  1. The person that put the time into that $150 set-up to get it to shoot is one I'd take to the field with me.
  2. A 1,000 rounds a week...I'd like to hear how you're casting, lubing, the time involved and paying for blackpowder/smokeless powder, brass, primers, caps, flints and working. I can use up a couple days just getting 100 rounds ready to shoot thru the Sharps for 1 day on the weekend...not counting anything else.
  3. Yep...I cast all mine for the .36 and .44 revolvers and .40, .50 and .54 rifles. Have more made up than I could shoot in a long time.
  4. I use 3f in my little .40 caliber longrifle and prime the pan with Swiss Null B...it's finer than 4f. I use 2f in the .50 and Goex Cartridge Grade in the .54 caliber.
  5. You'll get a little more velocity out of 3f than 2f.
  6. Nor I. No plastic fouling, no swabbing in between shots to get some certain brand to shoot, etc., etc. A patched roundball has been killing critters for many years around this place and I see no reason to change things.
  7. The scope probably had more to do with it than the powder.
  8. Have shot a few thousand rounds of that particular cartridge. Haven't shot it lately...been playing with the 45-60 levergun. Just a shorter version of the 45-70.
  9. Real dark blood is usually a liver shot...she shouldn't of went too far.
  10. Too much powder...too little of bullet.
  11. Well...if you're gonna try that big of bullet why not stick to a .50 caliber conical instead of that smaller stuff?
  12. Shoot it in when it's about 0 degree's out with a 30-40 mph wind that's whipping every which direction. I don't know many that do...most shoot in real pleasant conditions and there's no comparison. Have a good rangefinder? You'll need it. A good spotter would help too. I can't imagine being by yourself taking a shot like that in freezing temps with a wind blowing snow or sleet and then walking 1000 yards to where you "thought" you shot that game. Lord have mercy.
  13. The Lyman Blackpowder Handbook is full of loading data using 3f for roundball, conicals and sabots out of the same rifle.
  14. Most states don't allow smokeless powder let alone a centerfire blank.
