  1. yep, get your sleep and nourish your body. You'll have all the energy you need. Try eating 3 servings of fruit a day and 4 servings of veggies a day, every day for a week and see how good you feel.
  2. A lot of people are mixing Red Bull with vodka...even nightclubs do it. A stimulant and a depressant together = not good! Make up your mind...do I want to get revved up tonight or wind down...but don't do both. Red Bull is just sugar, caffeine and taurine, an amino acid that stimulates the central nervous system. Crash for sure after a couple of Red Bulls. 5 Hour Energy and 6 Hour Power? They are not bad. Ingredient wise, 6 Hour Power is better. They both contain stimulants without any protection to your adrenal system. That causes side effects and dehydration. I know of 2 products that were designed to give energy, clear mind and focus without stressing the adrenal system and it actually protects the body's organs. I won't mention it here because I formulated the products and still sell them. High caffeine consumed on regular basis will only make your body require and crave more caffeine. Eventually leading to stress on the body's organs and dehydration (and a suppressed immune system...getting sick?). PLEASE wean yourselves off HIGH caffeine drinks and try to use more teas or get used to only a cup of coffee a day. Start drinking MORE WATER! the funny thing is...caffeine is very good at dehydrating you. What happens when you get dehydrated? You get TIRED and run down. Sometimes just getting hydrated again will give you your energy back. Diet...that can be discussed for days. But, a poor diet and infrequent meals makes you...can anyone guess? You got it...TIRED. If anyone wants/needs more help with diet, energy, supplement questions, anything nutritional...just let me know. I LOVE this stuff...yes, I'm a nutritional biochemistry nerd but its what I love to do. I'm happy to help. You gotta be healthy to hunt.
  3. Well, I appreciate everyone's responses last year. I actually pulled 3 permits on wildlife management areas here in Southwest Florida and will be deer hunting my first time on public land. Hope I'll be posting pictures the time I'm here. But, all I really care about is that I'm getting out there and starting to actually do this. Thanks for everyone's input in the past.
  4. That's good to know that there are outfitters out there that will do that. I'm sure that's probably not the norm. Thanks for the post.
  5. Thanks for everyone's responses.
  6. Guys, thanks for the great advice. I'll try to get in the woods more...or just at all. That's the hardest part, finding woods to access. I guess I should spend time on the public land out of season. I actually signed up for the hunter safety class here by the Fish & Game department. I am hoping to meet some fellow hunters, hopefully there will be a few that are older than 16. I will talk to the instructors to find out where I can go and possibilities. I found a "small" listing of leases in FL and GA. The ones that are less than $10,000 for the year (I couldn't believe that!) are more than 6 hours away. I guess beggars can't be choosers. There's a nice spot near the GA State line, almost 6 hours away, 3,400 acres, max 22 hunters, $1,350 for the year. They have 3 spots open. I'm going to sleep on it over the weekend and make a decision next week. Thanks again for all the help!
  7. Thanks for all the great replies! I'm sure I will learn a lot here. I've been a member of the NRA and read American Hunter for years now. I get to the range now and then but have been doing that since college. I'm pretty decent with that. I have read so many books on how to skin a deer, I could do it in my sleep...unless there was actually one in front of me. Practice will solidify everything. I will learn more about my public land system here and maybe try to get out before hunting season, before the crowds, and learn a little more about what happens out there (in the woods). Since my first post here, I've poked around and read some great posts from other members about hunting. I've already learned quite a bit in week. Thanks again!!
  8. Thanks everyone for the welcome and thoughts.
  9. Thanks for the great advice so far. A question comes up...one that I didn't mention in my original post. What land do I go to to watch the deer? Here in Florida, people are pretty strict with their land...if it isn't already being developed. To be honest, I haven't thought about the WMA's during the off season. In season, they are pretty crowded with short seasons compared to private land. Thanks!!
  10. Thanks for the welcomes! I have done some extensive reading and have been an NRA member for 15 years...getting American Hunter Magazine. I've read so many books on skinning a deer that I could do it blindfolded...until there is actually a deer in front of me. There is nothing like experience. There are a lot of fishermen in this ocean town but not much for hunters. The local sporting goods store, Wal-mart, Sports Authority, etc. all took out there hunting equipment. There is a shooting range an hour from me that I may look into joining and a Bass Pro opening in that same city. That will be nice. I appreciate the comments and will stick to it. It looks as though I should get a lot out of this forum as well. Thanks!!
  11. I am 40 years old but have had a passion for hunting since the mid 1980's. I grew up not knowing anyone who hunted...so I didn't hunt, but wanted to learn. I bought my first rifle at age 18 and tought myself how to shoot. In the 22 years that have past, I have only hunted 5 times. All of these hunts were day hunts with a guide for exotics. All of these hunts were really fun and had me bringing home game but really didn't teach me anything about hunting on my own. I had thought about public land but feel that I am too inexperienced and would not want to ruin someone elses hunt due to my lack of knowledge. I also have thought about a week long deer hunt with an outfitter in N. Florida or S. Georgia. But, I'm not really sure how to tell which outfitters are the good ones. Also, would that prepare me further for a solo hunt? My goal is to become educated and experienced enough to raise my kids in a hunting/outdoor activity houshold, teach them and hope that they have the same passion that I did growing up, but have someone to show them the way. Any suggestions, comments, advice would be appreciated.
  12. Just a, hopefully brief, background. I am 40 years old and have had a passion for hunting since I was 18. At that time, a high school friend who hunted the Florida Everglades turned me on to hunting. Unfortunately, we graduated and moved on without us hunting. I bought my first rifle shortly after that and began target shooting. Well, now I'm 40 and have only hunted 5 times in that 22 year time span. Each hunting trip I took was a day hunt for exotics with a guide. None of those hunts really tought me much. All had me bringing home game and were fun but not much knowledge. You see, I am trying to learn the sport of deer hunting and hunting in general. My goal is to become educated and experienced in the sport so I can teach my 2 sons, now 2 and 4 years old, the proper way of the outdoors. I want them to have what I didn't have growing up, a houshold that hunted. Still to this day, I really don't know anyone who hunts in my area and haven't made any friends to hunt with. I feel that I am too inexperienced to try a public land hunt here in Florida on my own. I've heard the lands are pretty crowded and I wouldn't want to ruin someone elses hunt due to my inexperience. Anyway, I thought I would write to see if any veterans could put in their two cents. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might go about getting some experience near my own town as far as deer hunting goes. If I decide to try a week long deer hunt in GA or N. FL, what kind of questions should I ask the outfitter? How do I know which are good. I am considering some acreage of my own once I am at the point to where I can call myself a hunter. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
