  1. I saw that show last night-------As far as it's a great show. Let's just agree to disagree. Didn't see the point of them shooting armadillos & skunks. As far as the campfire, again different stokes for different folks. CB
  2. maytom-----That's what I was thinking. I used those Activ shells-----best shell I ever patterned bought every box the store had. But they ran out a few years ago & could never find anymore. Think I may stock up on these Kents. The old Activ shells had 1 3/4 oz of shot in there 2 3/4" shells. I used 4's, 6's & 4x6-----smoked them gobblers. CB
  3. I got my Colorado Big Game Brochure in this weekend's mail. Filled out all my applications & mailed them out today. Bighorn Sheep---3 points plus 3 weighted points---Unit 16 Moose----3 points plus 8 weighted points---unit 6 Elk----no points-1st season either sex rifle--Unit 75 Deer--7 points"High Country" buck--Unit 74 Out of state NM--Oryx NH--Moose Out of Country New Brunswick-moose It doesn't take long. Not sure which way is better---online or US mail. Colorado I used the mail in forms---the rest I used the internet. This time of year reminds of when i was a kid & we would get the Sear's Christmas Catalog. Good luck to all. CB
  4. Anyone use or have pattern Kent "Ultimate Diamond". I have an old 870 that only will shoot 2 3/4" shells. Received a Cabela's flyer in today's mail & saw these shells. 2 3/4" have 1 5/8 oz of shot. Got a $25 gift card that I thought I might try them. But if someone had a bad experience with them, I pass & stick with Federal. CB
  5. My sister-in-law traced my Dad's side a while back. I know I had a relative who was with the Westmoreland Dragoons (PA)----fought in the Battle of Maumee (OH) in the War of 1812---died of his wounds & is buried at the battlefield. I had 3 uncles who fought at Gettysburg----one died of his wounds there & is buried no a stone's throw from where Lincoln gave the address. Several uncles fought in WWII-----one fought with Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. My wife's Dad went on Utah Beach on D-Day.
  6. Do yourself a favor, put a GOOD piece of glass on that 30/06. 3x9-- in Leupold or Nikon are my picks. That's what I did in 1973. Got a Model 700 in 30/06 with a Leupold 2.5 x 8 VarX-III. With that rifle, I have hunted everything----moose, elk, deer, antelope, black bear, mtn goat, bighorn & mtn lion. It's even gone to South Africa on a plains game hunt. I use 180 grain bullets for everything. Good Hunting. CB
  7. DocMort------Lizard Head, Taylor Mesa & Uncompaghre are good areas. I hunted Taylor & Lizard head years ago. IMO your better off hunting the same area-----the better you learn an area, the more success you'll have. I've been hunting the same area for the 25 years, it seems I know where the elk are going before they do. CB
  8. I drew a moose tag in unit 24 a couple years ago. I had 7 or 8 points. Seems like a NR has a better chance than a RES----at least for moose. WY sheep, goat, bison-----pretty long odds all the way round. When they were putting 10% of the oryx tags for NR---I drew on my 1st try. Sometimes those DOW's like that LARGE NR tag fee, IMO WYhunter----which unit your put in for?
  9. Dawg--------Lots of deer out on the dry side. You should draw a deer tag without a problem.
  10. TX-----try www.HuntNH.com This is where I applied online. CB
  11. TX---I've been on 4 sheep hunts here in Colorado. 2 were where I had the tag. The other 2, I played sherpa. IMO it's the Cadillac of hunts. If I draw this will probably be my last. We hunt over near Pagosa Springs----Wolf Creek Pass----God's Country. CB
  12. TX----I'm a luddite. I just googled NH fish & game. BR---Let's I hope I hit, may take you up on that offer. CB
  13. Anyone hit their squares? I had 0-0, hit the 1st quarter for $125. Could have hit again if NO has scored a TD at the half rather than a field goal. Anyone else? CB
  14. Anyone putting in for NH moose? I got a WY moose a few years ago & have the bug:tt1: . For $25 application fee, I think I'll put in---And hope Lady Luck smiles on me. CB
  15. What are your odds? Easy to find out----what unit? What season? Do you have any preference points? CB
  16. I got my sheep application in today's mail. Let's hope I draw. Deer & elk applications usually follow in about 2 weeks. CB
  17. I've a couple trips down to the Spring Cactus League. Pitchers & Catchers report in 2 weeks. Spring is just around the corner. CB
  18. Think I'll pass on Utah. Thinking about ID moose. CB
  19. In Africa they are called gemsbuck. Native to the Kalahari. They have been known to kill lions with those horns. NM fish & game introduce them into the desert back in the 70's.
  20. TX----I applied today online. Much easier than going thru the US mail. I put in for 224, 226, & broken horn on the Stallion 148. Good luck. Can you put a tickler on your computer & post here when the results are posted. Thanks-----Bob
  21. I use a stair climber for cardio. Don't forget weight training. I do shoulder shugs for the pack's shoulder straps. I guess you are doing a back pack hunt? Usually I set up camp & hunt out of it. Backpack only comes getting the meat out------the older I get-----the more horse power I use for packing. My backpack hunts for sheep-----training just like you are. Worked great, but I still lost 12 pounds in a 4 day hunt. Got a nice ram---7/8 curl. CB
  22. Didn't Lincoln pick the 4th Thursday of November.
  23. TX-----Which range did you apply for? The odds won't change much since everyone is now lumped into the same pool----both NR & Res. Back when NR had 10% of the tags it was a different story. Good luck---CB
