  1. The stupid IL turkey season has arrived (5 whole days - this Monday -Friday). I got off work one day (Monday) and the weather man calls for thunderstorms. We'll see what happens.
  2. That's nothing. I can do it in half the time. Actually I like to get the radio going, propane heater on, a six pack and make an evening of it with my dad. I hate it when I have to rush through the butchering process.

    New Truck

LOL Yea, Ford didn't take the government bail out and I had great performance and reliablity out of my 2001 F-150. This decision was realted to the one I aksed you all to remember me in prayer. (Not to buy a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy, but other stuff). In spite of the snow I must say things are looking a bit better these past few days.

Thanks everybody. The SYNC feature with Satelite radio is pretty cool. I never had a smooth talking lady guide me to my destination and play any music or even song I want to through voice activation. They were features I didn't want (came with the hard to find 2010 model I wanted) but really like them now.
  6. Guess I should have figured Chevy since I see a lot of Realtree advertisements with the Chevy trucks. Well, good luck with the deal Tim - looking forward to seeing pictures.
  7. Good luck Tim, You buying a Ford? I decided on a 2010 F-150 due to my scepticism on the turbo charged V6 (picture in a thread below). Strange... one dealer was pushing the V6 ecoboost and the other was pushing the V8. Neither had the truck I wanted and had to do a search so it wasn't because they had it on the lot. Guarantee you - if you work the numbers and figure a lower monthly payment than you really want you'll get more for your trade. See my post below. What engine are you getting?

Hope the trip goes well! Early October can be tough hunting for big bucks in IL. Bet you see a ton of does and young bucks. If you get an opportunity at a big buck then that's worth a little extra in my opinion. If you miss it or get it, they did the work to get you on a big buck and deserve the same tip in my opinion. If you don't see a big buck at all then the tip would be lower. If you feel they worked hard: 50 bucks. If you see a shooter: 75.00. If you get an opportunity 100.00. If you get more than one opportunity then maybe even a little more.

    New Truck

Thanks to everyone in the vehicle room for your suggestions. This is my new 2010 F-150. It has the 5.4L V8 engine. Basically the same thing I had except 10 years newer, (193,000) less miles, and a crew cab instead of the supercab. Ten years ago I remember thinking (that back seat is pleanty big enough for car seats). Now my kids are 8 and 9 and they were very cramped. In addition the older supercab didn't have head rests in the back, the crew cab does. It also has side airbags. My first visit to a dealer resulted in a 4,300.00 trade in amount for my old truck (pictured to the right). Edmunds has my truck listed as being worth about 3,400.00 (trade in). My second trip to a different dealer resulted in a trade in of 5,500.00 (same amount for the new truck). My 3rd trip to the second dealer saw a trade in of 6,000.00. My fourth trip resulted in a trade in of 7,800.00 that sealed the deal and made me very happy. Amazing how much things can vary from one dealer to another. It will be nice hauling my camper and kids to the Smokies in June and then to idaho to hunt bear.

    God's guideance

Big decission tomorrow morning that has me stressed out to the point of being sick. I've been praying and putting it off as long as i can and tomorrow time is up. Remember me in prayer tonight.
  12. The specs are here for the 2011. The 2010 5.4L V8 is pretty close to the 5.0L - 2011 V8. 2011 Ford F-150 | View Full Engine Specifications | Ford.com

  14. OK, so the 2011 Ford F-150's have a V8 - 5.0 L option or an (Eccoboost) V6 - 3.5 liter (turbo) option. The numbers (horsepower and torque) favor the V6, but it's difficult for me to think a V6 would do better than a V8 over the long haul (after 5 years and 100,00 miles). All the tests indicate the V6 will out perform the V8, but none have actually went 5-10 years in the tests. Also wondering what repairs might run on a turbo engine? The gas millage for the V6 is only rated about 2mpg better than the V8. Folks, would you embrace the new technology and go with a V6 or stick with the proven V8? I use my current truck (5.4 Liter V8) to haul a trailer and gear (6,000 lbs) to Idaho and back once a year, as well as a few shorter trips a year.

    Advice PLEASE.

There was a girl in highschool I was extremely interested in, but was so shy I never spoke to her. Looking back I'm sure she would have told everyone I had no interest in her whatsoever. If you go up to the guy and talk about something he'd be interested in (perhaps hunting) that will open the door for a shy guy to make a move. If not then just say, look I'm interested in you and thought if you wanted we could do something sometime. (Get dad's approval first of course!) Good luck and happy hunting

  18. When my kids were about 3 years old I'd set up a ground blind in the living room. I'd put a deer hunting video on and when the deer would come my kids would shoot the TV with a nerf gun. As they got older I'd take them squirrell hunting with me. They'd be sitting in a chair with a gameboy while I looked and waited. After shooting one I'd have my kids find it. Made them feel like they were doing something. The next year I'd let them bring a low powered BB gun out to the woods and take a shot, after the miss I'd shoot the squirrell (to finish it off). Of course the BB gun never hit the squirrell and if it did wouldn't hurt it. Then I had them practice with a muzzeloader (60 grains) and when they could shoot well - deer hunting from a ground blind.
  19. Years ago I wanted to buy a rifle that was enough for all North American big game. The Remmington 300 Ultra Magnum does just that. It comes in three power loads from deer (power level 1) to elk (power level 2) and brown bear/moose (power level 3). I've only hunted black bear with it so far. Power level 2 went through both shoulders of a 150lb bear as well as a 200 lb bear.
  20. Did you all know the word tomorrow has a new definition? It used to be one day later than the current day. The new definition is... At some point later in time if at all.

    its mine, all mine now

Yup, look forward to many more years of use. I've got 191,000 miles on my F150 (2001) and have loved not having a payment since 2005. Unfortunately I got the extended cab and not the crew cab. Now my kids are 9 and 10 years old and that little back seat isn't doing it any more.
