  1. Very nice IL buck there, Congrats!
  2. Congrats Martin on a great buck! Looks like yah got the SB XT Broke in well:yes:
  3. Around here you are going to pay in between $350-$575 for a full shoulder WT mount. You want to make sure you get a good tan on your hide and not a taxidermist that still uses DP (dry preserve) Dry preservative is alot more prone to crack and split then a tanned hide. Just remember Eyes, Ears, Nose is what makes a quality mount. Sadly, most people do not have a clue what goes into a quality mount, and get taken for real cheap shoddy work. Best you can do is ask around and make sure they use the right method, any quality taxidermist studies whitetail reference photos and will get there mounts looking identical to them as possible.
  4. Not too bad for her 2nd WT mount but from what I see... There needs to be more clay built up around the eyes, they look too "sunken in" Ear butts need more clay built up around them as well Lower lip is a painted in a bit thick, nose pad should not be black but appear to look wet. Antlers seem to be uneven, Dont know if the skull cap is out of wack or just the angle of the pic. Practice makes perfect...
  5. Man..I dont see how you can give it up so easy. I know it would be difficult to make that 2hr drive everytime but hunting is not a passion for me its an addiction. The same addiction nicotine is to people who smoke, just like everything else it has its highs and lows but thats why they call it HUNTING and not killing. The last thing I would ever do is give it up & sell everything, I will be with it until the end (when I can no longer do it anymore) I think you would regret in the long run if you did:hammer1:
  6. Ive got the 2 arm model, I have had it now for nearly 6 years. Not a single problem with it, very handy. I hang my day pack from it and bow when Im in my hang-ons. The little misc. hooks are very nice to hang grunt tubes & rattle bag from. Sometimes it can be a little bit difficult to get it started screwing into a tree, depending on the bark but it works great.
  7. Thats a heck of a 1st buck!! Congrats, and Martin sure put you on a good one eh?
  8. I just happen to notice after zooming in on the buck in the 2nd pic, he has a split brow tine on his right side.
  9. Just got in from checking one of my cams that has been out for two weeks. One borderline shooter in the bunch and plenty of different bucks. The one buck is in the process of shedding his velvet. What would you guess on the top bucks score? Im willing to bet 130-ish gross. Enjoy
  10. What you will be hunting over all depends upon the time of year. If its early season, typically you will be setup in between bedding and feeding. Most times its a picked cornfield, beans or an acorn flat. When the corn is still up...acorn flats near standing corn can be dynamite. Late October/Pre-rut you will want to start hunting rub lines and doe bedding areas near thicker cover. During rut I key in on doe bedding areas primarily and during the lock down phase when bucks are with a doe getting ready to breed you will want to move around if the activity is exhausted...good luck
  11. Im getting antsy as well...got my firearm tag in the mail about a month ago. Full season Jasper county
  12. Nice...hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine!
  13. Ive been seeing more fawns this year then I ever have, one of the grounds I hunt I ran into a mom with triplets. Heres a little guy from a different location...
  14. Had the same issue earlier, its back up and going now

  16. Thats right, the smell it gives off is native off a certain type of plant. I just got a Thermacell off ebay - Appliance, refill kit, and holster for $28 shipped. There has been quite a few combo deals listed on their by the same seller if anyone is looking for a deal!
  17. Second last day, in Colorado for a one week elk hunt wow, tough one but think id have to pass. 51yds is getting out there and too much time he can react, He deserves a better shot.
  18. Ive shot both, however... Your sort of comparing apples to oranges, the reezen is more of a speed bow and the alphamax is more of an all around hunting bow. Obviously Reezen is a rougher draw compared to the alphamax, your going to sacrafice a little smoothness for speed. For me, looking into a bow for hunting it had better be a smooth machine or I wont consider. To me the alphamax has the best of both worlds, speed & smoothness. Its not really classified in the "speed" category however it sits a mere 10-15fps below most speed bows. Hoyt's IBO on the Alphamax is 321 and most people get nearly 330 out of them. With that said I really like my alphamax coming from a Switchback XT, shoot both then decide.
  19. I have not owned a D40, however I had an 08 model I40 which was not worth its dollar. Great pics but the trigger was very slow, you would have to face it down a trail to where the deer are coming from to avoid pics of a deer's hindquarters. I sold it and purchased a Scoutguard SG550 and now own 2. Also, the Capture is quite a bit more then the D40 and in that price range Id be looking into the Scoutguard. Highly recommended, check out the chasingame.com review on it.
  20. I typically go alone, however I do hunt a few hundred acres with a few friends on their ground. Its nice to get out and experience it with others from time to time.
  21. Thats a tough one, but I think Id pass. Let him grow.
