  1. I actually had a nice entounter with a ringtal here in texas about 5-6 years ago. I got in my stand and had been in there for about 2 hours and sent to rest my feet against the carpet that was on the wall. All the sudden I heard growling. A ringtail had made himself a nice hiding spot in between the wall and the carpet. He proceeded to peak his head out and scare the crap out of me. I immediately got out of my stand and hoped he would come out. He eventually did when he realized I wasn't leaving. Crazy little critters.
  2. I have a Canon Powershot S5. Its a really nice camera with some nice accessories.
  3. Nothing spectacular, but some bucks that are going to be good ones in a couple of years. And the guys I hate
  4. http://www.deertexas.com/movies/Deerhuntingwithabird.wmv Now thats an impressive deer hunting tool.
  5. Is there some sort of medium that you can take out into the field with you that you can plug your Compact Flash cars into and download the pictures from the card onto. I want to say I have seen one before. There are times I dont have a laptop with me when I go to download so I want something that I dont have the bring the camera or the card back with me. Josh
  6. I have been a rifle hunter all my life. I started hunting when I was probably barely 3 shooting rabbits with a .22. Then when I was 4.5 I took my first whitetail with a 22-250. I have always wanted to maybe give bow hunting a chance. One thing that is always held me back was that the deer doesn't die right away. When I shoot a deer I always aim to break its neck, I like the deer to die instantly and not feel any pain. Its not that I think bow hunting is immoral in any sense, but before I just thought it wasn't for me. Now I am thinking about giving it a try. Thing holding me back now is that my ranch is only 200 acres. It just doesn't seem big enough to me that if I placed a bad shot that the deer would stay on the property and I really don't like trailing onto neighbors ranches. What do you guys think I should do to deal with this dilema? Josh
  7. He definately looks as if he is going to have bases so large you wont be able to get your hands around them.
  8. Just remember, I mentioned these are all the same deer. The identifying mark is on his left ear he has a white stripe. And as wtnhunt said these are Texas deer, they dont get this big at 1 or 2, not even in many breeder pens.
  9. How old would you say this guy is. Incase you can tell that they are the same deer, notice the white stripe on his left ear. The first picture is this past December, then the second one is March and the rest are in May. Remember these are Texas deer, not as big as some of you northern guys big dogs.
  10. I shot at one at this feeder about a week ago. I missed, it was an all around bad situation. I was shooting one handed while trying to hold open the window. Its a new stand I built and I hadnt put in the latches yet to hold open the windows. Plus trying to shoot 100+ yards with it facing dead on didnt help either. Yah I know excuses excuses. I did get a young one up at our ranch house. Hogs are the only thing I allow being shot from the ranch house. I dont care if its the end of the rifle season and Muy Grande is standing at the ranch cabin feeder, he is off limit labeled as a "Yard Deer". Josh
  11. The feeder is a Monarch Hunting Supply 1100# Port Protein Feeder www.deerfeeder.com
  12. JamesVee.....LeafRiver told me this Me: I am having a problem where my DC-6 is no longer showing a timestamp. It was showing one for many months, then one day just quit. I believe it was around a time I had downloaded pictures from the camera. I didn't notice it for about a month when I got back out there. LeafRiver: When it says stamp ON it is actually asking if you want to turn it on - there should be a question mark, when it says off it is asking if you want to turn it off.
  13. I am guessing that the deer around our ranch like my new feeder. I am right now running a 50/50 AntlerMax/Corn mixture to get the deer used to eating from it. They are actually eating all of it and not picking out the corn. I am pleased with that. The feeder was almost empty so I went ahead and put 100% AntlerMax. I am pretty sure they will still eat it without the corn. We are seeing alot of bucks eating at the feeder which I like. Not seeing as many does as I know there are, I think they are getting run off by the bucks. Would have prefered these guys didn't find it.
  14. What do you guys think....I cant tell for 100% sure if its a buck or a doe.
  15. For some reason recently my leaf river Dc-6 quit showing a timestamp even though it shows in the settings that the Stamp is set to ON. Anyone had this problem before?
  16. I am going to buy a Cannon Powershot S5 w/ Image Stabilization. Its 8MP and has 12X Optical zoom. Make sure you get one with Optical zoom not digital zoom.
  17. Id really like to try oat seed, but the online places are sold out of it. I dont know of anywhere around the ranch that sells it.
  18. Well I have pretty much made up my mind on which food plot mix from which company I am going to use. We have been getting good rain this year at the property. 3 inches thus far this month and outlook for the rest of the month looks good. I am just curious what other people are using in the Texas Hill country. Let me give you a little background of what I am working with. We just had some land cleared, so there is no grass there right now. One problem though is the soil is riddled with small rocks. Which makes getting a decent plow in to REALLY cultivate it. However we had luck in the past with more primitive means. Are the big names like Tecomate really worth the $$, are there brands that are just as good but alot cheaper. Like I said I have pretty much set my mind on what I want, but want some opinions. I didnt mention what I had decided on to see if this is recommended. Thanks in advance.
  19. Definuitely after speaking with my brother, I dont really need an DSLR. I think a good 5MP or higher with Optical zoom should be just great. Considering the one I have used over the last couple of years for other stuff has a digital zoom and is probably only 3MP or lower. Josh
  20. Does anyone know of a camera that would be good for taking pictures of wildlife? Id like a digital camera, but digital zoom stinks. Are there any digital cameras that have a manual zoom like some old cameras. Now if you know of a good digital camera that has good digital zoom, it will be an option. This obviously doesn't have to be classified a "Wildlife" camera. I just want to stat being able to take pictures of some of the really good bucks I have been passing up the last few years. Have proof I guess. I just know my normal digital camera just wont cut it especially if they are a good distance away.
  21. If not a turtle, then a Nurtia is my second guess
  22. I got creative in finding out how big some of the hogs are we have been seeing on our camera. So last time I was up there I made sure to let the camera snag some shots of me. Now the hogs sizing in the pictures has not been changed nor where they were in the picture. Al the pictures were taken from the exact identical spot. All I did was paste multiple picture ontop of one another then removed the background so as they stand is as if I was actually standing there with them. So how heavy do you think some of these guys are, and no not the tall one. He is like 230lb+
