  1. Well, I must say today's pine wood derby went much better for my son than mine did some 30 years ago. We spent a lot of time togther working on his car and prior to the race I explained to him the importance of having fun together regardless of who won. Boy it sure was nice to see him pull out a second place finish though. I'll never forget what he said to me after walking up to get his trophy and then walking back to me and his mom. As he held his trophy he looked up at me with a big smile and unprovoked said, "Dad, thanks for helping me work on my car." Today life is good.
  2. I'm a St. Louis metro IL. resident and I don't know anyone that liked or voted for him. I haven't actually checked the poll figures, but everyone I know in this area has wished him gone for a long time. I hope things get better but unfortunately the majority of issues for the entire state of IL are decided by the people of Chicago. Nothing against my RT brothers from Chicago, but big city Chicago thinking can be a lot different than the other areas of the state. Until the state divides into N. Illinois and S. Ilinois I'm hesitant to get too excited by the ousting of Rod (throw-him-in-a-ditch). The Dancing Queen made the right move. Need a new neighbor JJ?

Just how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?
  4. Too bad. Never had that happen. I'd be an expensive loss for me with three deer in there this year. We did lose power for about 6 hours last month so I put my Honda generator to good use.

    Michael Waddell

Hey Michael glad to hear you're going to be around more. Since you handled the scepticism with such bone collecting class and because you asked so nice I'll lay down some green and give a Road Trips video a whirl. (The next MB is a given). Don't get cable or dish so until Bone collector is on video I'll have to wait. Now if you can get David, T-Bone, and the Fox to drop in once in a while we'll start having some real fun! BTW... Shoot me a PM and I'll take you hunting some time.
  6. These types of stories pop up from time to time. I remember the mom that put her kids in the car and ran it into a lake and killed them. As I recall the motive was similar (save relationship with boyfriend). Did the murderer (can't call her a mom) have an extremely screwed up childhood or is she just flat out evil? I can't even begin to understand these things on any level:confused:.

    IL Deer Classic

Wow! Glad I posted this, I had the wrong dates! Thanks for the correction.I did have the dates mixed up for the two events. I hear the one in Bloomington is better, but Collinsville is only 15 minutes away so I go there. My kids love catching trout in the trout pool. I'm going to enter my buck and have B&C score it for me.No official measurers around here so this event helps. Maybe I'll see ya there MUDRUNNER.My picture and the deer I'm having scored: (say hi if you see me). >Frank

    Hijack thread...

Heard I was wrong (yea, first time) about Luke and the dancing queen. Hammers are messy. Use the FOCRE! Hey, if it works for Luke and tree rats...
  9. Anyone headed to the Deer Classic in Collinsville Il (near St. Louis MO.) on Feb. 20th-22nd?

Heard Luke was giving up the sauce and the dancing queen was giving up inappropriate humor. What this post needs....

  12. Nice buck there, More importantly, looks like you have a nice crew to share your hunting adventures with.
  13. Glad thinkgs are going well for you Michael. Hope it stays that way for ya. Tim A. seems to think a lot of you so you must be a decent fella. Glad you found a minute to drop in.
  14. Trying to keep a debate out of this one was futile. I'm fine with IL giving the ok for x-bows, as long as it is only legal during the firearm seasons. I'd even be ok with a x-bow season for a weekend or even a week. But treating them the same as a bow and allowing them during the generous archery season is a mistake in my opinion.

  16. This is news to me. Never knew that about Buckmasters (thanks for the tip). Now my wife gave a small donation to the fraternal order of the police. Then every few months they would call asking for money. We asked numerous times to have them take us off the call list and now (5 years later) they still call.

    Help me out?

All of us here would be happy to help out when you have a question. Gary is right though. A good Pro shop is a great place to start!
  18. Supposed to be sunny and 70 here in IL tomorrow.
  19. I saw that buck on opening day of the IL archery season and let him go waiting for a bigger one. Too bad he couldn't have been taken legally harvested by a hunter. He looks pretty old and may have lived a long life and died of natural causes? I also see a farm house close by. Where there is a house there is a road and that buck may have been hit by a car? Reagrdless I'm glad he was found and not plowed into the ground or ended up in some farmers tractor tire.
  20. I'd love to get all excited about hunting IL. turkey's like I do deer, but the turkey season is over so fast I just don't get that excited. The first season is only 5 days long. There are second and third season lotteries but I generally just do one season. My work schedule is always busy during that time of year so getting off more than a couple days is nearly impossible. Plus I have to drive 3 hours to my hunting location which makes single morning hunts sort of a pain. Looks like I'll be taking a 2-3 day trip to my usual turkey spot in S. Illinois this spring. I do love being in the turkey woods even if the hunting isn't that good.

    What could it be?

    Probably Bigfoot or Elvis one.
  22. My heart goes out to his family.
  23. Looks like he'll make a nice addition to your trophy room. Congratulations
  24. No doubt this will be a first class trip. Good luck to the hunters and to you Kathleen. Sure wish I was going with you all.
  25. Who has had the most interesting topic here in the forums? Looks like I'm pretty boreing with only one thread that hit the 1000 view mark. Back in Feb of 2008 I started a thread titled Deer meat and spoil time = 1356 views.
