A friend of mine swears by the black cloud ammunition on geese and ducks as well. We are probobly gunna give it a shot this season I would imagine, also as far as the chokes go, the group I hunt with shoots both patternmaster and kicks high flyer. From the looks of the dead ducks every season, I dont think you can go wrong with either one of them..

Any buck/doe killed in front of my dogs.. I own three of the best looking hounds Ive ever layed eyes on and they know how do their job.. As long as they do what they do best, Im completley happy, whether I killed a deer or not.. PS:however if I had to pick a "dream buck" it would have to be a huge nasty looking non-typical, with a ton of mass and junk coming off everywhere.. IDK just something neat about them big non-typicals I think..

Our bowseason last the whole month of september just about and you cant bowhunt during ML season here so after bowseason goes out I pick up the smokepole. I do pick up the bow on occasion during rifle season but most of the time during gun season I am working on my first passion, hunting with dogs and it is not only illegal but unethical to attempt a bowhunt with dogs.. So usually after the bowseason goes out I will be either toting my cva or one of my remingtons..

Mckenzie Shotblocker4me.. Right now its the mckenzie shotblocker but mine is the travelpro model (only one my pro shop had in stock) and Im not real impressed with it to be honest. The arrows bury extremely deep after just two weeks of shooting.. On occasion they will go in and be touching the fletchings. Will probobly be the last shotblocker I buy, it does block the shots but not very well.

I agree with this for the most part but also you may wanna check the fields to the southwest and north.. Like was said they may not be on your property but there are bound to be trails going to and from them.. Hope this helps and good hunting.. PS:also I agree with the acorn thing. Deer love acorns and whereever the most acorns are in early season the deer will be there as well..

Good shooting, I have been practicing some but need to do more before September the 12th that is for sure..

I will be in the market for a new bow next year (maybe sooner but not trying to count my chickens before they hatch) and just wanted to get some ideas on what to buy next.. I without a dought will be buying a bow that comes with the lifetime warranty and it will more than likely be a mathews because I have owned and shot mathews bows in the past and never had a problem with them and loved the way they shot.. I currently shoot a used martin that I got used for a good deal. Money got tight and my mathews had to go a couple of years back and ended up with the martin to make a long story short.. However I have always shot solid limb, single cam bows and was looking for a change with my next bow.. Wanted to get a dual cam bow with split limbs just for something different I guess but like I said my biggest thing is the lifetime warrenty. That turned me on to the Mathews Monster. What are your opinions of the monster, Im hoping somebody here has shot it before or maybe even hunted with it. The reviews and specs I read on mathews website really got me excited about this bow and I cant wait to get to the pro shop and check it out for myself.. I just couldnt get over it when I read on one review that they acheived a blistering 362fps with the monster and a lighter arrow.. Just any information you could give on this monster would be helpful. Thanks alot for your info and opinions..

I also shoot a Remington 700 in 30-06. I love it, plenty of knock down for anything in north america and a wide variety of bullets to choose from. I mostly hunt deer and black bears with mine and the occasional coyote will also fall victim to it. However if you dont intend to hunt bear or any big game larger than deer I would probobly suggest the 270 just because it is an awsome deer round and Im sure will do a number on the biggest of hawgs. If I didnt hunt bear in my area I would most likely be shooting a 270 instead of a 30-06. I just prefer the extra knock down of the 180grain pill I shoot from my 30-06. My suggestion is the 270 if you dont intend to hunt anything larger than deer. The 270 is an awsome round as far as that goes and will knock any coyote, bobcat, or fox, in the dirt without a problem. As far as make and model, you cant go wrong with the Remington 700. Great guns, mine is old as the hills and still shooting just as good as if it had just came out of the box if not better due to practice and more practice because it is a comfortable gun to shoot.. Just my suggestion from what I have shot before.. I have owned and used both and am sure you will be completely satisfied with either one of those two calibers.. Good luck with your choice and good hunting..

I am probobly the farthest thing from a scent freak I guess but I do try to cover the basics. I spray down my boots and clothing with scent killer or dead down wind before heading to the stand and I try to smoke as little as possible while in the stand which can be difficult when nothing is happening.. Also I prefer to wear rubber knee boots, dont know if that matters or not but have heard that it does and figure it cant hurt anything (also they get sprayed down in scent killer or dead down wind)..

Top Red from a tree stand. Far as the buddy goes, better luck next time..

