  1. Way to pull ahead boys! Nice looking deer y'all knocking down.
  2. :happybday: Have a good one Joe!
  3. To me its ideal about 5-7 days. Like William said, its rare in the south to have temps that low for several consecutive days, I've done it once or twice but you really need a cooler. I wouldn't let it hang in temps above mid forties.
  4. Yep. A few will make it. All about what your goals are and deer density, and movement as stated above.
  5. You can rest assured somebody was crying because they had been agree this big boy long time, someone has to have game cam pics of it. What a brute!
  6. Dang Todd it's gonna be a fruit salad back there in a few years! Wish I had a place to do that. Actually I suppose I do but bc of my brother...... Well I better not get started on that lol.
  7. That's great Todd! Glad you got it out, never had one (knock on wood), hope I never do!

    Dumb Turkey's!

Haha, I think I'd hit the garage remote and go to whacking lol. That's gotta leave a mess!
  9. I think this just comes naturally with age lol. Why do it all? How is the next generation going to learn anything if we do it all? Gotta pass the torch and let them do all the doing and we can continue to talk about it
  10. Yeah, that's different for sure to me. Would be cool to hunt something different like that to me.
  11. Haha, funny Dan, lots of hot days down here in the winter time to give the deer a break and get projects done. I can't wait to get some summer sausage goodies ordered next. Also would like to lay a half a hog in this thing if I can get a good rack. Need some expanded metal in SS but I'll have to scrounge that up somewhere, sure can't afford it. Luckily I have enough work done at the machine shop each year I am able to get stuff made for my government projects, lol.
  12. OP got quiet. Sounds like ok public land is the hardest hunt in the country lol. Maybe a rant more than a suggestion? Good advice by hoosier for sure. Good luck Mark wherever you go hunt.
  13. Well, no biggie, even if I need to put a 24vac transformer on the thing and get a low voltage relay, I got plenty of crap at work in the bone yard. Just need to get me a raintight enclosure to stick it all into and clean it up. Or I could just get a 4 prong plug and just pull a neutral into the box. Just one of those projects where I need warm weather I dont feel like hunting in and some cold beverages and a little time lol. May stick a rotisserie on it too in the future.
  14. Yeah Dan, I just threw some junk together lol, got romex and thhn hanging all over the back of the box. The stove elements are like 2600 Watts and my little thermostat was only rated at 7 amps, so I had to put a contactor on it. Need to scrounge one up with a 208 v cool so I can drop the neutral and just get a 3 wire cord and put an outlet in our skinning shed.
  15. Stud in my book! Congratulations, that's a good way to break it in!
  16. No "they" lol, just me. Read a couple posts back in this thread.
  17. Better yet, if you took the deer in a no-tag state, then just post a pic of a piece of paper with your information on it so that all the other members can see. Check the entry rules, but basically it's just your printed name, sign, state, etc.
  18. Abrown, let me know what state you killed your 8 in. Not knocking it, just need a tag pic or let me know if you were in a no-tag state like here in MS. Just so I don't get questions from another team. Thanks, john
  19. My next project will likely be some summer sausage. The smoked sausage was great, the green onion and cheese was awesome!

    Hey Tominator!

Happy Birthday Chris, hope it's a good one!
  21. That's awesome Rhine! Congratulations to JRu
  22. The sausage is for sale, just 49.99/lb. Seriously, after you stuff and smoke sausage, you don't think the processor is quite so high lol.
  23. It's not your ability to shoot that's the only factor, the sound is going to alert the deer way before your arrow gets to the deer. I shot this deer standing broad sided at 46 yards last year. She whirled to run and I got lucky. The arrow went in her back leg, out and them back in her stomach and through the vitals. I don't know what the magic distance is to consider ethical or not but I like mine in the, 20-30 range.
  24. That's awesome Charlie! Long time no see, good to see you back on. Congratulations to your daughter on a great deer, and congratulations to Dad also!
