  1. Really glad I have kept my son in the scouts. At times it's a pain selling popcorn and making all the meetings, but it really is an organization that builds character. Today we honored a fallen soldier from our home town (Kenny Corzine).

    Mixed bag

Stuff like that doesn't happen to normal people ya know. LOL Is that skull froma coues deer? Hey Ben I went on my first ever duck hunt last Sunday. Saw about 100 ducks, but only had one group come in to shooting range. I got my first duck (Mallard hen). It was a different kind of hunting, but a lot of fun.

    Best of 2010

Love the deer and turkey contests, and the guess the score/age posts. Live hunts are neat as well.
  4. If you get a chance go to a deer classic or convention near you do so. You will see a lot of mounts, some great, most good, and likely a few bad ones.
  5. Might want to check out a deer farm before they shed. http://www.sweetwaterdeer.com/
  6. Cabela's has that scope on sale for 149.00 with $20 off orders of 150 or more. Might want to read the reviews at: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Optics/Riflescopes%7C/pc/104792580/c/104752080/sc/104535180/Nikon-Pro-Staff-Riflescope/729045.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshooting-optics-riflescopes%2F_%2FN-1100246%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104535180%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%3BMMcat104792580%3Bcat104752080&WTz_l=SBC;MMcat104792580;cat104752080;cat104535180 I have the Nikon Buckmasters model on my ML and I'm happy with it. I do wish it had more eye relief. I prefer an eye relief around 5 inches, but that's just me. For 125 it's a good deal.

    Stocks

Never got into the market, or playing the lottery, or casino gambling. Figure it would take a lot of time for me to know what the heck was going on and by the time I was half way decent I would have lost what little I have. I'll just work and make money the old fashoned way.
  8. It's changed some, but would take to long to clean it up.
  9. I think it's "little foot" also known as catsquatch.
  10. Depends on the amount of THWACK your bow will put on a deer. My bow is older and has lost some energy. I crank it up to 70 pounds and still only have arrow speeds of 270 feet per second. Therefore I use the Steelforce phatheads and Magnus stingers. (Cut on contact tips)
  11. Around the St. Louis area taxidermy is WAY too high in my opinion. Hard to find "decent" work for under 500.00. I lucked into a guy about an hour north that does exceptional work for 350.00. I'll go with him for any deer I get and be happy as could be with the price. Turn around time is one year.

    Hang 'em!

Are turkey feet classier than deer feet? Wood http://www.bullshootersightingin.com/rifle-racks.html You could use antlers.
  13. Great deer! Sometimes pictures make a mount look a lot worse than it does in person. The mount does not look good from the pictures (sort of has that looney toon look to it). I know I have a near 500.00 mount that from certain angles looks terrible and others looks a lot better (see below) Terrible: Better: I asked the RT forum members and they let me have it straight. It was tough to hear, but I switched taxidermists. This is my latest mount and cost me only 350.00. (My favorite mount to date)

    Meat Grinders

I've been using the Cabela's 1hp grinder for 3 years now. I used to use a 100.00 grinder and spent a lot of time cleaning the blade and plate just grinding one deer. When I started bringing in 4-6 deer a season it had to go. The Cabela's 1hp grinder will grind at least 2 large deer without needing cleaned (that's the most I've done at one time). Honestly, it takes longer to clean than it does to grind. Not sure if the 1/2 or 3/4 hp models would do as well, but they do not have the reverse feature like the 1hp model does. If you plan on grinding more than one deer at a time I'd suggest going with the 1hp.
  15. XT man, I'm having difficulty focusing in on the tree due to all the bone on the wall! Yea, I really screwed up the top.
  16. Really some great stuff here everyone! HuntingPA, that video of your sons first buck is great! I've got another I'm going to post as a follow up to my previous one. As I wrote previously just harvesting a deer was a major acomplishment for me during the first 20 years I hunted. After my 6 year dry spell I connected on a small 8-pointer in 1998. Every year since then I have been fortunate enought to take at least one deer every year. All were does or small racked bucks (all scoring under 100 inches) until 2006 when I arrowed my first "MonsterBuck". I shot it right at dark so I decided to look for it the next morning. After 5 hours I could not find him. Was busy the next day, so the third day I went looking again - all day. After searching for another 5-6 hours I got totally turned around. I had given up searching and was just looking for a road, trail that would lead me to something that looked familiar. That's when I saw it, a familiar looking aluminum arrow with an attached giant 200lb+ buck. I had found the deer, but still had no idea where I was. After several more hours I finally figured out where I was and was able to recover my deer. It scored 161 and 3/8 inches and changed deer hunting for me as I had come to know it.
  17. That's wonderful news! You both are great parents which means that little guy will have a great family to grow up in. Congrats to your entire family! Catrina I hope that the morning sickness keeps it's distance from your home. Name ideas yet?
  18. I can see that buck being 4.5 years old, but dang you sure don't look old enough to have a wife in that picture! Wish i could pull off looking that young. Congrats on your monsterbuck
  19. Christmas is prime time for big bucks in Texas. The rest of us northerners tend to forget that at times. Awesome buck!
  20. That's a dandy management buck. Congratulations! All my harvest pictures I take myself. I wrap a small digital camera in a thick sock and put it in the bottom of my pack. I also have a small flexible camera mount that I used to use. It wraps around branches and makes life easier, but misplaced it last year. This year I just find a V in a tree or a fallen tree and set it up there. Set the auto timer to 10 seconds and after two or three tries I get a good one.
  21. Some great stories and pictures everyone! Really glad I posted this. Feel free to post more than one picture / story if you're so inclined.
  22. Hey guys, it's really just 3 cut skulls on top of each other. Luke, of all people I thought you would have figured that out.
  23. Been quiet here for a while. I'm out of buck tags so the contest is over for me. I still have the late antlerless only season this coming weekend and in two weeks. I still have one unfiled tag so I may try to harvest a doe, but at this point I don't really need any more meat, it would just be to get some more hunting in before the LONG LONG off season. It's been a pleasure being in the contest with all of you and for those still hunting (if anyone still is) best of luck.
