and it's a couple locals that hunt that property as well. My partner had a long heated discussion with the gentlemen and we were told to leave and not return. To try to keep the peace we moved to the other side of the road. Later on Mon. we removed our stands from our original hunting location. After getting rained out Tues. morning we took off for the woods that afternoon. Wed. came and I missed a nice 130 class 8 point. Wed. night we were met by a guy that hunted next door warning us that our friends across the street were in the process of causing us a lot of problems. They called the game warden and said we were tresspassing and baiting. I know better. My partner called his uncle who is a farmer and explained what was going on and he just didn't have time to fool with it. He was way behind on getting his crops in. I have no problem with that but what drives a person better yet a fellow hunter to want to cause so much grief? These guys made it a point to be beligerant with us every chance. There was plenty of land to hunt and we made it a point not to hunt near them. I don't understand why. We drove 13 hours and spent a lot of money to drive up there only to return 3 days early. Can't we all just get along?
  14. Thanks for the info. I couldn't be more pumped to here it. Hopefully you'll see pictures of the big one. Good luck to everyone.
