"H.R. 45 is a resurfacing of 2007's H.R. 2666, which contained much of the same language and was co-sponsored by 15 other representatives and Barack Obama's current chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel. H.R. 2666 was assigned to the House Judiciary committee, where no action was taken." Off to the doctor I go to get blood pressure medication.

Before we start blaming people for double standards, I would suggest we all take a look in the mirror and see if we have "perfection" tattooed on our foreheads. I'm not perfect by any means, and I doubt everybody here is perfect in every way. He told a lie, he came clean, he will live with it and deal with whatever admin action may come. The only way he will be able to forgive himself is to not to do it again. If we didn't have these imperfections about ourselves, we would have no reason to have integrity, honesty, character, etc. We would all just be perfect. Think about it before you tell everyone how many fish you caught, and how big they were. After all, it is a lie. Check out the politics room..It's chock full of lies by those who choose not to accept facts. Learn what you can from it, then let it go. double standard –noun 1. any code or set of principles containing different provisions for one group of people than for another, esp. an unwritten code of sexual behavior permitting men more freedom than women. Compare single standard (def. 1).

To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice. ~Confucius You may have done wrong to begin with, but you did right by coming clean. Apology accepted here. If we didn't have mistakes, we would only be half way educating ourselves.

I don't know. I'm seeing more and more garbage being pushed onto the market these days. Sort of cheapens the office if you ask me. I personally don't know how one could compare Obama to Washington in the first place.

Is on t.v. right now selling Commemorative Barack Obama coin sets. 4 for $19.95, with one of them being a $1 gold coin with Obama's face on the back with George Washington. I'm rushing to the phone...not.

Well then...I was just sitting here having my own little pity party all day and I reckon that put a stop to it. Thanks.

1. What is a U.S. Allied Soldier sent to slaughter? Check the death toll of terrorists, extremist fighters, and the remnants of dictator governments...Whose getting slaughtered now? Patriotism is a great thing, you should try it sometime. 2. Fraid you haven't been paying too much attention to the news over the last couple of years if you think Bush got everything he ever wanted. Unfortunately for us, those who put Obama and all of his constituents in office, I am afraid they have taken on a more European/Australian way of thinking. Hide our heads and hope it goes away.... 3. I don't have to "realize" anything from a country who lets their government "run" everything. So I don't really care what Australians think. Our governments are very different. Comparing the two is apples and oranges. 4. Last time I checked, historically, we left Europe for a reason. Recently? Those people left for a reason too. So I don't much care what Europe thinks either. Got a beef? Throw shoes at your own government and hope a 9/11 doesn't happen on your soil...After all, they will most certainly buy you a new pair.

For your viewing pleasure, here is the Fiscal Year 2009 Budget for the United States.... http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2009/pdf/hist.pdf It's a glorious 342 pages of pure, unadulterated entertainment that will keep you awake for hours on the edge of your seat! All kidding aside, a lot of blame is being placed on Bush for this "debt" but I have yet to see anyone taking into account the multitude of natural disasters we have had, the "pork" projects of both parties, etc. Take a look at the "historical trends" starting on page 9 and keep going. I think if you take the time to actually sit down and skim through this document, you will have all of the answers you could ever want. My burning question is...How can anyone place a dollar amount on the safety of this nation? I don't care if it goes to $10T if it means these terrorists will be flushed from their caves out of hiding and readily "judged" via American Soldier. Before you place blame...educate yourselves on something other than CNN. We actually only know of a very small percentage of where that money is going. The Global War on Terror fund is one big pot encompassing operations overseas AND homeland security. Blaming Bush is like blaming the recent discovery of massive amounts of sea ice on global warming. Me? I blame terrorism. People just ache to point a finger when something is beyond their control. Pathetic really.

Ever heard of the Aussie smile? I had an Australian Shepherd that did that same thing. When he got excited or happy, he would "smile." Which my neighbor took as threatening and called the cops on us saying we had a vicious dog that was threatening her. I told the cops about the smile, they interacted with the dog (which would rather pee on you than attack), and they went on their merry way. Great pic!

