  1. I'm considering a move to Marshall County, Kentucky. I am wondering how hunting land is divided up there? Are there hunting clubs to join like here in Bama? I know the seasons are all mixed up, with archery running throughout the whole time and opnly a short rifle season. Could anyone fill me in on the usual practice for getting access to land? Thanks!
  2. My thoughts exactly, this is a no brainer, put some water out there and they will come.
  3. Last year I got a "Fatal Attraxion" call from Stoney. He did a great job, and it sounds awesome. Check him out. http://fatalattraxion.com/ Also, I really like the "Chuck and Purr Pot" from Woodhaven calls. http://www.woodhavencustomcalls.com/index.asp But my usual go to call is my Primos Freak. It's the glass one, sounds great! Good luck!
  4. I took a friend of mine and he shot a small buck we'd been watching. He hadn't killed a buck, so we didn't mess with him too much. Here's the before and after pictures.
  5. Here in Central Alabama we're starting our rut. Action is picking up alot. Seeing bucks in the daylight. Our season runs till the end of Jan. 2 deer per day one of which can be a buck, but only three bucks a season, and one has to have 4 points on one side. It's the honor system here too.
  6. That's a buck of a lifetime! Congratulations!
  7. Our bucks are finally moving in the daytime. I feel like the rut is either starting or very close to it. I saw a really good rack about 150 yards away today. Wish I could have got a shot. Hope you are all well. Trae
  8. I had a good morning. Went ahead and took two does for the freezer. Maybe a buck shows up next time! 100 lbs. and 110 lbs. pretty good sized does for our area.
  9. Our team thread had been sent to the back of the line. Hope everyone is having a good season. Merry Christmas. Our deer are starting rutting activity. A few scrapes and rubs here and there. Some time in the next two weeks should be the magic time for Central Alabama.
  10. That's good stuff! Congrats!
  11. Great buck! I'd guess about 142?
  12. I'm from South Alabama, both those weeks are gonna be good. If it were me I'd wait till the 14th.
  13. This post is my opinion... I've had land and hunted every part of "The Great State" (which is Alabama) and there is a lull at this time of the year every year. Up north they have an October lull. Here we have a December lull. It's usually the first two weeks of December. Now this is not a hard and fast rule. I even saw an older aged buck chasing a doe today. A buddy saw the same but it was a young buck. Both in Tuscaloosa County. And we have no White oak acorns around here, some red oak acorns, but our food plots are getting tore up. A "lull" is broken by the rut. We are going to have a great rut this year and it will be earlier than usual, today I found the first scrapes and rubs that I have seen. If your south of me, your rutting activity will be a little later, if your north it will be sooner. Hang in there. And plan to hunt the week after Christmas, and the first week of January. It will be good.
  14. My camera had a few pics of a young 8 point. Maybe I can get him moving in the daylight! (Time is incorrect on the camera). I had one behind me today, but no chance of a shot.
  15. Very cool for her first! Let her know we all think she's awesome! I hope my girl will get out there with me when she's old enough. Congrats on a great hunt!
  16. We're finally about to have some consistent cold weather down here in Bama. Hope get a chance to go some this week. Congrats to you guys who have been successful!
  17. Great Deer! Congratulations!!!
  18. My brother and dad love the 308. It's the only caliber they will use for deer. I have always used the .270 but obviously the .308 has great knock down power, and is extremely effective.
  19. Well I've had a tough bow season. Not much to say. We caught a guy putting corn out in a powerline on our place, close enough to a road that he could shoot over it. It was about 200 yds from one of my favorite bow stands. Now I know why I had so many pictures there! I'm giving the bow one more shot this week, Thursday and Friday, then the guns come out on Saturday. I expect the full moon to mess with the deer movement, but we can adjust! Have you guys heard this saying: "if the wind is out of the north then venture forth...if the wind is out of the west then thats the best... if the wind in out of the south then dont go out... if the wind is out of the east then they will move the least" Seems to be true in my experience. How bout you?
  20. Weather has been tough down here in Bama. We're getting some rain today, but it's been dry. I shot a doe yesterday, but I must have hit her a little forward, and didn't recover her after looking for 4 hours through the woods. Hope to try again Friday.
  21. Oh no! I hope you find him. I hate it when that happens but it is just gonna happen sometimes. You got a good dog? Let us know how it ends up. I've seen does everytime I go, but haven't had the right situation to shoot. It's either too dark, too far, or too something else. I'll keep at it. Good luck guys.
  22. Going out tomorrow and Saturday. Good job on taking that yote! I try to kill everyone of them I see. My son and I saw a nice buck walking around the other day, hope to catch him in that area this weekend.
