  1. I bought one last winter.I use it on my Remington Genesis 50 cal.I selected it over the Nikon Omega for 2 reasons. 1. I prefer the slams reticle.2. When I looked through both (inside a Cabela's store) I thought the slam had the crisper image. As I recall they ran about the same price due to a sale and the eye relief is about the same. I really like the adjustments on the slam. It made zeroing fast and easy.

  3. Agreed. Many of the state DNR's have been prime examples (Illinois included). Well since I've blown my karma I may as well up the ante to a 200 inch typical this year.:flex:
  4. Hope your disappointed comment was not referring to this prediction post? It's just for fun and something to do prior to the start of the season. I doubt I'll actually harvest a 150 inch deer..... (more like 180).
  5. In IL you have to pull 40 pounds to deer hunt. Sounds like a good number to start her on. Get a bow that starts at 40 and goes up to 50 or more.

    Big Bucks

I think that second deer has seen more combat than GI JOE! Talk about some battle scars!
  7. Not sure what it is, but it's not a mountain lion.
  8. I shot in 1993 with a long bow. Na, it's a hoax from Outdoorlife. The antlers were computer generated for the picture. I tried to cut the guys face out and place mine in instead, but I don't have good photo editing software.
  9. Here I'm worried about shooting my ML through the "shoot-through" mesh of a ground blind! :hammer2:
  10. How many and what type of deer do you predict you will harvest with the bow this season? I'll go with 2 does and 1 buck. A 10 point that grosses 150 inches.
  11. I couldn't imagine hunting with just my shotgun. IL has a 2 weekend firearm season in November and a third for the smokepole in December. That wouldn't come close to giving me my fill. October bowhunting can't get here soon enough for me. I'm running a 100 degree fever now and each week it goes up a degree. Frank, you still planning to drop in during the first shotgun season for a visit? I mapped it and it looks like it's about 35 miles from Vienna. You'd take route 146 West to Ware IL. From there take route 3 North to Wolf Lake. Our deer camp is just minutes from Wolf Lake. I'll be there Thursday evening through Sunday about noon. We'd love to have you if you have the time. Usually it's just me, my dad, my brother, and my cousin.
  12. I'm not really sure. I shoot 3-4 arrow rounds from 10-30 yards and I'd say after 7 or 8 rounds (20-30 shots ) I stop for the day. I've been shooting a bow for a long time and I find shooting a 1/2 hour four times a week more effective than spending 3 hours shooting one day.
  13. Welcome Tony! Glad to have you aboard!:toot:
  14. Yea I know the song. Love it! At first I thought you were making fun of me.:clown:
  15. I'm not much of a mechanical fan save one. The Gator XP by Rocky Mountain which is what I use. I'm not much for the rubber bands, but like the idea of slip mechanics. I've lost 2 does as I recall. The first was a long time ago and I don't remember what I was using at the time. The second was 2 or 3 seasons ago. I hit a doe about 2 inches high high and an inch back at 30 yards with a 3 blade 100 gr. muzzy. I gave it overnight and looked for her the following day. I looked all day and never found her. I could see the arrow sticking out of her as she ran off, it was below the spine, but didn't get good penetration. That was it for the muzzy's. Last year I hit a doe at 15 yards with a Gator XP. The shot was foward and went through the shoulder and exited the bottom of the front part of the rib cage. I've also shot through spines with them on straight down shots. All I use now.
  16. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse! Glad the thing didn't hit you some where more critical. I know what you mean about being bored when you're down and out. Hope your foot is better soon.
  17. At the beginning of the video it looks like there is some type of large cat on the left side of the screen. Anyone know what it is?

    Where Were You?

I was teaching Bill Jordan how to shoot a bow. Actually I was about 6 months from being in the 9 month cooker.

    Greeny here

If I was strictly moving to an area to hunt Alaska would win hands down! The variety of big game animals one can hunt and the areas to hunt them are second to none in my opinion. In the lower 50 states I'd select Idaho. In IL. there is no limit to the number of whitetail does that can be harvested. Permits are 15 dollars for residents. The season is about 3 months long. Finding a good place to hunt is the challenge.
  20. Friend of mine has one and loves it. I've seen pictures of it going through big mud holes without a problem.
  21. At times I too would like to see realistic hunting shows. However, I think the majority of video buyers are people that want to see the Monsterbucks they dream about. That's what sells so that's what we get. The advertisements are all part of the game. For real product reviews I ask my RT brothers here. As far as Blanton, I think a lot of him and would love to meet him some day. I have no doubt he enjoys the wonders of nature just like we do and gets the whole picture of hunting, not just killing a Monsterbuck.
  22. So there is a maximum size instead of a minimum? Shows how much I know about ocean fishing. Great catch!
