Been a while since I have been on here - lots going on but first and foremost - I could really use your help "Thanks to a program sponsored by Chase and LivingSocial called Mission: Small Businessâ„ , your support could translate into a $250,000 grant. But I need at least 250 votes at missionsmallbusiness.com by June 30, 2012 to qualify. To vote for my business: 1. Go to missionsmallbusiness.com click 'Log In & Support' and log in using Facebook. 2. Search for my business by name "RT Custom Knives" OR filter by our State and City. 3. Click on the blue Vote button next to my business name to show your support for my business." Many Thanks in advance and i promise I will bring you up to date on everything else in a day or so.

Where did you find that? That would look great on my new truck.

Best of luck Shaun - I keep thinking I'm gonna go back and finish on my private liscense but other things keep getting in the way. I admire you for stepping out there.

Thanks everyone - Anthony - Micarta was developed by Dupont and Westinghouse back in the early '50s as an insulating material for computer circuit boards. Typically made of many layers of Linen or Canvas and even paper bonded with resin and compressed into a solid board material. After its creation it was discovered that the resulting material was completely impervious to heat or cold or even moisture and pretty much indestructible. Most of what is available on the market is limited to Black, OD Green, Red, Brown or White. I am trying to come up with alternatives to give my customers a way to really make their knife their own signature style. It is a messy process but I think the end will most definitely justify the means.

Been busy gettiung ready for Blade Show in Atlanta the first of June and doing some experimenting. Been trying to make my own Micarta for handle material. Here is the first knife finished with the first batch of Micarta I have made. Here is a close up of the handle. The fabric I used is called "Tree Bark" and is a quilting fabric. I used Bondo Resin as the binder.

Thanks for the good words everyone - Both Buck and Case are great knives and are still made here in the USA. Benchmade is another great USA made knife. The best import in my opinion is Muela from Spain, a few years back I would have said PUMA from Germany but lately their quality has fallen off some. Cold Steel has some good products but stay away from their "Bowie" style knives. they only have a half tang and will fail if used as a camp knife. Just my 2 cents.

Best of Luck Ruth - fingers crossed and prayers going up.

Home at last, got in yesterday afternoon - left last Friday for Maryland for a niece's wedding. Before it was all said and done ended up in Gettysburg, Pa., Harper's Ferry, WV, Luray, Va., Louisville, Kentucky, Nashville, TN. Too much input for this old brain to deal with in such a short time. Great trip and having grown up in Virginia really enjoyed sharing some of my "home" grounds with family. Will post pics soon.

Glad you had a good time but DANG wish I would have known we could have wet a hook together. I was just across the mountain at Cherokee Indian Reservation. Only 25 miles as the crow flies about an hour drive time.

Except for some some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired. I'm tiredof being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people whodon't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I'm tiredof being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to. I'm tiredof being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand, UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed tofund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance.. I'm tiredof being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. I'm tiredof being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off? I'm tiredof hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor. I'm really tiredof people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems. I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government. Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 74.. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and her children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in. "I'm 74 and I'm tired." Mine is pretty much self explanatory.

GET PREPARED This morning the MuslimBrotherhood warned the United States that if the United States continuedmeddling in Egypt , Libya, and other potential hot spots in the middle east, they intend to cut off America's supply of 7-11 and Motel 6 managers. If this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell, AT&T and AOL customer service reps. Finally, if all else fails, they have threatened not to send us any morepresidents either. It's gonna get ugly, people. Real UGLY.

I held off getting a "Smart" phone for a while. Just couldn't justify it, that is until my bank came out with a device that allows me to take credit cards using my phone. So, after seesawing back and forth I got the Droid 3 because I wanted a physical keyboard instead of just a virtual one. So far no hiccups and it makes taking a credit card easy peezy. I know this will not be a prerequisite for most folks but it sure has made a difference in my business.

Prayers on the way - I am so sorry for your loss.

Thanks everyone - now I just need to head over to the Realtree store and get some decals for her.

Thanks everyone, this was really a case of a deal too good to pass up. She is a 2011 4 door Ram 1500 with the V6 engine 2 wheel drive. Don't go anywhere off road so i didn't need the 4 wheel capabilities and since we will use her for a lot of out of town trips went with the V6 for the better gas mileage. She still has the towing capabilities and comes already wired for that. She is Hunter Green with the full chrome package. Now as to the deal, ticket price was $19,400.00, they allowed me $4,800.00 on my 2000 Ram 1500 with 215,835 miles on her. When it was all said and done we only had to finance $12,000.00. She only has 8 miles on her and I put those on her during the test drive. I get to pick her up tomorrow.

Sorry I missed this - Happy Birthday - I hope it was a great one!

Thanks everyone - I hope she does well for the Hudson Valley Chapter.

Well, got up this morning and my wife informs me that we are going to go purchase my Birthday present. So, I'm thinking that she is going to let me pick out my new smokepole. But she has other things on her mind, We take a drive over to Greer, SC to the Dodge dealership and when it is all said and done I come away with a brand new 2011 4 door Dodge Ram 1500. She even had them add step bars and a hood deflector so I can't pick her up until next week after they get those installed. I will post pics of my new ride when I take delivery next week. Am I PUMPED!

Prayers for guidance Ruth - the Lord will never steer you wrong.
