    Broadheads

My fiance shoots a Hoyt rintec at 40 pounds and she shot her first buck with 2 blade NAP spitfires. She got excelent penetration at 30 yards. I was a bit weary of using a expandable with 40 pounds of draw weight, but they performed great.
  2. I find most of my sheds in bedding areas. I have one spot I go to twice a year and find 3-5 sheds most of the time. The second best is look in crops. When the bucks are shedding, bedding areas and food are where they spend most of their time. Also check in between the bedding and food on heavy trails where they meet fence lines.
  3. Wow the pics are really deceiving. I didnt think he had the mass to beat mid 160's.
  4. A good alfalfa field is hard to beat. I have had great luck this year and in the past years. The only problem is getting the bucks withing range sometimes. The best way I found to get closer to a big buck that is patterned in the middle of the field is to make a ground blind out of big round bales of hay. I saved a few back this fall and in the early season and my fiance shot her first buck with a bow. The deer are so used to them, it does not bother them a bit. I used 5 round bales and made a pentagon shape. I spaced them out about 18 inches in between the ends, and finished it up by placing burlap from the ground up to about 24 inches high with baling wire. It works great and there is plenty of room for 2 people and their bows.
  5. I would say 156 total antler. He might not net in the 150's, but nets are for fish. lol
  6. Congrats on the deer. And Great Pics.

  10. Keep your head up. It is very easy to get down on yourself while bowhunting (missed shots, bad weather, slow activity, etc). Just go out and enjoy yourself, you will learn as you go. Oh and practice, practice, practice. You will thank yourself when the shot counts.
  11. I shoot the 55 grain v-max in a 22-250. They are excelent loads for coyotes. The thing to do is to buy or borrow some to see if they shoot. Every gun shoots different.
  12. I have a Weatherby Vanguard (same as Howa). It is chambered in 22-250. I chose this gun because of the price and I had just heard good things about it. I had major problems with the gun holding good groups at first. I do all of my own reloading and I could not get the gun under an 1" 100 yards. To me, for a 22-250 that is horrible. I ended up working up 14 different loads and found one that worked(1/2 " 100 yds). From my experience these guns are very finnacky with different loads but are very well built with excellent bluing. Other than the problems at first, I love this gun. As for the .243 I would shoot sierra game king 100 grs. That is what I shoot out of my .243 they are extremelly accurate and have a thin enough jacket for whitetail.
  13. Ya you may be an alright teacher. haha. But my year went really rough and I spent 44 sittings in the stand this year, had one shot and many close encounters with 150" plus deer, I just couldn't close the deal. It made it really hard when me and you went and put up a stand, then you hunted it the next morning and shot a 157".(heck of a buck) But that is hunting, on the other hand I passed on some great young deer in the 130-140" range. And that is what it takes to have those opportunities at good bucks. It was one of those years I guess, but I had a blast even though I didnt kill anything. Moral of the story, Let the young bucks grow and keep your head high. PS dad, he grossed 184.
  14. I would go with the new Hoyt Aplhamax or see if you can get a last years model Katera for a discount price. To me speed is not everything, I would rather have a smooth forgiving bow.
  15. 09 changes My bow is at the shop now getting a new Muzzy zero effect rest on it now. I may end up getting a new string put on later after my bear hunt. O and I put some new Copper John micro adjust 6 pin sights on, they are super bright.

    First Deer

First buckThis is my first buck. I was 9 and me and my dad were sitting on my grandpa's farm on the opening morning of missouri season. This buck stepped out just after first light. I shot him a 75 yards with a 22-250. He scored just over 150".
