Does anyone have experience with Cabelas Inferno 2000 Pac Boot? I'm hunting in Saskatchewan and temps can dip down quite low as most of you probably know. I'm looking for a very warm boot to wear during the rifle season for deer (Nov 17 opener). They are affordable...just wondering what they are like comfort/durability/warmth wise.

I'm shooting a 30-06 Savage 116FCS. I've got a 3x9x40 Bushnell Legend mounted on it. Bought it new last year and have taken 1 big bodied Saskatchewan whitetail with it. I'm hoping to take a muley and a whitetail this fall. By the way my bullet of choice this year is going to be a 150 grain Hornady Interbond. Very accurate round from my gun.

I don't have a lot of experience with the model you mentioned but I have a fair bit of experience with a Savage 116FCSS. I love this gun! I have the Accutrigger adjusted down to around 3-4 pounds and it feels nice and crisp. This gun can flat out shoot too! Took my first ever whitetail with it this past fall. The Savage guns are highly under-rated IMO.

I really wish I could give you a model number...but there is nothing clearly marked on the gun. It has the manufacturer on it and .22 long rifle stamped on the side along with the serial number. I haven't been able to find the model anywhere. I have emailed Anschutz but haven't had much luck yet.

I have an old Anschutz single shot .22 that is missing the extractor. The extractor is a "u" shaped piece of metal (like a cut off washer) that is attached to a rail that slides back and forth in a groove in the breach. I am new to the rifle world and deer hunting in general. I am very curious to try some Hornady SST or Interbond or the Nosler Accubond for my 2008 deer round. I have read good reviews about the accuracy but I'm concerned with bloodshot meat. Does anyone have experience with these rounds and if so how was the wound and the meat (ie was there a lot of bloodshot meat)? I am trying to find a round that my gun really likes and the prices on the bullets I mentioned aren't too bad so I'd like to give them a try. Seems like there are a lot of different types of tipped rounds out there these days and I have no experience with any of them. Thanks for any input!! I should add that I will be shooting them out of a 30-06 Savage 116FCSS. I just bought it last fall and love it!!!

This was my first year taking a deer and I thought that being my wife won't allow a full mount that I'd have to try mounting the horns on a plaque. It turned out alright...especially being that I have no clue what I'm really doing!! I'm going to get a small brass plate below the horns indicating the date and location of the shot.

I have a buddy who uses the Core-Lokt rounds from Remington and he likes them. The thing is up here in Canada they are close to $28 a box. I can get the SST's for $24 and the Interbonds for $28 so I thought I'd look into them. I have read good reviews about the Hornady factory ammo and was just wondering if anyone has had success with them. I was looking at the Cabela's and found they have Core-Lokts for $15...I wish we had it that good up here (as far as animals go it's great...too bad the bullets weren't as cheap as our southern hunting buddy's)!!!

Now that my deer season is over for another year it's time to start planning for next year. I used Federal Fusion this year (due to suggestion by clerk at store and this being my first real crack at whitetail hunting) and it worked alright as I dropped my deer but I was expecting a bit bigger exit wound. I shot my deer at 125 yards and the exit was pretty much the same size as the entry...good thing I hit the heart and it dropped about 15 feet from where I hit it. Due to high prices on ammo up here in Canada I am thinking about trying the Hornady line of ammo as they seem to be priced right between the lower end ammo and the premium stuff. I like the looks of the SST (super shock tip) and the Interbond. Does anyone have experience with them and if so how did they perform? I'll be shooting a 30-06 Savage.

This year is the second year I have ever gone after whitetail deer. About 10 years ago I go skunked and it's taken this long to finally get after them again. It was a tough slog through a lot of deep snow but the work finally paid off. I saw my buck with two does at about 275 yards. He allowed me to take a couple cracks at him before I finally connected. Unfortunately it hit one of his front legs and the chase was on. We tracked him for about a mile or so before I jumped in a truck while my buddy stayed on the track. I was taken around to the end of a long brush line and was told to wait there. Well with 10 minutes of legal shooting time left he walked out of the brush line and was heading to the next group of trees when I let loose with my 30-06 Savage from about 125 yards and hit him in the heart. He walked about 15 feet and dropped.I was so happy when I got to him and saw how nice his rack really was. He wasn't a true Saskatchewan monster but his body was pretty decent and he had some nice horns on him. This was the first deer I have ever taken and now I'm hooked. I can't wait until '08 now.By the way...I was shooting 165 grain Federal Fusion and they performed really nicely. Great entry and exit...no wasted meat at all!!!

Good to hear SERM is finally adding to their numbers. It almost makes me sick to imagine how much poaching is going on here in SK due to the limitted number of CO's we have here. I didn't really think we had that big of a poaching problem here in SK until I found a number of gut piles in the bushes on a golf course in southern SK. After telling a few guys about my findings I started to hear more and more stories of poachers in SK and had no idea that we had such low numbers of CO's working the province.

I just bought a MTM Predator shooting rest for sighting in my new rifle. I've never sighted in a rifle before so I'm looking for some suggestions that might help me get on target. I know about bore sighting and starting close to the target for first shot so I get an idea if I'm on target. I also know about not letting the barrel get too hot while shooting. I guess what I'm looking at is any suggestions on how to shoot with the rest. Do I hold the front stock at all? I know one post I read the poster said he holds his hand on top of the barrel just behind the front rest...is this correct? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I made my decision and purchased my gun. I bought a Savage 116FCSS (stainless steel/synthetic stock/detachable mag/AccuTrigger) in 30-06. I grabbed a Bushnell Legend 3x9x40 scope to put on it. The entire package cost a bit more than the "package" deals that Savage and Remington were offering but I'm really happy with the way it looks/feels. Now I gotta get out and sight that badboy in so I can drop a whitetail. Thanks for all your input guys! Good luck and have a safe hunt!

Please don't tell me about the great prices on the 700's...that 30-06 is pretty much exactly what I need and a great price to boot. Our Walmarts really need to get on the ball and start selling firearms!!!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm gonna take a look at the Savages this week and ya the more I read about the 710/770 the more I'm shying away from it. Who knows...maybe I can find a decent rifle without a scope and then next year step up for some good glass and have a great rifle. Thanks again guys...I've really been enjoying this site! Thanks for all your help guys. The unfortunate thing is the gun shops in the city I live in (in Canada) seem to be very high priced. I've been looking online trying to find some quality used guns in Canada but the prices all seem close to new! I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open and hopefully I can bump into something good. The problem being budget for the most part. I have been cleared for $500 and that's all so it might take me a bit to find the deal. I'm not sure how difficult it is to purchase a gun across the border.

I'm a newbie to the world of rifles and deer hunting. I've hunted birds for years and now I want to step it up a bit and try my hand at deer first then possibly migrate to larger game. Here's my dilema... I don't have a big budget when it comes to spending on a rifle (thanks to my wife Here are the two that I'm looking at and I'd love to hear some feedback from everyone who's tried them or I'm open to suggestions on other "entry level" rifles. I'm considering a Remington 770 (.308) or a Savage 111FCXP3 (30-06). Both come as a package which includes a scope. Please help a newbie out here fellas.

I have the same problem. A buddy of mine and I just bought brand new 870's and went out to fire off a few rounds. We both shot off a single round and went to rack in a new round. We found both of our breaches were locked and we had to use the release to open, eject the spent round and load new round. Mine did this a few times and his seems to do this a fair bit. Does anyone know what's going on here? I've sent a message to Remington but haven't heard back.
