  1. When I was shooting the tree rats, I used either a 22 or a 12 guage with a load of #2's. It was great for getting them out of the tops of the oaks. I also used a pellet rifle and a pellet pistol with great success.
  2. Bring warm clothes too. The weather can change from sunshine to rain or snow in a heartbeat. Also, bring a pallet of Deet.
  3. Definately don't feel undergunned with the 300 wsm. I've never used one of them, but do know that a 270 Winchester will fold them quick.
  4. She will be able to handle the 25 06 just fine. Great for everything from mice to moose. Have a look at the Rugers.
  5. There is a sensor in the dash. Sounds like it has croaked. Cost me about $200,00 to get one replaced, and then things worked fine.
  6. Traditional. Don't like the serated or the guthooks at all.

    Bait!

Great day. Great eating too.
  8. Broke mine in 1992. I was paralized for a week from the waist down.Treatment was 3 years of physiotherapy. It depends on the break, as to what the treatment will be. No surgery was involved in my case. I now have a lifting restriction but am otherwise fine. It still throws ghost pains around my body, but other than that,no problems.
  9. Been there, done that. Sounds like the belt is broke. Not a difficult job to change it. While you have it apart, check the rollers that the drum sits on. If needed, they are around $10.00 each to replace.
  10. Ruger#1 in 270 weatherby magnum. 140 grain Hornady with 74 grains of IMR 7828 gives smoa and fantastic velocity.
  11. Marlin Golden 39. Love it. Sold the rest of them, but will take that one with me when I leave this realm.
  12. Played in the chess club when I was in high school. Still enjoy a game every now and again. Took my brother in law 15 years before he finally managed to beat me. He danced around the house and screeched and hollered for a while. I go over to a bud's place every week or so, and we will have 2 or 3 games to pass the time. Great game. Keeps you thinking.
  13. Gerber Gator. I have a couple of them, and really like them.
  14. I have a couple of them, and prefer them over my leupys. If it suits your purpose, grab it. You won't be sorry that you did.
  15. LOL. I like that one, and will try it on Duane, the next time we go out.
  16. Hmmm, let me see. 6 270 weatherby magnums, 1 458 winmag, 3 300 winmags, 1 338 winmag, 3 375 H&H. Might be a little light.
  17. Elk here. 1/2 hour from my doorstep, I can find lots of them. The deer here are like gophers, they are everywhere.
  18. I had a triple bypass done a couple years ago, and I was in no mood to shoot any of my cannons for quite a while after the fact.I would be asking the surgeon before I took the toys out to play. He warned me to be real careful about lifting and anything that was strenuous. He also told me about a local ranchers wife that didn't heed his advice. After 3 months, she went out to help her husband with the haying. She grabbed a bale, and busted the silver wires that hold the sternum together after the surgery. End result, she had to get opened up again and wired back together again. The pain of the surgery will be there for a long time. I have a 24/7 feeling of a "nipple twist" in my left chest area, because of all of the nerve damage that was done when they filleted me like a fish.If you want to do some shooting, take the 22 out and have a blast. Don't push it with the larger calibers. You may REALLY REGRET IT!
  19. With the 25 06 I am getting excellent accuracy with IMR 4831 in a buddy's Remington 700. I am loading my Ruger #1 with Reloader 22, and it really likes it. I am going to try IMR 7828 with the 120 grain Speer to see what it will do accuracy and velocity wise. I have found that unless the loads are fairly warm, accuracy suffers with the 25 06.
  20. I'm with you, Charlie! It's getting harder and harder to climb mountains that used to be mere hills. Before I'll shoot a moose, elk, deer, bear, antelope or whatever I'm after, "how much trouble is this thing gonna be to get it to my truck" goes through my mind before I pull the trigger. Age sure takes the keen pleasure off of a days outing. The best part of the hunting is getting as far out into the sticks away from civilization as is possible and laying back against a tree or rock and having a nap.Watching grizzly or elk is a lot easier than hauling one out. The adrenilin rush just isn't there anymore. Just joint and heart trouble.
