  1. THey held a blade because they used cold rolled steel instead of stainless. Tough to sharpen but held a sharp blade for a long, long time. Check out Randall knives.
  2. Maybe God is leading you in a different direction and you just don't realize it yet.
  3. Yea go big. Use a short barreled 12 guage. Any handgun will be a loss if you can't handle it andput the bullet where it needs to go while keeping a cool head. and a 357 magnum loaded with 180 grains will stop a black bear. It will even stop a bigger bear IF you can hit it where it needs to be hit. By the way a single action is the best as Double actions jam and you don't need that to happen when you are about to become bear scat.
  4. You will need a barrel length of at least 6 inches in order for the forces of the magnum to come to full potential. Anything shorter and you will have to be kissing the bear to get in a kill shot!
  5. I ordered the Hogue grips for my cannon. and cannon it is! I took it out last week for the maiden voyage and what a maiden voyage itwas too. I thought the first time I pulled the trigger it was going to knock my head off! I got really used to it quick too. Another fellow that has one told me to start shooting the 180 grain slugs instead as those will shoot a whole lot smoother than the ol' 240 grainers. The Hogue grips will allow me to not worry about where my noggin will be after shooting the 240's!
  6. My buddy is hot to do a bear hunt next year. So I started calling around to see who and where we would end up. I called and talked with this one guy nad it sounded real good until I asked him if he was going to put us on stand and bring us out of the woods in the daark. He said NO. I told him I am disabled and need the help, and that SOB told me I should book a hunt with someone else. GLADLY, ya moron! People give me a hard time because I do a preserve hunt each year in New York. But let me tell you about them. I go to Cold Brook, in Homer and the guide there is David Perry. Dave, my hunting partner Dan and I have been together now for five years. And Dave knows my abilities and knows how to take care of me when I am having one of my "off" days. If I am o.k. he puts me on stand and leaves me in the woods for hours on end. He knows what I can do with my longbow and/or muzzleloaders. However if I tell him I am a little off today, he will make sure I am within reach, or he will give me a guided, semi-guided or even just sit on the vehicle and take me to where I need to be, and get me into a shooting solution. I love it at Cold Brook and highly reccommned them to anyone with a disability. You, too will go back year after year. They take really great care of everyone. Just my .02cents worth!
  7. I always do a preserve hunt for boar, in NEw York but I am also on the CAMO webpage and after reporting my success in New York a couple of weeks ago, I got an invite to hunt them in Ohio. It seems they have quite a few down there, running wild. Sounds like a future plan to me. We do have them here in Mass, but not in any great numbers, not yet anyway. They are making the Massachusetts woods home, but not so you'd notice. We actually had one killed on the highway last summer, and the town fellow that was called to remove the animal found it still alive, to which he promptly dispathed it and brought it home and butchered it! Fitting ending to a highly praised, and great eating beast. Wouldn't ya say??
  8. I've shot nothing but patched round balls for the past, oh I'd say 40 odd years! I have one inline, and 8 side hammers and I like the side hammers the best. Everything shoots patched round balls (including the inline), but the favorite guns are TC Custom Hawken rifles one in flintlock and one in cap lock and the ol Lyman Grt Plains 54!
  9. TC sell breech pullers. I've never had to do that, because I've always been able to break the patch free. What the guys are tellin ya to do works! And I use a pair of vice grips around a rag at the top of the rod and pull fer all ya iz worth. It does come out. Sounds like ya got a ring of crap built up where is just gets to a narro point, which is why it ain't movin, but keep workin that rod up and down and add more liquid (use some dish soap) and that'll loosen the crud ting and then use a brsuh on the bore and get that stuff out of there. In the future, beware cuz it'll happen again. Y need to swabo the bore inbetween your shots, or in between every third shot to stop that from happening, so when you go and clean it, it'll be better and ya won't get the patch stuck like that again.:hammer1:
  10. Only got one inline and that one takes the TC 240 grain sabot. All the rest of the guns (7) take a patched round ball and they kill out past 100 yards and I got no complaints at all!
  11. I don't do it at all. Get suspicious of stuff that can pick ya up just like that. Had some stuff once that really did it , but unfortunately it sped up the ticker too, and can't really let that happen, so I stay away. I do an energy drinkl mix from a company called Maleleuca. Dump the stuff ina bottle of water and I'm off and running. The stuff is called Sustain, and better than Gator aide and Power aide and all them. It works for me, and don't speed up the heart and that is important for me. Good luck, guys!
  12. Also because of my inabilities, I go to a preserve and pay for my hunting. I do have one in NEw York and they cater to my problems. I have lyme and some days I am with it, and other days I am a freaking turnip but they know my abilities and inabilities and I love them for it. I still get out an d hunt here, but I can't go far, so I post most of the time.
  13. Been there and done it, and do it every year. But the tree is dependent on what looks good. If there is a deer trail within 30 yards, or if they are feeding in the area, that's where I sit. Got lucky once too. Notice, once in 48 years. Deer hunting is more being at the right place, at the right time. I live in MASS and they drive the **** out of em six, seven, eight guys to get one deer. Not my style.
  14. They are all my favorites!! I do luv the 444 Marlin Guide Gun though, and my Remington 700 in 7mm, and my Ruger 96 in 44 Magnum, and my 50 cal flintlock, oh yea and the grt.plains 54. Awesome bunch they are....really!
  15. I would love to find a Marlin chambered for 338 Marlin. I have the guide gun series now, that is, the big ones. 450 AMrlin, 444 Marlin and two 45-70s all guide guns and now I want the 338, but just don't know where they arae, and haven't seen any either.
  16. Yup, glasses can save us all. Glad the young lady is o.k. Know what she went through first hand, with a Lyman Great Plains Rifle that blew up in my puss last year. Sent it back, got it fixed, and traded that dog in!!
  17. My gun dealer carries two Glocks in 9mm with a backup S&W 38 loaded with 158 gr HP that will stop a bus! My personal carry is a S&W 38 same load. Its the load not the gun that is important.
  18. Yes sir, I am a proud owner of a P345 and i bought one for my buddy too. The gun is AWESOME!!!!!! Very, very accurate, I've had it to the range a few times and hit everything I've shot it at, out to 60 yards so far. I love it!! You won't be disappointed!!:clown:
  19. I've never heard of Houge monogrips. Where can I get those. My gun has the standard grip (wood) on it and I probably won't fire it until I have something a bit more manageable on it.
  20. I have heard that this is propsed but so far it ain't going anywhere. Its what they want to do but there are way, way too many americans with guns now for them to be able to pass that without risking a war right here.
  21. Well gee-whizzz here, with the country, I mean everybody in the country buying guns and ammo might tell ya something about the happiness of having Bam-Bam in office...ya think?? I guess we kinda have to make our own sense and security, cuz we can't trust that guy and we don't either!!
  22. Try Kittery Trading post. I believe the web address is:kitterytradingpost.com and check and see what they have in stock.
  23. Try personal defense dealers. They can get ammo that no one else can seem to get, because they sell mostly to police departments.
  24. I love those prices. I bought one today and paid $475.00 second hand, but great condition and never fired, still in the original box.
