Nothing too special.... We just went sturgeon spearing! Then we came home watched some of the race and had a hearty dinner consisting of Mac N Cheese!

2010 Pictures from todays pheasant hunt. Felt good to get out of the house, cabin fever is getting pretty bad. I loathe winter! -
LOL .... holding the bow upside down... OOPS indeed! Turkey hunting was unproductive, went fishing instead......it was very interesting to say the least. Nice crappie! Put up a really good fight! The smallest fish I have ever caught hahaha. This bullfrog thought my Mr. Twister tail looked yummy. Hooked him in thru the nostril. PIG! A very strange day!

Pretty bad over here in Wisconsin too. Last winter was just as bad. Really not good having two super harsh winters in a row. I distinctly remember a day of coyote hunting where I wasn't breaking through the ice crust or sinking in to the snow. Not good!! How is an animal to find food?! It's not just the old that die off - starvation comes quickly and wipes out what once were strong resiliant birds. We found many winter kill carcasses last year. Birds that huddled under pine trees trying to seek shelter to die a slow, painful death. I wonder how many we will find this winter. The area I hunt is 99% pines/thick forest, not too many farm fields around for them to forage in...they really have to work to find food. Looks like the wolves will be getting fatter this year.......

Knobby.... I recognize your logo in your signature. 99% sure I saw it on the window of a vehicle - think it was a Jeep - parked at the Waters Edge motel in Stoddard, WI thanksgiving weekend. Vehicle had an Illinois license plate and I distinctly remember saying "go home flatlander" after seeing it HAHAHAHA. Nice pics!

How many people quit deer to hunt ducks
QueenOfTheMarsh replied to ROADKILL04's topic in Deer Hunting
Quit deer hunting 5 years ago and I don't regret it at all. Deer hunting in WI has become a joke anyhow thanks to our useless DNR and their brilliant herd control methods. Glad I don't waste my money or time on that crap anymore. They sure are tasty though, but I can't butcher them I am very allergic - found out the hard way. -
Mainly Max4. I really like Avery Marsh Grass, but I can't find it on any clothing that fits me. Just my gear bag and floating gun case. They don't manufacture Advantage Wetlands any more, that's why you can never find it now a days. They also stopped making Realtree Hardwoods - which is a REALLY good camo pattern for late fall/winter when everything is dead.

I have already been told what I am getting - a new bow and accessories! I cannot wait! I'll use my old one for bowfishing, but **** .... it might even be too crappy for that! HAHAHA! Aside from that gift, I'm not sure what else Santa will bring me.

You're not going to like me You do your things, I'll do mine. I don't get out that often, I sure as **** am not picking and choosing, if I'm lucky enough to get a bird to decoy I'm gunna make a hard attempt to knock it down (some times that doesn't happen *blush*). Then it immediately goes in the frying pan when I get back to camp. I'm not all about killing, I like the other things that come along with hunting - watching the sunrise & set, watching various wildlife out and about, bsing with buddies, etc. I actually get yelled @ a lot for 'bird watching' - I'm always taking pictures and distracted - I don't pull the trigger all that often. Had a beaver swimmin' around in the decoys last weekend, kept smacking the water with its tail .... that was pretty neat to see. I'll smack a hen and I'll smack 'em on the water ... if they refuse to flush when I whistle. Couldn't offer my $0.02 on the DVD mentioned, I never watch them, because I find 99% of hunting shows/dvds to be incredibly lame - that's just me. Doesn't sound like I'm missing out on anything. Safe hunting everyone.

Ditto. Gov Doyle doesn't stand a chance, ugh I can already feel my blood start to boil just thinking about that d**che.

Sorry to hear that, turkeygirl. =( I have 3 pet rabbits myself - I spoil them rotten and love them lots. Not looking forward to the day I have to put them to sleep or find them already gone.

Sorry for the late reply! Yeah it was a hen mallard sporting the jewelry. The band info wasn't too exciting, she was banded a few months prior about 30 miles away. This weekend my boyfriend Josh got 2 more bands. A goose that was 5 years old and banded here in WI and another mallard that was banded last month in MN. -

That little LM fought pretty damn good I must say! I thought I had a nice perch or bluegill on and then that little sob comes to the surface! I almost fell over laughing - so did my dad. I was so excited til I saw what was on the end of the line. Took me a while to get that pic ... hard to lip it!! -

Biggest fish I caught this summer!! Haha, just kidding. -
Awesome!! Gotta love getting some jewelery! Too bad it wasn't a reward band, getting some cash for shooting a bird...can't get any better than that!
-
Any way you can get a better shot of the face - particularly the bill. The third picture to me has hen ringneck written all over it. Definitely not a sawbill/merganser - incorrect bill shape for that. Hmmmm very odd, that's for sure.

Domestic cats hunting small game.
QueenOfTheMarsh replied to sluggunner's topic in Upland & Small Game
Had a very large orange cat run in front of my car and in to the corn field where it flushed a rooster and hen pheasant. I've never seen a cat jump up in the air so high in my life!! Didn't have any luck though. I won't shoot cats, there are far worse predators out there that need to be taken care of....yotes, coons, possums, skunks, etc. Can't bring myself to shoot what was once someone's pet. Do you guys shoot dogs when you come across them?! I remember when I was a little kid, a pack of 3 nasty, feral dogs came out of the woods @ the cabin...grandpa came out and shot all 3. -
Sorry to hear that! We've had property there since 1978. Thanks to the rampent wolf problem (bears are quickly on the rise too) the hunting in the area has gone downhill. That is unless you head further west in the county towards Taylor. I wouldn't worry so much about yourself getting mauled by a bear or wolf in that area, however if you plan on running a dog (grouse hunting, leasure walk, etc) then you need to be very cautious. Just remember, even if you shoot a wolf in self defense you can still get nailed for poaching. So stupid. Many of the locals practice "SSS" and I don't blame them at all. Every time I go to the cabin I see either a bear or a wolf. They aren't nervous of people at all - won't be long til someone gets hurt .... then maybe the laws will change. Can't wait to see the handgun pics, good luck with your decision! I have zero experience with them, so no advice from me! lol

We look for steep dropoffs and cast the bait (bluegills usually) about half way down the drop off. When the flatheads come up from the depths at night to feed in the shallows, they'll smack our poor little gill. Last time we went out it was nothing but gar - those little guys are good at stealing bait. Managed to get one in the boat cause it wrapped the line around its snout real well. They are so tasty, wish we could catch more.

You ladies getting geared up for deer?
QueenOfTheMarsh replied to Turkeygirl's topic in Women & Hunting
Nope! Deer hunting is not my cup of tea. Wolves have taken a hard toll on the deer around here, don't feel like wasting my time. Good luck to everyone this season .... I'll be in the marsh instead.