2nd admendment rights do you think we'll have it much longer
nativetexan replied to ryan.u's topic in Politics
Welcome Ryan. There is quite a lot of debate on here about that. It is definitely a concern. I think we are looking at a lot of attempts to legislate it out, and it will not be without a fight that it remains. Stick around. Many of the people on here will often post things we all need to be concerned about. Welcome again! And yes, what do you think? -

No, I don't mean that furry little alien creature from television past. What I mean is the Animal Liberation Front. Most of us here know the kind of methods they resort to in order to get their point across, but I am pretty sure that some don't. As part of my daily internet routine, I like to surf some of my favorite websites that keep me informed of things of this nature. The website below is one of them. Now, these guys make PETA and the HSUS look like an Alice in Wonderland tea party. They are also known as domestic terrorists. Chock full of hypocrisy, and other falsehoods to get people to follow along with their plight. Much like international terrorists such as Al Qaeda. We know they are violent. We know they are destructive. What we should be educating ourselves on is their political affiliations. You will find that most every website I have perused recently will have some sort of support for Obama, and also some sort of hatred for Bush/McCain. There are some big names in government that most of us know are on the payroll (donation wise) with some sort of Animal Rights group. Some of them are conveniently "upper class" such as the Sierra Club. Which also through funding, has supported some actions in the past of anti-hunting. Now, when arguments flair up on here about support/non-support for Obama and the Democratic Party, I will ask only one question...How can we consciously vote people into office that are entertwined with these groups, and say it is for the good of a nation, hidden behind the label of "Change?" Change what I ask? If you ask me, we just allowed that "change" to be in the form of support for domestic and international terrorism. If only through funding and legislation. Nobody has a leg to stand on when it comes to this website below. For the record, did anyone know that it was Bush's buddy in power Tony Blair who put a stop to hunting in the U.K.? Yep. His platform when he ran was partly funded by animal rights groups. What a tangled web we weave.... This is the most recent story you might enjoy.... http://www.animalliberationpressoffice.org/communiques/2008-12-04_expoburns.htm

So we put one in every office all the way up to the President...I especially like the comment "We are not, any of us, talking about federal money to expand spending, expand programs, to do new things," No, you already expanded them, and now you're in the hole. Blame the Republicans all you like Democrats...Just a sign of what is yet to come. Before anyone pipes off "It's Bush's fault," Keep in mind state budgets are different from federal budgets. I can tell you that here in New Jersey, Corzine has done everything in his power to put this state "below the Charmin in the toilet." And it has nothing to do with the U.S. economy. I also think if you look at the states listed, you will have answered your own question. One last thing...Read close..."Money to pay for social services such as Medicaid." Your first clue... Democratic Governors Asking Government for $1T Bailout Package Governors from Wisconsin, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Ohio are seeking funds to deal with unprecedented state budget shortfalls in 41 states and Washington, D.C. MADISON, Wis. - Five Democratic governors are asking the federal government for a $1 trillion bailout package, including $250 billion for education and $150 billion in middle class tax cuts. The governors from Wisconsin, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Ohio on Friday said they have presented their plan to President-elect Barack Obama's transition team as well as congressional leaders. They said that level of federal aid is needed to deal with unprecedented state budget shortfalls in 41 states and Washington, D.C., that the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities pegged at $42 billion for the current fiscal year alone. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle said congressional leaders and the Obama team have been receptive to the governors' ideas. "That's not to say they've told us this is what they'll do or they're with us all the way," Doyle said. He also said other governors were involved in creating the plan, which grew out of an early December meeting that Obama had with the nation's governors. Obama's aides and congressional leaders have been talking about a package roughly half the size of the two-year plan the five governors proposed Friday. Over two years, $1 trillion is equal to more than 3 percent of the gross domestic product, the U.S. economy's total output. A package of that size is likely to draw significant opposition from congressional Republicans and concern from moderate and conservative Democratic lawmakers who oppose large budget deficits. In addition to the money for education and tax cuts, the governors said their plan includes $350 billion for road construction and other infrastructure projects and $250 billion for social service programs such as Medicaid. The governors all said their states are facing unprecedented budget shortfalls that will require deep cuts to services and possibly irreparably harm their education systems. "We aren't crying wolf," Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland said. "These are real circumstances, unprecedented situations we are facing." Ohio's budget deficit could grow to $7.3 billion even after $1.9 billion was cut from its current budget, Strickland said. New York Gov. David Paterson said his state faces a $15.4 billion deficit. Wisconsin's budget is expected to be $5.4 billion short by mid-2011. New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine said he had just left a meeting with state legislative leaders where he proposed $2.1 billion in cuts on top of $600 million that's already been cut from the budget. Strickland said the federal stimulus is needed to help bridge the gap from the current recession to when there's a rebound. Even with the money, states will have to make deep cuts, he said. "We are not, any of us, talking about federal money to expand spending, expand programs, to do new things," Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said. A forecast from Global Insight shows that the economy hasn't hit bottom yet. National economic growth is now expected to drop 1.8 percent this year, rather than increase 1 percent. The U.S. labor market is expected to lose 3.7 million jobs during the downturn, with unemployment reaching 8.7 percent in the first half of 2010, it said. That forecast assumes there will be a $550 billion federal stimulus package, roughly half of what the governors requested.

