  1. between the 2nd green and yellow would be almost ideal
  2. Being that he is not quite completely broadside, a little quartering to, I would go with the 3rd yellow dot down. It's low enough to compensate for the drop, and it's also just enough behind the shoulder to get both lungs.
  3. In Hoosier's defense- 425 yds is a VERY long shot for a .243. You might know that you can shoot that far with it, but do you know how well your bullets velocity and kinetic energy is at that distance? I could probably hit targets at that distance no problem but to hit a MOVING target at that distance is quite impossible. (Unless you are a sniper which i am going to take a wild guess and say you aren't) And if you were finding dinner plate size puddles of blood, the you probably were pushing the deer and made the mistake of not backing out.
  4. Sorry I didn't mean to sound degrading on that. Just my personal opinion and observation. I do hope that you get another chance at this deer and if you do get to harvest him, definitely keep us posted on if that was for sure a wound or not. Good Luck!
  5. I agree with everyone else here...It's REALLY important to be patient. That goes for all types of hunting from squirrels to deer. We have been given the great name to be called wildlife conservationists, and to say that you were shooting at a deer over 300 yards on the run, is kind of giving all of us hunters a bad name. I agree that I really think you should take a hunter's education class. It's VERY important to be safe but it is also important to be respectful to our wildlife too! Did your Grandpa take a shot at a running deer too! I bet he didn't. If so he may need to be in the class with you. Hope you guys have a SAFE rest of the season.
  6. I think it is a wound, I just don't know that it is from a bullet. It could be from a barbwire fence, or even someone could have shot a poor quartering to shot with a bow that doesn't shoot a lot of poundage. Even at 170 yds with a ML, if that is her shot, it should have put him down. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but unless I'm shooting over 100 grain of powder, I don't know that 170 yds is a great shot choice. I think he's fine. If it was lethal, I don't think he would have lived 14-15 hours after the shot. But I guess stranger things have happened.
  7. I think someone is walking at a fairly fast pace past your trail camera. It is to defined to be a ghost I think. Then again what do I know.
  8. It was a pretty neat hunt. It was a really steady cold rain on Nov. 20, 2003. I was hunting a field that is probably 400 yards long and I would say no more than 30-40 yards wide. I just pulled up to a spot there on the creek bank got off of my 4-wheeler and set up right directly in front of it. I was only out to try and harvest a doe for my aunt so my intention was not completley out for a buck, although the rut was in full force so I never doubted the chance of it. About 15 minutes after I got set up, I noticed a couple of deer hauling butt down the hill to my right, so I got ready for a shot. The two does basically busted it across the field with no chance for a shot even though I tried to stop them. About 30 seconds later coming down the same trail was another deer coming pretty fast, when he came out in the field he was in a hot trot coming straight at me grunting every step of the way. He started at 80 yds and once I got the crosshairs on his chest and pulled the trigger, he was at about 10 yards. He died just 15 yards from where I was sitting directly in front of me. The fastest hunt I've been on!
  9. Lets say that I wanted to sell a deer mount that I had, probably a 115" 8 pointer. Very Nice mount got it done in 2003, and just want to get a little extra money to maybe get another deer that I have harvested mounted. Who would be potential markets to try and sell to and get the most money from my mount?
  10. I don't know what he would score but i say hang your stand close by there cause he's makin' a scrape right in front of your camera!

Here in KY, we went to not even having to attach a physical tag unless it leaves your possesion (i.e. Processor, Giveing it to someone, Taxidermist, Hauling in someone elses vehicle, etc..). We do have to fill out a harvest log on the back of our hunting license or deer permit before we move the animal though. Our deer permits entitle you to 2 deer, either one antlered and one antlerless or 2 antlerless deer. We can then purchase Bonus tags which is for 2 antlerless deer. When we harvest a deer we just have to phone it in on and automated check in line. And fill out a harvest log with a confirmation # that is given at the time of the call. I wish that we did still have the mandatory phyisical tags because I believe that it keeps someone honest. I have talked to people that have been able to slip by and not tag an animal and take more than their allowed. Seems to me that is unfair, and obviously unlawful. Allbeit, in the "zone" that I hunt in we can continue to buy as many bonus tags as we would like, but some I guess can't seem to just put up the extra $20 for them.
  12. Stinger- If you need any kind of graphic arts, I am a graphic artist. Just let me know. Advice wise- You should devote a page to kids. They are our future of hunting and if we can keep them "in the know" on laws and ettiquette of hunting we can plant that seed for the future.
  13. I am a graphic artist and I use photoshop about 95% of my work day, if that is a photoshop job it's one **** of a photoshop job! It would extremley hard to make that look like that with all of the other detail and lighting and other deer in the picture that I bet no one has even noticed!
  14. I don't guess I really know what brace height means, what am i looking for in that?
  15. I have been thinking about getting one of the PSE Bow Madness bows or a Matthews Reezen, what does everyone think about them?
