I have seen three deer shot with the 225gr factory ammo, all from rifles. They performed very well on deer shot from 30 to 108 yards

My gun (Encore) shoots the 250gr Shockwave and 240 gr Dead Center equally good, but I much prefer the Dead Center for performance on deer.

Anybody tried any of the new WhiteHot pellets? Have seen the adds but have not found any to try yet.

Thanks guys. I have always been a revolver guy, and my only auto is a 1911. I guess the major difference is exposed hammer vs. striker fired, which I have no experience with. I hope to get a chance to shoot both before I decide.

Hey guys, been thinking about getting a compact/sub-compact carry auto, 9mm. Any one have any experience with either/both guns? I have narrowed what I think I want down to these two, but have not gotten a chance to compare them side by side yet. Just wondering what anyone thinks who has shot or owned them.

If I get you, it sounds like you are more interested in a fun, accurate, reliable handgun, and concelment is secondary, not that you don't intend to get well versed with it. In that case, I like the idea of a 1911. Not only are they great guns, but also a great piece of history in design, etc. As with most of us, I am sure it will be your first of many handguns, and as you gain experience or have need for more conc. carry, you will also own guns specifically for that. I recently purchased my first 1911, Springfield MC Operator, and only regret not owning one sooner. I too carry it mostly in vehicle and for home defense. I can and have carried it on body, but it is far from easy to conceal. I have small revolvers when CC is called for, and think of the 1911 as semi-concealed carry, folks can usually see your packing something, and sometimes that isn't a bad thing.

Back when we were getting my nephew into deer hunting, I tested the waters with some lighter loads. Harvested a doe very cleanly with 70gr. blackpowder and a 240 gr. hornady. It isn't "devestating", more like punching a hole, but the track job easy and short. I did shoot some 50 and 60 grain loads, but with the light bullet, could percieve no difference in recoil between 50 and 70.

I saw the list, but it might have been in a magazine article, they are talking about the triple 7 primers, the Remington ML primers, and I am not sure if any other companies had the reduced charge 209s. Any standard 209 for shotgunning should work fine.

Found some at Sportsman's Warehouse, actually had to have them set aside a jar for me, as they said typically they get 5-6 in and they are gone within a day. Waiting for some cooler weather and a weekend off to give it a try.

My gun is a reliable 45-50 yard gun, but I have only shot 2 birds beyond 40, and both were mis-judged yardage. I try to stick to a 35-40 yard max, and typically, if a bird is coming that close, you can let him get closer. I shot 4 this year with the longest being 24-25 yards, and the shortest being 7 yards (too close actually). I like to shoot them in the 20-30 yard range.

Let it go away and see what results. The success of the turkey and support State DNRs received to make it happen could reverse just as quickly. And as stated, so very few of the conservation organizations still hold (or have ever held) hunting rights to part of thier mission. One less pro-hunting group of any kind is a step in the wrong direction.

I have a .44 tracker and it is a nice pistol. I also have had one of their snubbie .38s, really liked it (regretfully traded it away), and have bought a taurus snubbie .32 H&R Mag. for the wife that is a great little gun. It outshoots any other snubbie I have ever owned for accuracy, and I think I may replace my .38 with another .32 Mag for me.

In my circle of friends, we typically are talking about the net score when discussing deer we shoot, even estimated scores of deer we see. As stated before, that is the score that the books look at, so we try to judge deer based on that. One of the guys in the group is a P&Y scorer, so it just seems to be the lingo we stick with.

I have killed 6 deer with them, all great performance, and if you don't hit a rock upon exit, have never had one I couldn't re-use. I am no wizard at sharpening knives, and the Accusharp and Redi-Edge sharpening tools I use for knives work great on the ST blades. They fly great out of any bow I have ever seen them shot from, and put big holes in deer.
