Can I dry fire my .22 with used brass without it messing up the firing pin? Probably a stupid question just wondering if it could be an alternative to snap caps

Okay, so I think I am going to purchase a Fox Pro Spitfire. I was wondering what 24 sounds i should get? If it helps, there are a ton of cottontails, woodpeckers, squirrels, field mice, and deer around here. I got so far, Screamn Rabbit Bay Bee Cottontail Adult Cottontail Wailn Woodpecker Pup Screams Pup Distress 3

maybe my approach was wrong. i wasnt really calling all that much. i would call for like 30 seconds and wait for a while and repeat.

Hey guys, Thanks for your advice. Today i bought a johnny stewart pc-3 and it is awesome. It requires very little air to blow and it is easy to use. It sounds just how I want it to. I also bought the Primos Ki-Yi and the Hot Dog

Okay.. so Ive been having problems with my rabbit distress call. Ive went out a few times where Ive seen coyotes before and havent got any to answer so far. :bang: I think it is because my call isnt raspy when i blow on it. It is a cedar hill cottontail distress closed reed. It sounds raspy when i turn it around and suck in however, but then i cant control the pitch as well as i would like.:bang: Any tips on getting the right sound (and calling sequences) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God bless

Best Sounds for the Eastern Coyote
yotewannabe replied to yotewannabe's topic in Varmint & Predator Hunting
Thanks for your help. Out in the country, here, at night the coyotes sing every night. And on occasion, the dog wants out to join the chorus. Have you had any experience with woodpecker distress calls? Btw, just an interesting story, i was deer hunting the other day and i heard like a crying noise. My first instinct told me it was a child then i thought to myself that it could be a bobcat or something. That went on for maybe 30 secs and then out of the blue came two gray foxes. I ended up killing both of them. I found myself fascinated by the fact that the foxes came SO quickly to the sound. From that point on, i have wanted to go predator hunting really bad. -
Okay, so soon (after deer season, of course) my buddy and I are going to start coyote hunting. I was wondering, for eastern coyotes, what would be the best sounds to use. I know cottontail distress, because those rascals..erm... wascals are everywhere, here. I am most likely going to make Varmint Al's el cheapo coyote call (im too cheap to buy a real one.) So i was wondering what sounds to download. Thanks Oh! And I live in the South if that helps.

A friend of mine has the model 200 in .22-250 and it is a beast. i shot 3 shots basically in the same hole at 200 yards with Hornady 55 grn bullets. And at $275 dollars you cant ask for a better value. I love the trigger on it, also. If ammo price is a concern, .223 will be a little less than .22-250 but IMO the .22-250 makes up in performance. Merry Christmas and God Bless

a .257 roberts would also be a good choice. the ammo probably would be a little more expensive though
-
a 130 grn core lokt bullet drops approximately 42" at 500. (out of my 22 inch barrel anyway)
-
I love my .270 and it is my primary hunting rifle. Last november i dropped a nice 8 pointer in his tracks at 250 yards with remington 130 grn core lokt. I had a perfect rest though. In my opinion, shot placement is key. I think a .270 will humanely kill a deer at 400 yards IF you can hit it in the vitals. And you need a good rest to shoot off of. everything is magnified at that distance so that if you flinch or move even a tiny bit, you are at a risk of missing or worse, wounding and not recovering an animal. Just putting my two cents in. Merry Christmas and God Bless

Thanks guys

Thanks alot. Can I still attach a sling if i mount my bipod to the sling stud?

So, I want to get a bipod for my Remington 700 SPS. I am looking at the Shooters Ridge Deluxe Bipod. Has anybody had any experience with it? Also, are Shooters Ridge Bipods any better than Harris Bipods? Im new to bipods and ease of use is definately a factor. Thanks for your time

Does anybody on this forum own a shooter's ridge deluxe bipod? im thinking about getting one for my remington 700 sps .270. If you've had any experience with one, please let me know how you like it. I've heard that they are a cheaper clone of harris bipods.

Excuse my butting in, but i think without considering the price, a Remington Model 700 VS SF II would do nicely. Others may argue, but in my opinion, the Remington 700 is the best hunting rifle out there. Period. Hornady makes some good factory ammunition if you dont reload. Hope that helps. Keep us updated on your coyote kills.

What howling call do you guys recommend?
yotewannabe replied to yotewannabe's topic in Varmint & Predator Hunting
I like it so far. At least when i blow on it the neighbor's dogs start to howl... so maybe thats a good sign LOL. I mean I dont have experience with coyote calls so i cant tell you really how it compares to others. Its pretty easy to use. I'll let you know if i get one to howl. out in the country they howl everywhere at night so maybe ill join in haha -

Thanks, i live in the heart of the south so it's not cold. Are open reeds much harder than closed reeds? Also, while I'm at it, my distress call is closed reed and im having trouble getting my screams to sound raspy. the only way i can get it to sound like the real thing is by insted of blowing in it, i suck in the opposite end. If i do it that way, it works pretty well. -
Hey guys. Im new to coyote hunting. (In fact I've never killed one) I have a cottontail distress call but i was also wondering which howler call to buy. I've been looking at a Knight and Hale Hecklin' Howler call. Has anybody had any experience with it?
