  1. whatever came factory on my Nova. worked good so far.
  2. I just got into bowhunting last year. Started out with a casual conversation with a friend whom is real big into archery. He called me up one day last spring and found a NIB 2008 model Bowtech off a message board. Between my friend's knowledge of bows and the reputation of this guy I bought it for less than half of new. I know you don't want to piece you bow together, but I found it to be half the fun and learned quite a bit about bows in the process. When all is said and done, I have about $500 for bow, sight, rest, stabilizer, arrows, shooting block, etc. in a pretty nice setup. Now that I'm getting more into the sport and better at shooting, I'm already looking at upgrading arrows (went with decent ones since I figured I would lose a few) and maybe next year changing out my sight. Good luck to a fun and addicting sport. I just about prefer to use my bow than a gun.
  3. Similar recipe here: Cut up backstraps into cubes Marinate in Italian Dressing overnight Lowrey's Seaon Salt and a Meat Rub from a local Butcher Ship Wrap in Bacon Make kabobs with Green Peppers and Onions Throw on grill then serve. A couple times year we will do kabob night with backstraps and wild turkey in Italian Dressing. Both are excellent!
  4. I've never actually hunted them per say, but have been known to pick one off with my .308 while deer hunting :gun_bandana: I did mess up and passed on a black coyote last year as I thought it was a dog. Someone hunted my stand a few days later and killed it and sure enough it was a coyote.
  5. Still practicing with it as I just got it setup last week. '08 Bowtech Commander (29.5"/65#) Whisker Biscuit Sword Sabre Sight Apex Stabilizer Carbon Express Arrows Rage 2-Blades
  6. Bought my first bow: a new-in-box '08 Bowtech Commander. All I need now is a sight and arrows and I'm ready to shoot. A little late to be starting this year I guess, but it should still be fun.
  7. Friday did a little grilling and took my girlfriend's little girl fishing. Saturday we loaded up the truck and boat and headed to Lake Barkley and finished off the weekend with Drunken Chickens at my parents house. Great weekend!
  8. That sounds like my ex-girlfriend. My current girlfriend told me the other day that she would be mad at me if I didn't go to my family's annual dove hunt which is on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. I was thinking about skipping it and us going boating but she's not hearing it
  9. Nice pics! I need to put a trail cam out by my apple trees in the side yard. There were 17 deer around them the other night when I came home. All does and fawns though
  10. I love my Benelli Nova. Looked at the SuperNova but the advantages did not outweigh the cost difference to me. Great guns for the money.
  11. I fall into the school of thought with backwoods07 in that its more in stand placement and add in a little luck. I know its easy to get caught up in advertising hoopla and think you purchased some "magical potion" that will send all the big bucks your way in droves but there is no surefire method to seeing deer. There are days I see a ton of deer in my stand and there are many a days where I see zero. My school of thought on scents, scent cover-up, etc. is you are not investing a whole lot of money and it will probably benefit you more than it will harm you and there are no guarantees its going to bring me any success.

    This Means WAR...

A buddy of mine's lake house had bats living in the chimney this summer. That's another nuisance right there! I know what you mean on mice. I had a group living in my old hot rod a couple of years ago. Killed 23 in a 10x15 detached garage and pulled 2 nests out of the car. They were actually therapeutic to kill after they destroyed the interior to my car.
  13. We had an OSHA guy tear a new construction home we were working in apart. To make a statement for our area he found a way to write just about every sub-contractor up that was working in the home including us for a hand-rail violation (we are audio/video guys). I don't have a whole lot of good things to say about them but I guess they are that way for a reason and its in everyone's best interest.
  14. While I can't see the pic because of this lovely webfilter at work, I can only imagine it's a nice deer from everyone's comments; so congrats on a nice buck. As my grandfather used to and my uncle still tells me: "at least you got ya one this year". I know I for one and am sure not alone have gone a season or two without seeing a deer much less even killing one. A local non-hunting message board I'm on has a deer hunting thread where a couple of guys claim they pass up "130-140" deer because they aren't big enough. I know I'm just an average hunter from Western Kentucky, but I don't think I could sit still in the stand with excitement if one of those got within shooting range. Deer hunting to me is more about the experience and the fact you hunt with your family should be the best part. Or at least it is for me. Again congrats on the buck!
  15. I can attest to the quality of the Model 700. My deer rifle of choice is my late great uncle's .308 which him and my grandfather purchased matching rifles back before I was even born (I'm 32). My rifle has taken down countless animals including my 10 pointer this past opening day and shoots just as good as the day it was purchased.
  16. I try not to get in any later than 5:30. That's in Daviess, Co. KY. Yesterday around 5:40 a 3-ptr literally walked under my stand. I had only been there 20 min. Then my now 10-ptr walked out at 9:30. Contrats on the buck!
