  2. i forgot to mention that I have found some information on the internet but a lot of it doesnt seem to be meant for the newbies out there. So if you can keep that in mind for your explanations I would appreciate that haha
  3. Hey guys, wow it has been a while since i have been here! I miss the ol' forums. But anyway, i decided to upgrade the optics on my Tikka T3 Lite so I picked up a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x50. Now I'm not really experienced with scopes, as i have only had 2 scopes in my lifetime and both were cheaper scopes with not many features. So I need help from you guys as my new scope has some features that I am not familiar with. My new scope has push/pull turrets with resettable zero. Which to be honest I am not exactly sure how it works and what not lol. As well it has a mil dot reticle which I have heard can be used for range finding and some other things as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!
  4. congrats, great job. i wish i could get out this year but i dont think its going to happen
  5. wow gorgeous place. thats great that you got to spend some time with him. we all have to treasure moments like that.
  6. wow that is cool. the closest thing i have seen to that is this bear my uncle mounted. it was so blonde it was almost white
  7. those axis are beautiful animals, it's amazing the creatures the Lord created. congrats Leo
  8. ya there is something with the muzzle. the only way to fix that would be to get it mounted again with a different cape. there is no way, that i am aware of, to fix this without getting it remounted. i think he also should have added some white in the ears with a bit of pink. they look too yellow. personally i like to have the ears back too but thats a personal choice. makes all the antlers look larger, not saying your buck isnt big, its a gorgeous animal. just on every buck it makes it look bigger from a booner to a little buck. when i worked for my uncle we probably did 95% of the whitetail and mule deer with the ears back because thats what the customer wanted. you can also do the ears in different positions from each other. like one back and one slightly more ahead. if you watch whitetail in the wild their ears are always moving in different directions. to me it gives it that more natural look. plus getting it mounted with a turn in a semi sneak form will also help your trophy look more life like. another good thing to do is get it turned with the side you want to highlight more. not that im an expert at allll or even close. just my opinions. but none the less great buck
  9. i didnt know that, interesting
  10. Re: I\'m backkk thanks guys, i appreciate it. ya ive got 5 more to do for guys. when i finish them ill take pics and show them to you guys.
  11. Re: I\'m backkk ya i use a dremel tool and depending how far down you go you get different shades. to do some addtional shading i just use a plain ol' pencil crayon, works like a charm. when i start i use a white pencil crayon and free hand a basic outline on the antler. then i start carving and keep going into more detail.
  12. Re: I\'m backkk ya when it snapped it almost killed me lol. my buddy would have had to load both of us in the truck.
  13. Re: I\'m backkk Hey Buckee, thanks a lot . It depended on the size of the antler and if you provided me with you own antler or not. But from $150 for a smaller one up to $300 usually.
  14. Hey guys! Not sure if you remember me, I used to come on here all the time. Might remember I would often put my drawings on here. But I moved away to assist my uncle out at his taxidermy shop. So I havent been on here in a while. Actually my account was deleted lol. So now I'm back to a fawn, shoot lol. Just thought I would fill you in on whats been goin on. Like I said I worked for my uncle at his taxidermy shop. I was his assistant and I had a bunch of things to do. Mostly preparing capes for him to mount. So like cleaning, tanning and I did some fleshing. Did whitetail, mule deer, moose, elk and antelope capes. Also had to cape animals that guys brought in, make panel mounts and lastly antler carvings. These antler carvings were pretty cool. My uncle was doing them and he convinced me to give it a shot knowing I did a lot of drawing of deer and all that. So I tried it out and they turned out pretty good. I ended up doing a lot of them. Including custom pieces. Like guys would bring in pictures of bucks, etc that they had taken and I would carve them into a moose antler. Ill post some pics of a few I have done. My uncle also let me mount a couple bucks I had taken(pics in the taxidermy forum). I learnt a lot and it was great. Combining my love for hunting and a job was awesome. Being out there I also got to hunt a lot more. So there was a lot of time spent in God's creation. Lots of adventures, one of which was taking another bull elk and being on that high then the next morning having our tent burn down.....haha ya i know, crazy! we have video of both events. here is a link to a video my buddy made of his highlights from the hunting year, including the bull elk we shot and the fire... . I also got into competitive archery. Had a lot of fun with this. I was able to go to a bunch of different shoots here in Saskatchewan and definitely love it. Of course I also went out hunting with my bow but I wasnt able to harvest anything with it. Definitely want to get out there again tho. Well thats my update haha, I hope to be on here a lot more once again. Take care you guys. [image][/image] [image][/image] [image][/image]
  15. Hey guys. I used to come to this forum quite a bit but then I moved away to help my uncle out at his taxidermy shop. I learnt a lot from him and he let me mount the two deer I took while I was working for him. The whitetail was my first attempt at mounting and the mulie was my second. Sorry guys I made the pics a bit too big.