Gunna have to pass with 7 days in Iowa ahead. Its definitley a big buck in my book but without knowing for sure if he is legal and still having seven days left to hunt Im gunna have to take a pass on this buck..
-
Playing by the landowners rules Im going to have to pass on this deer unfortunatley. The buck is a definite trophy in my book but I wouldnt want to take a chance and loose my hunting priveleges by no means so I guess Im gunna have to pass this deer up..:bummed: PS:by the way Im definitley not the best at field judging deer and my uncertainty would be the reason for letting this deer walk..

dont mean to post a million questions at one time or nothing (posted the crimson talon xt question wallago) but was wondering what arrow everybody shoots.. I have shot GoldTip XT Hunters since I started messing with archery and still stand by them today.. My local pro shop carries them for 89dollars a dozen so they are not quite as hard on the ol wallet as some of the others neither.. J/W.. Also wanted to add a question to this post as well.. Was gunna try blazer vanes with the last bunch I bought but he didnt have any ready so I ended up getting duravanes again.. What are the pros and cons to blazers over duravanes if there are any?

2nd red from the top, withought a dought, dead deer..
-
Probobly would have to go with the second from the top, just to be on the safe side..
-
Thanks for the info, any more opinions are welcome but I think just that spooked me away from the talons.. Never had a problem with the muzzy and I guess if it aint broke dont fix it huh? Here is the link for the Crimson Talon XTs.. http://www.spintite.com/crimsontalon.html
-
Anybody shooting the crimson talon xts? Have been seeing them advertised and was thinking about trying them this year. Was gunna try the Rage 2 but have been spooked away from them because of the horror stories of the blades opening in the quiver and in flight.. Have always shot Muzzy 100grain 3 or 4blades depending on the mood Im in that hunting season but thought about giving the talons a try.. Anybody got any experience with them or should I just stick with the muzzys?..
-
During crunch time I am gunna have to go with the second red from the bottom. I know this is not the best shot by far with the bow but I am extremley confident with my martin at 70lbs out to 50yrds and know I could put the arrow where it needed to be. With the right conditions I would be completely confident with this shot if I had no other option..

Deer Hunting with dogs is a tradition in many parts of the south.... Folks have been hunting with dogs since before most of us where born.... Alot of folks think that dog hunting is the lazy deer hunters way and if somebody thinks that is the case, just go with me or anybody that dog hunts the right way for a day and I guarantee your opinion will be changed.... It takes ALOT of work to maintain a good pack of hounds during the off-season as well as during hunting-season.... It cost alot of money but we do it because we enjoy it and it is worth all the work that goes with keeping those hounds.... There is absolutley no other rush like hearing some hounds burning the hair off a deer on a frosty december morning and then all of a sudden the deer turns and they are heading towards you.... I guarantee you wont find a better adrenaline rush anywhere in the hunting world.... Im not bashing anybody's way of hunting by any means but before anybody says its not right or its the lazy way to hunt or anything wrong against it, I offer them to try it just one time before they make up their mind.... Our gun-season last from October-January here in NC and anybody wanting to give it a shot to see what its really all about is welcome to come with me and Im sure ncwhiteoak feels the same way as I do.... Please note that Im not saying anybody has bashed dog hunting on this forum, but I know how these topics usually end up on most forums, I figured Id say my part before it came to that....-timrussell

No need to apologize, it aint no big deal, Southside Hunting Club is a dog hunting club as well and they dont mind if our dogs cross over on occasion.... What I meant about my dog being on our property was that when this occured this particular had returned to our property and I was in the process of catching him up.... Sorry to hear yall are having problems with doggers in your area.... There are always a few bad doggers that give us all a bad name.... -

No offense but the dog was on our property, the guy simply saw him, stopped and picked him up.... On top of that probobly 95% of the hunters in this area hunt with dogs so that guy that tried to steal my hound has no excuse whatsoever.... -
Looking to trade tommrow Am i crazy

I agree, the benelli is a good gun, and IMO is much better suited to the duck blind than an O/U.... -
I want a Pro Hunter,,Just dont know??
nastynissan4487 replied to 4Blade's topic in Rifles & Accessories
I would most likely go with the 30-06.... I shot a Remington 700 in 30-06 for several years before I got my 270 (also a Rem 700).... I dont do much bear hunting with my long range rifles, usually the marlin 30-30 for bears around here, but if I had to pick between the calibers you listed Id go with the 30-06, good gun for anything you wanna hunt, with a plenty of knock down power, like was said before the 270 would do it but if I was buying it for bear, id get the 30-06.... -
Well I have in recent years been a slacker as far as scouting goes, been hunting the same old spots and up until this season I was in a hunting club so I wasnt to worried about finding deer but I found out the hard way this season that unless you are in a hunting club you have been hunting for a while like I was its hard to findem.... My scouting will start just as soon as this deer season goes out this year, got plenty of places to hunt now just gotta find out where the big boys are hiding at.... Good luck to ya....
