  1. Thanks guys!!! I appreciate the advice. My daughter was born in camo... She was at a birthday party when she was around 3-4 and a deer walked across the lawn and all he kids were admiring the deer when my daughter proclaimed, "My Daddy's going to shoot that deer...then we are going to eat it!" My wife shaking her head said she is all her Daddy... BTW Just so it's very clear for those concerned. I will be sitting with her.
  2. I would like to start having my 5 yo daughter start shooting for next years deer hunt. She's been asking to go a lot this year and next year she will be 6 and old enough to hunt. What recommendations would you give for a gun that will put a deer down but have little to no recoil? Once I figure that out I need to find it in pink.... Thanks in advance for any info. Thanks
  3. My buddy is trying to run down the story/neighbor...will keep you posted! If it's true I hope to run into his offspring tomorrow!!!
  4. Anyone have any details on this buck? Got this from a friend who said it was harvested in the area near where we hunt. It's a beast!!! Thought someone in here might now. It was either a ML or archery kill. It could be one of those bucks that is claimed to be killed in every state.
  5. Most guys will NEVER tag a buck that big...congrats!!!
  6. Could also be from fighting and taking a tine to the shoulder...possible?
  7. I don't think Milo is full of himself - probably just tired of getting asked EVERY year the same question. This buck has been talked about on several other sites and most don't believe this is anywhere near the record. It's so hard to tell from a picture but i agree with others that it doesn't look anywhere near as big as the Hanson buck.
  8. I go in about an hour before light. Some deer (when it's real dark) won't even spook if you are quiet. I have had deer less than 100 yds away not even notice I just walked by them and up into my stand. Last year I shot a deer that was at the feeder one too many minute long...
  9. Cover with good trails through it. I use to live and hunt in VA during dog season and the deer like to have cover to hide in and also take a break. The cover also helps to confuse the dogs. Go high in the tree and make sure you can see in the distance. Be ready! It can be quiet one minute and all of a sudden you can have 10 deer on top of you.
  10. Is that a elk? Maybe it's a Whitetail Elk? Holy cow that's huge!!! Congrats!!!
  11. This is a heck of a buck! However, not sure this is a deer you brag about. He wounded it (I have done the same) and didn't find it. The farmer found it and called you. It's a great buck but not a great kill. I actually don't think you can actually enter it as a killed buck but as a pick-up. It will be interesting to see how they enter it. Again, great buck but unfortunate ending. Too bad...
  12. To say this past weekend was great would be an understatement. I shot two nice TX Hill Country bucks when the deer weren't moving (full moon/acorns). I saw 15 deer (which is very low) but 12 of those deer were bucks!!! The first deer I shot was at 120 yds. He came in very nervous and started walking away. When I shot I thought I had missed him as I saw a deer run away. I was bummed and my buddies were texting me and giving me a hard time. After an hour I got up to check to make sure I didn't hit him and as I approached the spot I saw a white belly - I hit him!!!! The second deer came the next day. I was in the same stand and saw a doe early in the morning behind me. She was real jittery and acting like a doe in heat. She left and came back in a hurry and ran accross my path. I knew if there were any bucks in the area they would follow. About 45 minutes later I thought an elephant was coming through the forrest. This buck burst out looking for his lady friend. I quickly repositioned myself and as he stopped at 80 yds I was able to put a good shot on him. He ran about 60 yds and piled up. It has been a great season for me so far. 3 nice bucks (2 TX/1 OK)!
  13. I believe this was on private land and no one has mentioned whether they think this was a "hunting rage" incident where a guy who was leasing land had enough of trespassers and his emotions got the best of him? I agree with many that it could be an accident but unless you are old and have bad eyesight mistaking someone for a deer with a ML is VERY hard. it's not like a shotgun where you can quickly point and shoot. You want to make sure of your shot because you only get 1!!!
  14. Sorry- Those are the scores of both sides averaged so I didn't have to input them all. You did answer my question though. Thanks!
  15. So I am a little confused about scoring (and will eventually take this buck to be scored). I have never had a buck I really cared about the scoring tell NOW! While my buck is not very wide it has the following measurements (avg): G1: 3 4/8G2: 10 0/8G3: 9 0/8G4: 6 4/8Circ (all 4 measurements): 16 0/0Main Beam: 17 4/8Inside Spread: 13 4/8Abnormal Point: 2 4/8 Gross: 141 I wanted to keep it simple but my confusion is on the spread. Am I counting that right? You only use the inside spread? I used the B&C scoring sheet that is automated and imagine it's 100% accurate. I guess I am just confused if this buck had a 22" spread it wouldn't make 150". Am I doing something wrong?????? Thanks for any help!
