    .280 rem

I shoot a TC Encore in .280 and really like it. I have tried many makes of ammo and I have chosen Remington AccuTip 140 gr.
  2. Thanks everyone. I have my eye on a SAKO 85 synthetic stainless in a 338 WIN MAG. I'll let you know when I part with the $.
  3. Mine are also scope mounted and leaning against the sides of the gun cabinet as you have described. If you come up with anything that works, let us know.
  4. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Uff da (can also be spelled uff-da, uffda, uff-dah, oofda, ufda, oofta or ufta) is an exclamation of Scandinavian origin that is relatively common in the Upper Midwestern states of the United States. It roughly means "drats," "oops!" or "ouch!", especially if the "ouch!" is an empathetic one. In Norwegian Midwestern USA cultures, "Uff Da" translates into: "I am overwhelmed."

    monster buck?

That's a monster as far as I'm concerned.
  7. Sorry guys... I just think you need a bigger gun for a 1000 lb animal. My .308 or .243 are just perfect for whitetail. Not just that.... I love COCOA!

    Weekend plans?

I'm getting out of this cold and blowing snow and flying to Orlando Florida. Business trip but at least I'm not shoveling snow.
  9. I am surprised when reading the threads how many Canadians are members on the RT forums. Does anyone know how many Canadians are members on this site?
  10. Like many have said before me, "WOW" I have hunted for more than 20 years and I have never seen a pig like that. I hope he knows what he's got.
  11. I wear 1000 gram Rocky's for most of the fall but on really cold days of early winter, I take them off in my stand and also wear the boot blankets that were mentioned earlier, with those disposable warmers in each. -20 C and my feet are always warm.
  12. If you are buying your first gun ever, and plan on going deer hunting, I wouldn't make my first gun a .300 weatherby mag. Great gun, but if your not use to shooting, I would say it's a little much. Have a look at a .270, .308 or 30-06. These are all great calibres and will suite you well for the rest of your life. Put a .300 mag on your list of things to buy before your 25th birthday but dont' start there. For a scope, purchase the best scope within your budget. My suggestion...a .308 bolt action with a Bushnell 3200 3X9 scope. Great gun, good scope. You will have it for years. If you want to spend a little more for a scope, the Nikon Monarch is a great scope as are the scopes in this price range from all the name brand manufactures. Good luck, hunt safe and have fun!
  13. I was surfing the web and read this quote from Chuck Hawks that I thought I would share with all my friends from the OTPG. "Recoil is probably the biggest concern with any .300 or 8mm Magnum, and particularly with the Super Magnums, which are very unpleasant to shoot. Perfect stock fit is paramount. It is not easy to hit a medium size animal precisely at long range (in excess of 300 yards, let's say), and it becomes a lot more difficult with a rifle that kicks hard. As big game guides have learned, most shooters simply cannot shoot their big case .30's accurately; they simply cannot concentrate on the fundamentals of trigger release and sight picture with that much recoil looming over them"
  14. Looks great. I'll take mine medium-rare,... thanks.
  15. The exact same think happened to me. A black bear got a hold of it. I tried many times to fix it. The frustration wasn't worth it and I bought a new one. I hung the new one from a tree and put stove pipe around a tree to keep the bears off. Hope it works. I did end up getting great bear photos on the trail camera.
