  1. I don't doubt the story one bit. I had a friend in college that did something similar with the exact same results. You should see 5 drunk guys laughing while one of their friends is taking a beating by a deer.
  2. Several years ago we were turkey hunting around Hundred WV. My cousins kept telling this story about a crazy Vietnam vet, Jack Stoneking, that lived up in the woods and was always doing all kinds of crazy stuff, shooting at people, slashing tires, throwing rotten carcasses on people and vehicles and so on. Baffled by the BS a friend and I were riding our ATV's around one evening scouting for turkeys and came across a road that had a bunch of crazy "keep out" signs. There was also two large piles of old bones and a couple of animal carcasses laying around. Well for some stupid reason we decided to drive down the road. As we rounded a corner we came upon an old house and a guy digging something out of the bank along the road. As soon as the guy saw us, maybe 25-30 feet away he got up and came running right at me. Before I could even grab the handle bar brakes he had a single shot shotgun planted on my chest. Super pucker factor. I immediately began trying to talk the guy down but one second he would be fine and then next second he would be tensing up to shoot. Asking us why we came up here, I now sputtered something out about some guys telling us to come up here and to ask for permission to turkey hunt. I can remember his answer plain as day, " well someone has played a bad joke on you boys, get off of your bikes". I had a pistol on me and thought about grabbing the barrel of the shotgun and drawing, but when I looked up there was a second guy standing in the doorway of the house with a scoped rifle pointing at us. At that point all that I could hear is my heart pounding and dueling banjo's. Once off of the ATV's the guy wanted to see the bottoms of our boots. My friend had been hunting in the general area a couple of days earlier and said that one morning he saw some guy dragging/grading the roadway. Well it was the same guy. He told us he drags the roadway so he can see and track where people wander. Thank God that my friend had a different pair of boots on. Probably 10 to 15 minutes into this thing the guy starts calming down but then he says "you know what's the best thing about them there ATV's", shrugging our shoulders he now said " I can break your Fing neck's, throw you over the hill and everyone will think that it was an accident". Sounds to me like bad just got worse. Trying to talk to this guy my friend dropped a couple of names of people that we knew in the area. One name would calm him down but the next would fire him back up. About 20 minutes later a third guy comes walking out of the woods completely dressed in camo, carrying a shotgun. Recognizing the guy; I gave him a ride on my ATV a couple of days earlier, he now calmed his brother down and told us to get out of there. Down the road we went and aint been back since! Lesson learned "keep out" means keep out !!!!! This would have to be the spookiest thing that has ever happened to me period.
  3. I've had a ton of success with the 2 bladed Rage but I think that I'm going to switch over to the 3 bladed. 16 deer over the last few years and have only lost 2 due to poor shot placement; high shoulder hits. I guess that the real problem that I'm having is lack of arrow penetration. 16 deer killed 0 pass through shots. 6 with compound 10 with crossbow, all have been from a tree stand 20-25 feet off of the ground. All have been within 20 yards, most under 10. I guess that the extreme angle is the biggest contributing factor. Hopefully the smaller hole/cutting diameter of the 3 blade will allow the arrows to pass through better. Anyone else having similar problems? My one friend is having the same issues, 1 pass through out of 6 deer.
  4. I purchased a Summit Goliath climber about 5 years ago and it has been about the best, most comfortable stand I have ever owned. Last week the plastic cover on the cable really started coming apart, so I cut it off and replaced it with new Summit shrink tube. Now the stand makes an unbelievable amount of noise when your climbing and continues to squeak every time you move or even breath. Any ideas on how to get rid of this problem would be much appreciated. I now wish that I would have spent the extra $15 and purchased a new pair of cables.
  5. How do you guys store your wool hunting clothes after the season is over.
  6. Re: Wool Coat Odor Tried just about everything, and nothing worked. Coat going back to Cabelas Friday
  7. Purchased a Cabelas, Outfitters Wool Dry Plus Parka a couple of weeks ago, and beleive that it is probably one of the best hunting coats that I've ever owned. The only problem is that the coat has a very strong odor about it. Kinda smells like burnt, wet burlap. Hung it outside for about a week and it still smelled. Washed it in scent free laundry detergent, and the coat absolutely reeked while wet. Dried, hung back outside for another week, and it still smells same as it did when I purchased it. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated
