  1. Does anyone here have any experience hunting Siloam Springs here in Illinois? I am going to be down there from Nov. 5th-20th to bowhunt then gun hunt the first season. I have never been down there but needed a place to hunt this season and got lucky and drew a gun permit. I'm not looking for any secrets just general info. I know that the Buckhorn unit is archery only and heard that the main park gets a lot of pressure but that's all I know right now. I have plenty of time to scout, just would like to hit the ground running if I could.
  2. Ok this topic hits home for me. Let me start by saying I have been deer hunting since I was 13( 22yrs) and have never lost a deer until last year. I honestly put what looked to be a "perfect" shot on my biggest buck to date. He was broadside at 25yrds standing perfectly still and I put the arrow right at the "crease", he ran about 50ft, stopped looking back, then just walked away. Now normally I would have put another shot on him but he stopped behind some junk and I figured my shot was money. I gave hime about 45 minutes and found my arrow and blood immediatly, followed by a blood trail a 2yrd old could follow right to where he stopped to look back where there was a big pool of blood. That's where things go south, from that point on there was NO blood!!! I could see him when he walked away for about 120yards so I know his direction of travel and could find nothing. This made me absolutley sick!!! My buddies helped me look for this deer for 3 straight days and could not find anything. So i'm not saying its the norm to put that perfect shot on a deer and not find it but it does happen. I wish I knew what happened?

    Arrow help?

I am looking for some new arrows and was wondering what everyone likes to shoot. I've been shooting the BPS Carbon Lite Supremes for a long time and thought about trying something else. I knwo there are pros and cons to just about anything out ther and don't want to start a war here just curious what you guys like. Any recommendations?
  4. I couldn't agree more and we won't have another N wind here until Sunday.
  5. It's the moon but on the bright side it will be rising later each day and by next week will be up most of the day instead of all night. It should keep them on their feet most of the day!!! And I am on vacation starting Saturday.
  6. I am stoked!!! I start my vacation tommorrow and have the next 9 days to hunt as hard as I can. Saw 2 nice ones last weekend and hope to meet up with one again.

    Foiles?

I've heard a lot of "rumors" from some people in the know but until I see something offical they are just that " rumors." However I will say one telling sign is that he is no longer advertised in any of the FA ads this year in the catalogs or magazines, odd? But like I said I will continue to give him the benefit of the doubt because I like his calls and have met with him on a couple occassions and he seems like a pretty good guy.
  8. It's been kinda slow here so far. Went out Sunday evening and only saw a doe and button buck. I did see a 1 1/2 yr old 6 pt trailing 2 does last week, but no mature bucks on there feet yet. Hopefully they get started this weekend!!!
  9. Try any of the Buck Gardner Spit Tech calls. They are guaranteed not to stick!!
  10. I am no gunsmith so forgive me for not having the proper terminology, but my buddy had the same problem a couple years ago. It ended up being the metal "tab" in the action that keeps the shell in line as it goes into the barrel. Sorry I don't know the exact name here. He ended up taking it into a gunsmith and got it fixed pretty cheap and quick.
  11. I have used the Redhead line for a few years and I really like their stuff.
  12. I have been doing the same thing for a couple years here in N Illinois and I can attest to the brassica "problem." Last Year I had a 1/2 acre plot and it was wiped out in about a day maybe two. I have had alfa, brassica, and clover plots and the clover have been the ticket for us. They hold up well to the pressure the deer put on them and they are great for small hunting plots. Plus we have had luck growing them just about anywhere we get some sun. Also all the hard work is worth it when you harvest your first deer out of a plot you did yourself!! Good luck.
  13. I have never hunted Pike county so I can't comment on the hunting there but where I hunt we do kill some decent deer and its free. Trying to find a piece of private ground anywhere anround here is almost impossible but if you put in the time knocking on doors and talking to people it is possible.

    arrows

These are the arrows I have been shooting for a few years now and I love them. I shot Beemans before and had a chance to shoot these and there was no difference performance wise for me. I recommend them to anyone who asks about buying arrows and so far there have been no complaints.
