  1. I shot this deer Sunday morning (11/14/10), he was the 4th buck I saw that morning and was actually traveling with another nice 8 pt (I thought that was strange for this time of year). I had passed on a nice 8 about 10 min prior and glad that I did. I have been told that there is a bigger 10 pt in the area but I couldn't pass this deer up, you never know what is going to happen.
  2. I have a Remington Model 700 BDL in a 7mm Rem Mag, it's a synthetic stock with stainless barrel with a muzzle break. I have owned the gun for about 10 years and I love it. I owned a 22-250 in an ADL and did not like it nearly as much. BDL rifles have at minimum a hinged floor plate, mine actually has a clip that drops out the bottom (a very nice feature). My rifle is very accurate and has hardly any recoil due to the muzzle break. If you are going to shoot a magnum load I highly recommend the muzzle break, people think I'm joking until they shoot my gun but it is like shooting a 20 ga (no kidding). I would go for the BDL.
  3. Are there any mountain bikers out there? I will be heading to Wellston, MI for the Lumberjack 100 in June, this is a 100 mile mountain bike race. I was wondering if anyone out there rides also. Is there anyone from that area? If so do you recommend a place to stay? I have a list of cabins and motels and I am checking rates right now.
  4. HOLY BUCKETS, those are some awesome deer!!!
  5. Congrats, I love how you got the woods in the background.
  6. Has anyone out there had problems getting a good pattern from Powerbelt Bullets. I shoot tight patterns with my rifles but I can't get a pattern with my muzzleloader. I am shooting areo tip powerbelts (205 gr). I am thinking of trying a different bullet, any suggestions?
  7. I live in Chillicothe and hunt north of Wheeling.
  8. I shot this deer late Tuesday evening around 5:00 and had to make a quick shot on him as he was walking fast and I could not get him to stop. I made a marginal hit on him and he ran and jumped a fence about 50 yds away. I didn't want to get down too quickly but with light fading fast I decided to get down after 5 minutes to try and find some blood. I found where he crossed the fence and had good blood. I followed it for about 15 yards and was only finding small drops of blood in the grass. My buddy and I looked for a short time but decided with a marginal hit and not a lot of blood we would come back in the daylight and this would also give the deer a chance to bed up if he wasn't down. I beat myself up all night because of the poor shot placement but I knew we made the right decision to back out. We went back the next morning and still couldn't find blood around the last sighting. We spread out and found blood about 10 yds from the last spot and followed a trail for about 15 yards and then my buddy saw him lying in some tall grass dead. He was facing back the direction that we had come from and his legs were under him like he had laid down, not fallen down. He was only 40 yds from where we were the night before and really believe that he was still alive at least part of the time we were looking for him the night before if not the whole time. He is not my biggest deer but he was too good to pass up.
  9. Looks like that deer might have some extra inches on his rack.
  10. I think bowhunter 101 is right, I would rewash them if it were me.
  11. Good job, I don't know why people want to take the sport out of hunting. It is a lazy world out there.
  12. I have not used them myself yet but my uncle loads his own ammo but decided to give these a try and said that they are awesome. The best factory load out there.
