  1. I use 32 cal. hawkin with a .310 round ball, 40 grns 3f. Open sites. In january I sometimes use my 22 rem. Prefer the Hawkin with a 32 cal. drop in barrel. Makes me get closer cause I have old man eye sight.
  2. 45 cal. Kentucky Flintlock. .433 round ball with a .010 prelubed patch. 60 grns. fff black powder. ffff blackpowder for flash pan. Fixed iron rear sight. Fixed brass blade front sight. Going out Thurs. for our early antlerless season. I only hunt traditional muzzleloader. I also use my 50 & 54 Cal. Hawkins, patched ball & 90 grns. Pyro or Blackpowder. My eyes are getting bad so I may have to scope one of my hawkins as a last resort. The guns can shoot 100-125 yrds. Without a scope I'm only good out to 50 yrds. I also have a 32 Cal. percussion barrel I drop into my Hawkin to squirrel hunt. I know this is not what you were looking for but, there are a number of traditional guys like me out here. Can't explain it. It just feels so right/good shouldering a traditional smoke pole. Isn't it great that we have a choice. I'm not rag'n on you modern guys. We need all the hunters we can get so enjoy my friend. You'd laugh if you knew what my dream gun is. 4. Does anyone know of someone that still uses Vortex expandable broadheads? They were the rage for a while. Don't think you could get many pass through shots. Even at 2 or 2.5 inches the single whole didn't leave as good a blood trail as a pass through. Never used them myself but heard about them and that the long blades would break off when they hit bone. Some guys still swore by them. I've moved since then and don't know of anyone that still shoots'em. Are they even still in business? I'm happy with my broadheads( 4pt. Buck, pass through at 18 yds, last week) just curious about the vortex fad.
