  1. Well hopefully with the cold weather forecast for the weekend it will start cranking up pretty good. Like I said I took Friday off work so I will be hunting most of the weekend. I'm hoping to have blood on the 4 wheeler by the end of the weekend.
  2. I was hunting this past weekend and I called in a small 8 point. I hit the "can" a few times waited a couple minutes and then gave out a couple grunts on the "Buck Roar" and 5 minutes later he walked straight across a field and went straight to my stand turned broadside and stopped 10 ft. from my tree and then just walked back into the woods. Like I said he was on the smaller side so I let him walk. But yeah I'd say it's heating up a buddy of mine shot a 10 point out of that same stand Friday night he shot a doe and he came straight in to check her out and he smoked him. I took this upcomming Friday off work so I will be on stand pretty much all weekend.
  3. Well keep me posted as far as the activity you guys have been noticing. I will do the same thing. I hope for the deer's sake they don't go into rut too late I have a new T/C bone collector I am dying to break in. It would be nice but I don't think the rut will come in that late.
  4. I took off the Friday of veterans day weekend last year. I believe it was somewhere around the 11th. While I saw a few small bucks it seemed like the big ones were locked up already I was thinking about taking off the 5th and hunting hard the 5th, 6th, and the 7th. I want to try to catch them cruising through. But I am still debating but I think this may be a really good weekend.
  5. hahaha yes we got a ton of meat in the freezer just vacuum sealing some jerky right now as a matter of fact trying to make up the rest so I can replenish my supply.

Well I don't get to hunt in my backyard or anything like that. I know alot of hunters that would be thrilled with that deer. There's no guarantee I will even be hunting this property next year because it was a lease. The deer I had last year on camera was well outside the ears and you said that one was too small as well. Haha you must shoot some real monsters man.

This is what he looks like right now. Got them off my cam last week. Not gonna lie it would be pretty damn hard to let him walk.
  8. I wasn't able to hunt Sat. but I hunted all day Sunday I had one yearling at 40 yards and then at 5 in the evening we had 2 yearlings come out and feed and bed down in the field for about an hour. Then walked right under my dads stand. We let them walk that's all we saw. A guy we hunt with shot a doe opening morning and she was stuffed as well.
  9. Any real hunter knows that we don't have any deer here in Ohio. I heard a rumor they were going to cancel the out of state licenses and tags this year to get the deer numbers and quality rebound from all the Ohio deer running over to Ill.
  10. Hahaha yeah usually my dad and I go to dinner and have a couple beers to calm the excitement. Our season opens up Sat. morning so we are headed down to the hotel friday after work. So this year we will probably get some dinner and have a couple beers because usually I don't get much sleep the night before opening morning. It's like Christmas for me.
  11. Sure, let me know send me the info.
  12. Bingo that's why I have one setup on the edge of a food source and my other setup is my "honeyhole" when the wind is favorable. You can never have too many different locations. Deer are not dumb by any means if you overhunt an area they will catch on.
  13. I'd hunt the travel routes to and from the thicket. Obviously there are deer using that area to bed. But be VERY careful with your scent. I actually went to my lease recently and put up another stand in one of these similar areas. It's down in the bottoms and I have at least 3 or 4 trails within 25 yards that are down to the dirt so it appears they are being used pretty regularly. Its appears the area will be a hotspot when the bucks start looking for the does. So for that reason I am not going to hunt that stand on a regular basis. Only when the wind permits me. I believe the scent is the most important thing when hunting the areas close to the bedding areas. Good Luck!
  14. Hahaha you should have just left it in the gate to see how long it took him to notice.
  15. I don't hunt that season due to the fact it's only for the public land in the southern part of the state. Which personally I think it's a joke they should just make it a state wide Thursday - Sunday hunt. By the time the normal muzzleloader season starts the weather is mostly really crappy and the deer are so spooked from the shotgun seasons. I'd really like to go though I have a brand new T/C Triumph Bone Collector I am dying to use.

I agree personally to let him walk one year. The problem is that this is a hunting lease I only get to hunt on weekends due to the fact it's an hour away from my house. The landowner keeps telling us that he keeps seeing some really nice racks. I am a firm believer that this is not the dominant mature buck in the area. That middle picture was the last one that we got and that was over a month go so im just not sure how much he can grow in that time. Mind you the property has more corn, soybean, and alfalfa around that any deer could want so nutrition is very good and apparently there are some really good genetics as well.

What do you think? Got tons of pics on the camera of him I moved the camera to a different area of the property to scout another area as well so the last pics I have of him are from mid - late July. What do you think he could score by having over another month of growth.
  18. Yeah we bought a brand new Honda Rancher 4x4 5 speed this summer. The thing is awesome and from what I hear it can handle just about anything.
  19. I think the most important thing you can do in hunting rub and scrape lines is #1 whatever you do watch your scent and do not come in direct contact with scrapes and rubs. #2 I have hunted these areas before once I find the area I typically hang a stand nearby and I only hunt it in that "prime time" when the wind permits. I try not to overhunt that stand because I believe that no matter how hard you try to watch your scent if you walk into a big bucks backyard too many times he will eventually catch on.
  20. Yeah jobs are really tough to come by as I am sure alot of you know. It was really good to see him get back to work right before the holidays too. We have had a great season passed on alot of does and some smaller bucks. You can't get the big ones if you don't let them grow.
  21. Thanks yeah we were both using T/C Black Diamonds and I absolutely loved that gun. Hopefully I can get it sighted in this weekend.
  22. I ended up with two and my dad ended up with 2 during the first 3 days of the Ohio gun season. We didn't get one of the big bucks we have been seeing on our cams but we still had a great time with many great memories. Now, I thought I may be done. But with my dad out of work for the past 7 months I put in a word at my company for him and he landed a job 3 days after we returned from hunting. So my mom and dad suprised me this Christmas by getting me a T/C Triumph Bone Collector to say thanks for helping them out the way I did. So I am thinking I just may have to take a lil drive for a late season Muzzleloader hunt. Just maybe I am not quite done yet.
  23. Try the 240 grain T/C Express bullets and 150 grains of pellets Triple Seven and Regular Pellets shoot similar for me. I have had great sucess with it.
  24. My father's and my Black Diamond loves the 240 gr. T/C Express with 3 pellets that gun is lethal. I will never use another load in that gun. It puts them down!!
  25. My dad and I both shoot T/C Black diamond with 150 grains of pellets and 240 grain T/C Express sabots and those guns are the most accurate gun I have ever shot. The deer don't run far either!!