I'll make sure my kids come knockin...at least on someone's door. They are 6 and 4, and they are already learning about work and money.

Wow. That is a great story. I am glad those people searched and found the wreckage. Everytime I get down on American people, one of these stories surfaces to reassure me.

When I was a kid, if we wanted money we cut grass, raked leaves, etc. It was so common to see kids dragging a lawnmower behind their bikes via a rope to their customers. In the 4 years or so that I have lived here, I think I have had 1 kid come to my door and ask to cut the grass. Much less seen any dragging mowers around. However, my neighbor that lives behind me owns his own landscaping company. He is the "workinest" fool known to man. His kids are the same way, however they don't cut grass. During the winter, he will take care of all of the senior citizens snow removal (free of charge) but his kids will get out and go door to door with a snow blower and shovel. There are 3 of them (his other 4 are either too young yet or grown and gone ) ranging in age from 13 to 7. They charge 10 bucks, but I usually give them $20. I put them on the hook a couple of times last year, and it was done well before I had to leave to go to work at 6:15 in the morning. One morning, I heard them out front at 4:15 removing a little snow and putting down salt. Great kids. Everyone in the 'hood knows them. By the way Lewis, that is very admirable of you. Anyone still see this with kids in their areas??? Please tell me there is still hope for these young-uns of our future.

I don't think companies like Cabelas or Bass Pro will go under any time soon. They did have a 10% reduction in their workforce back in Oct due to strategic moves, but according to their website most of that came from not filling positions they were currently hiring for. Check out their website and click on "about us" and then "investor relations." It has links to their SEC reports also. I could see some of the "high end" or "big ticket" stuff they sell not moving as it would have in the past, but you can also pretty much guarantee that those markets are geared towards the people who aren't hurting by current economic conditions. Those people who could afford it, but barely, are the ones that won't be showing up to buy those items solely. Cabelas and Bass Pro are like Wal Mart. You go in to get one thing, and end up walking out with 20. I have yet to go into either store and it not be packed. As far as the "Unable to restock" tag on the TC, there is no telling. It may not have sold as well as predicted, and is being replaced with a different model. Another good way to tell is just by simply looking up their stock symbols. Which are stable right now. Just to throw in my two cents on the issue also when it comes to a political standpoint, if we don't want to see these types of businesses go under, it's all the more reason to keep the anti-gunners and animal rights activists at bay. With our current administration, it will be tougher than before, but not out of reach.

Um...not well said. I can barely understand it. They got what they wanted from facts and twisted it? Explain... Yes, Bush Sr. and Clinton had Saddam "bottled up." That was solely for the purpose of keeping Iraq from invading another country. Ask the Kurds if Saddam had WMD's. Bottling him up does not control what Saddam does inside his own country. Again, I don't feel the need to repeat myself over and over about the Saudi Nationals that were involved in 9/11. It is obvious that there is no understanding from either of you what the Global War on Terror is about. It isn't about toppling governments unless those governments approve terrorism as method of dealing with the world or their own people, and allow their soil to be used as a training ground or a place to carry these acts out. If this is the case, then yes, world powers should engage that government and bomb it into oblivion if need be. As far as the other thread, I will not give Obama a chance. I'll be on the defensive, and as I have said so many times ad nauseum, it's not just Obama, it's everyone else in the party too. So slap your Bush Lied/War is not the Answer stickers on your cars and carry on with whatever undocumented "conspiracy theory" you wish. One thing I like about War is not the Answer stickers is that those that have them on their cars, usually have no other answer. I am active duty military. I believe in what we are doing and not through indoctrination. I have seen progress. It's the right thing because we are American's, and we will not be ruled by fear. Nor should any other country. Maybe if you school yourselves up a bit on the THREAT that is in this world, you might have a different way of thinking. I'll make it easy for you..Here are some links... http://www.fbi.gov/congress/congress07/mueller011107.htm http://www.nps.edu/Library/Research/SubjectGuides/SpecialTopics/TerroristProfile/TerroristGroupProfiles.html http://www.state.gov/s/ct/rls/fs/37191.htm
