  1. Happy Birthday. Got my first bobcat three weeks ago. It was a cold, slow hunting morning for deer. Nothing came out until this guy showed up around 11am.
  2. Buy what you can afford and practice, practice, practice. Join an archery club or go out with your friends and shoot from all sorts of situations. Have fun!
  3. I drive 207 miles from Buda to Crockett, TX. I pack an ice chest with the power of XX (Dos Equis), my hunting apparel, provisions for a week, my Mathews XT and I'm gone!! I just love this drive, cutting through Bastrop, Caldwell, Madisonville, Crockett, then to the lease. It backs up to the Davy Crockett National Forest. Big Bucks, Big Steaks, Big whiskey and true testimonials!!
  4. Mathews XT Man, Buda here. Say, I shoot the XT. The XT has been my only bow. Picked it up the year it came out. Never bow hunted in my life. My buddy got me started. He shoots Mathews, too. Told myself that if I was going to pick up this sport, I wanted the best. Take care!
  5. Hung one up three weeks ago. Time to go shopping for a new harness. BTW, it's raining here in a-town, tx. Looks like November outside. Hard to get rain in these parts the past few years in July. Thank you, Great Lord!!
  6. Funny how you said Obama was able to "sway" hispanic voters. How about the Republican party not able to reach out to the hispanics in general. With most being Catholic, the Repubs would sure do well with Right to Life issues. Unfortunately, the Repubs have done a poor job of embracing hispanics over the years. Yeah, they got Rubio and a few others, but that's miniscule to the number of hispanic politicians that represent the Democratic party. What it comes down to is trust and the candidate the Repubs put out there was not trustworthy by hispanics or women. Fix the party by welcoming hispanic voters and women and you will win 2016. Also, quit blaming Obama for the way things are turning out. I keep hearing about having to hunker down becaue the next four years will be worse. So do something about it. Work hard and make a difference. Be part of the solution, not the problem.
  7. Good morning all, wondering if there are any East Texas Hunters out there. I've been hunting near the Crockett National Forest the past few years. At times during bow season I've felt like the rut was on, but I usually end up having to leave a day or two after rifle season starts so I never really get to see if the rut is on or not. It's crazy, but come Thanksgiving, deer seem to vanish for the rest of the season. Any E-Texas hunters experience the same thing? What strategies do you use at any point of the season, bow or rifle. (I say rifle, but I actully enjoy bow hunting at that time rather than rifle.) Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  8. Two-year old Chocolate lab. Hard headed, bud love him so. They always told me chocolates were stubborn. He is, but that's ok. They also told me labs chew. My Boomer doesn't. He tried when he was little but I was around him pretty quick to make him stop. Loves to run for sure, BUT, for some reason he hates water. I mean he throws a fit when I turn on the hose. I'll hold it still long enough for him to come take a drink, but the moment I move my hand, he's gone! Wow! Never figured a lab to hate water. Oh well.
  9. Tried it a few weekends ago here in Buda, Tx after buying three new arrows from Archery Country in Austin. It was hot, but thought with the new arrows I'd be motivated after not shooting for almost six months. I shoot in groups of three so on the third round I told myself to shoot for the nock, even though the other guy in my head told me not too. Well, I didn't listen and shot my second Robin Hood. Darn! Didn't mean to do that. I guess in the end I figured, if I'm that close, no need to continue practicing. I'm waiting until it cools off to start practicing again. Oh well.

  11. Was feeling like doing a little shooting after watching some football today. I don't get to practice much because I spend a lot of time with my 9 year-old son with fall baseball. Set up my target from 30 yards and after a few, I got one! Awesome feeling! In all honesty, I was just trying to place the arrow in a good spot. Since I don't practice much, maybe I was focused just a little bit more. Mostly luck, but I'll take it, though. Thanks for checking the pics out.

    Rip u.s.a.....

I've seen some hard and obnoxious things on here, but this is it. you and anyone else who feels this way are more than welcome to get out of this country. You just disgraced anyone who served and anyone who is currently fighting for this country regardless of what you believe in. I'm a little league coach and I teach not only the game, but what this great game stands for. We teach the fundamentals, hardwork, and most of all, focus on fun. I truly believe that what we do will help all children to become responsible adults. However, your sick post represents a negative tone. Something I will never in my life tell a young child that our country is dead. This is and always will be the land of opportunity. If you are choosing to be sore about who your country chose, then by all means take the next flight out.
