  1. Well, still no points for me. Sorry guys I tried but it didnt work out for deer in Wyoming. I leave Wednesday for a 4 day hunt in Southern Idaho, hopefully that will produce something. I still have a late season in Washington that I will be after that big boy I posted pics of and it that doesnt work out I have the last 5 days of season to kill a doe. I havent killed a deer in two years and its killing me. I've tried hard this year to get one without success yet, hopefully my luck will change soon.

Some early tips for your hunt next year...Start excercising and doing daily walks now. Steve goes anywhere and everywhere. All those hills you see in the pics will be traveled by foot going up and down. Dad and I did a lot of walking and excercise before the trip which saved our lives! We were winded and out of breath a lot of times but stuck with it and went everywhere Steve did and told us to. I did hear him out of breath a total of once, haha. He's a machine! For two big guys, we did pretty dang good and I was proud of us and the hiking and miles we put in on foot. We didnt lag to far behind following Steve. But without the months of 'training' and preparing for the hiking we both would be dead right now. I also have a ton of GPS marks to give you. You will not need them with Steve but if you do go out without him they will come in handy.

    92xj's Wyoming Hunt

to tired to type a lot so I will post some pics and try and type a story later. But I will type this.... Steve is an amazing person and I am grateful for his help, knowledge and skill. My only goal for this hunt was to get my dad to kill his first muley and truly experience an out west hunt. Steve accomplished this goal for me and I am forever in debt to him. I wish that everyone could get a chance to hunt with him or just sit down and listen to him. I wish I could have had a day to just sit on the porch, have a beverage and just listen to his stories. He's someone I look up to and admire and full of knowledge and some crazy and funny stories. Thank you for everything Steve. Anyhow, here are some pics from the trip....

And.....I'm home. I have a few pics I will post tonight after I unpack and settle down. Thanks for the support guys.
  6. Corey, better get ready. I will be sending on the road pics to you. Im heading out today after work. Will only be going 2 hours tonight to stay at my sisters for the night, but two hours off the trip tomorrow will be nice. William, If I find that guy, I will be sure to send you a picture of him dead.
  7. My hearts already racing and im a little nervous. haha. All hunting stuff and guns packed up, gotta throw some street clothes in a bag and I head out tomorrow night.
  8. Thanks for the heads up and opportunity. Im going to put in and see what kind of luck I have....
  9. Gotta do something to get some responses up in here. Otherwise all is quiet and no one talks. No fun!
  10. Going through pics now. Got two new bucks on camera as well as my big boy again. One 9 and one 10. If they walk in front of me I will give them a pass in hopes of seeing the big boy. If all else fails I will take a doe the last day of season for some meat and to take a doe out. I just hope all these bucks make it through rifle season that starts in two weeks. And, im good for whatever on a name. I like to stir the pot and get reaction, thats why I came up with the clique. If someone doesnt like it, think of something else and lets name the team already.

    I Lost My Hero

Chris, I'm so sorry to hear of this. Keep your head high and your memories fresh in your mind. He was a great man that raised a great family and an amazingly strong grandson. He is in a better place with the greatest people to walk on earth. Stay strong and let me know if you need anything, you have my number.
  12. Good luck buddy. I understand about this being the longest week. I head out Thursday night for my drive to Wyoming to hunt the Saturday opener as well. No new updates from me. I fished all weekend. Caught a 38lbs salmon and a 9ft 350-400lbs strugeon. It was a good day.
  13. Hey Dakota! Glad to see you're still around and seem to be doing well! If you're on the west side of the state sometime next week, let me know and i will meet you somewhere for dinner. I dont have a grinder or any processing stuff at the house yet, but plan to buy one very soon. So, I think I will take the deer to get deboned and then frozen and just bring back the lopes quartered and once home debone them and go purchase a grinder. Went to the range one last time this morning and the 270 and 300 are both hitting perfectly so I should have no excuse if the shot presents itself.
  14. 3 does just walked by. Hopefully the big boy start moving as well.
  15. Tim's getting down, heading in for some soup and a sandwich and then heading back to the stand around 2:30.

    Got a Question

Too each their own. They hunt their way, you hunt your way. No biggie. What a lot of people dont seem to realize is that these people are doing their career, there food on the table for their family (not in meat form, but household income). I absolutely gurantee you that if your household income depending on you killing the biggest buck you could, you would try and kill the biggest one and worry about the score. We as the normal everyday HOBBY hunter have different thoughts and need out of our deer hunting adventures. More folks should be open to others opinions about how they hunt and their priorities in the woods. We are a family of outdoorsman and need to support each other in anyway we can. Unless they break the law and poach.
  17. Thanks William and Jeff. You two have been a huge help and I appreciate all of it. If you think of anything else I might need or am forgetting as I post my pre hunt stuff, please let me know.
  18. Just checked into it and since wyo is considered a CWD state it is somewhat of a big deal. Deer have to be deboned and antlers off the head. Antelope it doesnt matter and I can bring them back however I want. Just talked to the taxidermist as well and have heads and capes figured out. Now, I just need to figure out the meat for the deer. It would be nice to get our deer early and have them processed in wyo while we are antelope hunting. Who did you use to have it done and what was the price, if you remember?
  19. Thats an idea I havent thought of. If Dad and I get animals early in the week we could use a processor there and have the meat done by the time I head back home. Dad wont be taking any meat or heads back home since he will be flying so I will bring everything with me. I need to look into the regs and see about transportation.
  20. Yeah, Im for sure going to avoid any water at all in the coolers. I'm thinking I will just pull the plugs on the bottom of the coolers so as the ice melts the water will just drain out and will continue to add ice daily to keep it cold.
  21. Got word last night from my hunting partner that he almost ran into a 140+ 9pt after he went into the gate at the hunting land here in Wa. Hopefully he makes it through rifle season, Oct 15-Nov 18, and walks by my stand in the late archery season. It will be hard to let an arrow fly at him with the big 15pt in the back of my mind, but who knows what will happen.
  22. Another question for you guys that have done multi-day hunts far from home. What did you do with the meat? I plan on loading up the truck bed with multiple coolers. Figure if we get something early on I will just leave the meat on ice with the drain open so the water constantly drains out and will keep putting new ice in. Will this work for days at a time before getting home and processing it?
