  1. Just returned from So. Illinois on Sunday. Saw several small bucks chasing but didn't see a mature deer since Thursday. I would definitely agree with the current "lock-down."
  2. What's the latest guys and gals? Are things heating up in your area? I would hope this cool weather would get things started...if it hasn't already. Please post your recent sightings!
  3. We're heading up to your neck of the woods on Nov. 6th - 13th. Hopefully we'll hit it just right!
  4. I think we're gonna shoot for the second week, the 8th through 12th.
  5. Planning another trip to the great state of Illinois this winter. Second time hunting on family property. The year before last we just missed the rut! Arrived about a week too early. This year, I've been doing my moon phase research and have noted that the full moon begins on October 23 with the new moon occurring on November 6. Will the 23 be the rutting moon? When would you plan to arrive? Any input greatly appreciated!
  6. This is devoted primarily to you "heartland" hunters. I'm curious to see your responses. If you could only hunt one week in November...which week would it be?
  7. What methods do you use when sighting in your rifle scope? I recently purchased a Led Sled. Hopefully, this will allow me to produce more consistent groups ensuring that my scope is adjusted properly. I have a few questions for you veterans... 1. Do you begin by sighting in "Dead On" at 25 yds.? 2. How many inches above bulls eye at 100 yds. have you found to be most consistent? 1.5", 2" ? 3. What power do you set your scope to when sighting in? How does this affect things?

  9. Not gonna make it this year...but at least I can dream. What's hunting been like recently for the Illinois crew? Things should be heating up real soon!
  10. Ha! I was expecting to get a few comments like this! My family is from Southern Illinois and trust me...it's killin' me knowing that I won't be in a stand there come November! We're expecting our first child (A little girl) any day now! No road trips this year!
  11. This is a new piece that we just acquired this year. Just curious...which areas would you hunt? Remember, this is Florida we're talkin' about! (Ha!)
  12. This is one of the best threads I've come across yet. I'm definitely going to give the "un-scented" soap a try. I was always under the impression that the store bought stuff contained "microbial" agents that prevented future odors from forming. Evidently, this is not the case. Does anyone know if regular baking soda is safe to use in today's High Efficiency washers? I wouldn't see why not...
  13. Thanks for the responses...unfortunately, "Hunting" has become a billion dollar industry. Many hunters shell out thousands of dollars each year on the newest items on the market thinking it will make them a more successful hunter. True, many products available today DO make us much more effective while in the woods. However, many times I find myself getting carried away thinking that my equipment is obsolete. For me, it's time to get back to the basics!
  14. This year I'm shooting a BowTech Guardian, 62lbs., 29" draw. Shooting Carbon Express Maxima 250 arrows, 100gr. heads. My setup is currently shooting at 263 fps. Does this seem a little slow? I love the way the Guardian shoots...very smooth, quiet, and forgiving. However, I am a little stumped as to why I'm not shooting a little quicker. Would most of you consider this plenty adequate for deer hunting? P.S. - For those of you wondering..."Why not just increase your draw weight..." When I purchased the bow (Used), it was equipped with the 50 - 60# limbs. Our local pro-shop added a few twists in order to acheive the 62#s. Would you upgrade to 60-70# limbs?
  15. That one looks pretty good...
  16. What types of packs are you using? Do you carry a backpack that holds items like rattling horns? I need to purchase one for this season and there are so many to choose from! Have you found one that's very versatile yet moderately priced?
  17. This season, my setup is a BowTech Guardian set at 63lbs. and a 29" draw. I'm shooting Carbon Express Maxima Hunters (250). I have a question about broadhead weight selection. I've always used 100 grain in whatever head I've shot. Now, I'm pulling less weight and shooting a lighter arrow. Should I increase my broadhead weight to 125gr.? Will this allow for more penetration? I plan to shoot Muzzy 3-blades this year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  18. I will be shooting a completely new setup this year. BowTech Guardian, 28 in. draw, 63lb. draw weight, Hostage Pro rest. In your opinion, what broadhead would you recommend? Have you found a fixed blade that flies similar to your field tips?
  19. Is there a particular broadhead that you use when turkey hunting? This will be my first year huntin' toms with a bow. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  20. True...I do think these would be a little less maintenance than a Rage though.
  21. Anyone tried these out? http://www.realtree.com/products/gearGuideDetail.php?ID=746 They look enticing...I may have to some some experimentin'!
