  1. Coastal brownies don't trip my trigger, but an interior grizzly, that's the one I want to hunt. $12,000------that's more than what I paid for my pickup. Guess I'll be passing. Have to laugh about eating black bear----I've shot a couple here in Colorado. My mother-in-law made a couple roasts one Sunday. They were like shoe leather----She chewed on it for a while----then ask me when elk season was. CB
  2. I struck out. At least we get our money back. CB
  3. Have you gone to the reenactment at Gettysburg? I went to it several years ago, quite an education on the Civil War. CB
  4. AK-----Scroll down a few threads, should be "NM Oryx"--------photo there. It's a gesbuck from the Kalahari. CB I'm heading up to my cabin in Kenai this summer. Maybe we can get together & have a cold one.
  5. I have that itch also, maybe I win one at this year's banquet. Good luck & keep us posted on how it's going. CB
  6. TX----I've heard a rumor that the applications for oryx are way down this. Maybe we'll get lucky. I think they post results on 3/10. CB
  7. She beat it once, she can do it again. Keep the faith. CB
  8. I think I paid $120 last year in KS. If you want to dance you have to pay the fiddler. CB
  9. I got a used pair of Leica 7x42 Trinovid. Absolute worth the extra money. Used them on several elk hunts------clear as clear. You can count the leaves on a quakie 200 yards away. Plan on using them for a sheep hunt this fall if I draw a tag. I've been on 4 other sheep hunts, had what I thought was good glass----- Bushnell, Pentax, B&L, Redfield------got eye strain headaches. Not a pretty thing. So, I watched all the classified ads on several sites & picked up these Leica's off of Graybeard's site for $650. I'm a REAL HAPPY CAMPER now. If it was me, I would find a used pair of Swaro's or Leica. I put Swaro's in there because I used them a couple times from a fellow hunter in elk camp-----great glass. For what it's worth----I've been on 2 outfitted hunts. One was a moose hunt in WY----guide there had a pair of Lecia. The other was a South African hunt----PH there had a pair of Swaro's. Good Hunting----CB
  10. 150's would be lightest. 180's would be a much better choice. The 300 Win Mag & 180 grain Nolser Partitions is an elk classic. I would try Federal's 180 grain Nolser Partition on 300WSM. Looks like your rifle like Win Power points at least in 150's-----I would try them in 180's also.
  11. LOL----1st thing you do when moving to Durango, is to buy an 8HP snowblower. CB
  12. Here is a little pet-peeve of mine. Why do they charge you to e-file when it's suppose to be faster, cheaper & easier for them? Heck with that, I still us the US Post Office to file mine & I request a paper check rather than direct deposit.
  13. It's not only the states. But local city, county & school boards are all crying broke. Durango has laid off City Employees-----1st time ever. Talk of closing a couple of schools to save money-----consolidating the students into larger classes, so they can lay off teachers, staff, cut off the gas & electric.
  14. This is the time of year where the race is on between how much reserve the deer & elk have VS. the greening of spring. We have a lot of snow @ Durango---pushing 4' on the ground in their wintering ground. Let's hope they have enough to last another 3 or 4 weeks. The south facing slopes are melting off pretty good, got my fingers crossed. A buddy had the call the DOW on Monday. He had a cow elk bedded at his place & won't move. She was next to shed on the path, he cleared thru the 4' of snow to get to the shed. The DOW had to put her down. Her teeth were worn to the gumline. She was in pretty poor shape. She was just looking for a sunny spot to lie down in for her final days. DOW estimated her @ 17 years. She had a long life & hopefully passed her genes on. Come on sunshine !! CB
  15. The NWTF has a map of the US & where there are "pure" strains for the slam. Pretty sure it has to be an area where "pure" strains are to qualify. CB
  16. If it's legal----I'll shoot. CB
  17. Which unit did you apply for? Not enough points to draw or just bad luck? CB
  18. Kind of a wide open question. A Bighorn sheep tag in NM is @ $3500. An oryx in NM is @ $1600. In ID, a moose tag is @$2200. In Colorado a sheep tag is @ $1800--- same with moose. Elk is $544. Most I've ever spend was an Oryx in NM is was @ $1200 if memory serves me right. A WY moose tag set me back just about the same a couple years ago. CB
  19. With kids, I'd vote for the zoo. Plus you can probably catch a spring training game. Lots of hiking trails on Camelback.
  20. Try them all & get the one that fits you. Take a hunting jacket to the store when you try them. I'm a WingMaster man. CB
  21. Is that the original stock? I'm interested but I'm a south-paw. That thumb-hole stock won't work for me. CB
  22. Had a NWTF banquet meeting. Banquet is on 3/13, I'm on the the committee, have been for the past 6 years. Watching the Winter Games tonite. CB
  23. I have cast my own T/C Maxi-Balls. Killed several muleys & elk with them. I melted a bunch of them down trying to make shot for my trap shotgun. I never could get the Shot-Maker to work right. Guess I need to re-melt & cast them again. It's been a long time since I've shot black-powder. CB
