  1. Yup, thanks to those who have ran the contests in the past. I didn't know about all the negativity, really a shame. I was opting out this year too, but only because I'll only get one day to hunt this year (if that) due to my work schedule. Illinois has the most screwed up turkey seasons in the country. First season (lottery) Monday - Friday (5 -days sun-up till lunch time = 15.00 if drawn). Second season (lottery) Saturday - Wednesday = another 15.00 if lucky enought to get a tag. There are additional 5 day seasons all for another 15.00. Why in the heck they don't make each season include a weekend is beyond me.

    What is it?

Aliens looking for the jewfish (grouper) making a miscalculation regarding where to cast. http://www.fishing-boating.com/articles/gamefish/jewfish.htm
  3. I visually scored a thinner racked 10 point buck a lot like this in the low 130's. After I measured the gross score was 145. I laughed and figured my math was wrong. Added again and still got 145. I love mass (my favorite feature on a buck) but as far as scoring the other characteristics are what gets the numbers up. On closer inspection his main beams do look shorter than I originally thought. I'll go with 143 gross score.
  4. Forecast has changed from 12 inches to 7 tonight. Guess the wind is supposed to be the real threat now. Gusts up to 40mph may cause some power lines to fall. We'll see???
  5. I'm 1 hour from St. Louis. Getting hammered right now! Worst ice storm I can remember. Going to buy a space heater now in case power goes out when the 12 inches of snow hits in a couple hours.
  6. You found more sheds in one day than I have in my entire life!
  7. Thanks a lot Jeff. Now I just have to find a few G to hunt those majestic creatures!
  8. Really? I'm thinking this bow is going to be a big flop in the sales department! I think every other manufacturer is going to watch closely and compare how many pro-staffers (that get this bow free) use it vs. the number of paying hunters that use it. Seriously can this bow really be more than 1,000.00 better than Matthews next best bow? This bow might be really good, but it's a Matthews mistake given our current economy. A mistake Matthews will soon discover. I'll bet their 2012 models are all way under 2G.
  9. I've discussed this with friends of mine that have the same thing happen. I personally believe that these smart mature bucks are not where my friends cameras are during the summer/fall because my friends are in the woods checking frequently, scouting, or putting up stands. The deer get bumped out (and stay out). They find those places where no one hunts and stay there until the food is gone in that area forcing them to move to other locations they avoided in the summer/fall due to human scent and presence. Generally this occurs in January. I shot the biggest and oldest whitetail I've ever seen on January 17th as he was following does into a field at dark. It was the first time that deer had been seen. He was run down from the rut and weighed only 175 lbs. I don't think he was interested in love, but following the does to the food.
  10. Not sure about all this knife lingo, I just know Italy is lucky to get one of your fine blades Ross. Congratulations to Italy if you send them one. Wish my name was Italy.
  11. You Ohio guys are crazy! Keep it up though, it's fun to watch. I'd pay the 800 for 4 seats to watch the superbowl (200 per seat). I'd only do it once though. It just depends on what you're into. Some people pay more than 800.00/day to hunt.
  12. I've never experienced an actual fire at a hospital, but we sure drill a lot. Glad to hear it was handled quickly and resolved without major issue. So has the glimmer of being a nurse lost its luster any since graduation?
  13. A combo hunt for my dad in Kansas: Pheasant hunting in the morning after coffee and breakfast. Dropped off at a wheat field by 9am with 4 great bird dogs. By 11am he would have his 4 birds as well as mine. Then a ride back to the lodge for lunch. Next a quiet ride out to the extra large and comfortable ladder tree stand at 1pm for a whitetail gun hunt. I'd be in the higher stand filming. After he harvested a 165 inch (200lb+) 12 point buck we'd make a call and get a ride back to the lodge for a cold beer. He's getting older so the ideal hunt would be an easy one with a lot of action.
  14. Not exactly since the lottory and gambling overlap. My point was that all involve some degree of risk with the possibility of financial gain or loss. I work too hard for my money and prefer to avoid risk when possible and minimize it when I can't.
  15. Should have posted this sooner! This was a really tough decision for me since I really like both teems. Of all the teams in the playoffs this year these two were my favorite and the best in the league for sure. Those who disagree can argue, but they'll be wrong. LOL I'll side with the Steelers unless the Packers get behind early, then I'll switch, I love rooting for the underdog!
  16. looks like at least 18 inches wide. G-3's are tall, but not real thick. I'd say he'll be just shy of the 150 mark (gross) and net just over 140.
  17. I don't play the lotto I don't gamble and I don't buy extended warranties
  18. Same here. All except for one farm/land I hunt I would have shot him.

    Am I going to die?

Froze my skinned whole bear from last June. Took it to the butcher, he thawed it and cut it into roasts and ground some. I re-froze it and later thawed and ate it over several months time. The taste was great and I'm still alive.

    It's time to say good-by.

I don't know you Andy, but I wish you the best. Sounds like everyone thinks a lot of you and would welcome you back if you decide to do so.

    or so I thought

Couple things I learned: buy an expensive dishwasher, the cheaper ones don"t work so well. Black stove tops are very hard to clean! Wouldn't get another one. Love the stainless look. If you paint the walls a lighter color I think it would be fine. I have stainless fridge, dishwasher, and range (with that dreaded black top). Medium oak stained cabinets. Our fridge is 5 years old now and works great - it is a GE side by side. Range is Frigidare - works fine. Dishwasher is a cheap frigidare that only works well if i buy the expensive cascade complete
  22. Thought about having that done to my bear skull, but it was like 100 bucks extra so opted out. Looks great though. XJ, what do you mean no FB for you? Got banned didn't you. LOL

    Pinewood Derby today!

That's a great idea, but I don't think they would allow your hubcap method today. I almost got disqualified for gluing the axels in place! I was told if we race at district I would have to remove the glue. If I remove the glue one wheel will fall off! LOL

    Pinewood Derby today!

Newarcher, I did a few of those things. I sanded the axels a little because there were burrs on them. I didn't square it (don't quite get what is required to do that). When I placed the wheels on the first time one wheel was way off the ground. I lowered the axel and had to glue it to keep it in place so all the wheels were touching at the same time. I then added the weights to make sure it was just under the max weight. Not sure how it got so fast because I'm sure some dads did all that stuff you mentioned. I really just lucked out. You are right, no way could a 7-10 year old cut that block of wood. He picked the design, I used the power tools. He drilled a couple holes and used the power sander once so he could say (I helped with the power tools). He painted and applied the polyurithane. I attached the wheels and glued them in place. Next year will be our last race as my son will be a Weebelos. Makes me sad thinking about it.

    Pinewood Derby today!

Wow! I can't believe we did so well this year. My sons car was the fastest of the 35 cars there! I honestly have no idea what we did but I'll take it all day long! It even beat the thin little waffer cars that look like heck, but run the fastest . It must have been the weights in the back of the car. Look hard the "thrusters" are painted lead fishing weights I bought at Wal-Mart. I was going for looks, but I believe they accidentally turned into secret speed weapons! Here is a picture of my two kids and their cars. Mackenzie was glad to have a "Crocodile car" this year and she got to enter the sibling race. Unfortunately her car didn't run very fast. Here is the competition: Here is my son receiving his trophy: Here is the "Batmobile" and the trophy All in all a great day at the races!
