Our representatives are in the process of bending us over hard and putting their vote in favor of a CITES I listing for bluefin tuna? I wonder if any of these 'FISHERIES EXPERTS' has even gone fishing for tuna? Some of the schools of fish that we saw in 2009 were so large that we couldn't see the other side of them! Imagine standing on the roof of your boat and seeing MILES of tuna breaking out of the water at the same time! This is what we witnessed in 2009. A CITES I listing means that the fish is threatened with extinction! It is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. Seeing schools of fish was not just a Massachusetts event. There were similar reports from Maine, NH, RI, NY, NJ, and further south! I could talk all day about this one, just venting. I'll be out there fishing for them starting in June. Furthermore, I'll be tagging every released fish. We found lots of 5-6 year old fish that were pregnant, flying in the face of "western atlantic tuna don't spawn until 10-12 years old". That is a myth kindled by the environmentalists trying to ban all fishing and hunting! Rich

It's that time of year....our cod season on Cape Cod (Stellwagen Bank) opens up on Tax Day (April 15th) this year. We can't wait. We'll be out there fishing with really light tackle this year...it's so much more fun than using 17 oz norwegian jigs or 20 oz sinkers. In most instances, we're using 5 or 7 oz Stingo-fish PBJ jigs on 24# Tuf-Line braid....and fluke-sized Okuma combos. We haven't been overmatched yet and we're all laughs while fishing. If you haven't tried it yet, I have two months to talk about it, so drop me a line. For those of you who can't get a foursome together, I run shared charters and will find you people to fish with. Our spring cod fishing isn't about size, most fish are 6-15 pounds, but we get great numbers of haddock in shallow water (normally, the haddock are 200-400' deep). It's a rush and a half seeing a fish that big hit a surface lure. I can't wait until they arrive again.

Normally, I'd ask to see photos, but, Nova Scotia. I don't need to see photos...LMAO. The step up from the 180's to the 300's is a big step on spinning gear. It can be done, but it's exponentially larger. A few of the big boys hit our surface lures this year and it was ugly. We held on for 4+ hours one day on a mid-to-high 80's fish. Another 90+ fish hit a surface lure AT THE BOAT and took all of 32 seconds to clean my reel bare. Do you guys get the school fish up there? What sizes are they? Last year we finally had good mixing of sizes (40"-70" and inclusive of the year classes inside). This year should be great as there'll be lots of saleable 73"+ fish and loads of fun 50-60" fish to catch.

Hi Everyone, If you're thinking about a challenge for 2010, think about trying to catch one of the bluefin tuna that have been all over Cape Cod for the past several years. In 2009, most of the fish that we caught were between 62-69" long....140-190 pounds. Many captains up here troll for them, or use live bait...Some cast poppers and jig for them... Hi Guys, The more I get into hunting, the more I relish the hunting aspects of fishing. I was thinking the other day about shark fishing...essentially, it's the same thing as hunting, but you get to do it all day, shark after shark. We mainly do catch-and-release in Massachusetts because we don't eat blue sharks, but...the makos.... If those things roamed the woods I'd believe the arguments for automatic weapons!
