Scent Control Research (Need your help)
Osceola Slayer replied to Team Realtree's topic in Bowhunting
Scent control is a lot simpler than people (and advertising) make it (and I depend on the sales). First thing, is nothing else matter is the wind isn't right. You can do anything you want and spend 45 minutes at the truck digging your stuff out of a carbon container if it makes you feel more confident. Fact of the matter is the two things you want to do is make sure your wind direction is right, and spray down with a good product to try to get that extra couple steps you may need to get a deer in range. We sell everything, a good base layer and keeping your clothes clean and bagged, and spraying down is going to do the most your going to get away with (I can hear sponsors withdrawing contracts already). IMHO, don't waste a ton of money, weather.com it hour by hour and get you wind right, and you could smell like a landfill and the deer will not pick you up. My opinion after 20 years, and 150 days a year in the woods. Not saying I'm a pro, but beware of the hype. The decision is whether your intrested in the logos on your gear, or killing deer. (All respect to everyone, just my opinion) we sell all of it. Whatever your confidant in is what works, everytime. -
It's a heavy arrow for your setup at 55. It will however keep your bow quiet, and if you generally shoot 30 yards and in, shoot what you feel comfortable with. If I was you I would go to a lighter arrow, and maybe even an 85g broadhead. You'll get more speed, and be able to get out a little further if you confidant to do so. Stay above ibo (5g per lb) aim for 6-7 for speed, 10 for comprimise speed/sound. The 27.5" draw will allow you to use less spine, without any damage considerations. If you shooting 29+ that's when it will come more into play. Sorry to hear about your shoulder, hope all is/goes well.

I shoot bow Luminoks and Nockturnals. Nockturnals have an advantage, the switch that allows you to turn them off immed. is very easy to use, and re-use. I like them, I've put about 12 hogs to sleep with em in the last couple months and they performed great. The price of luminoks is crazy (mostly because of the people they pay and advertising), but they are a good reliable nock. The nockturnals are great, and a slight cheaper, and I find them easier to reuse. IMHO.

home-made stabilizer...I need some ideas
Osceola Slayer replied to forced2workborn2fish's topic in Bowhunting
Whoa! I would never suggest you make your own stab unless you have great experience (or work at sims or fuse). You can get a sims or fuze stab anywhere from $15 and up, and they'res no way you're going to make anything close to the performance IMHO (all respect). You can have it delivered to your door through Cabela's or any online retailer, and you can also check ebay and get some good deals. If you want to make your own stab do it, but get another from Cabela's or somewhere you can return it if you don't like it. But I can almost guarantee you will. There's a reason they put so much R&D into their stuff, it works. I remember when simms first came out with the limbsaver original, the simms rep came by the shop and showed it to os, we thaught he was high. He went out to his van and got an aluminum baseball bat, and I immed. unlatched the holster on the Kimber I wear at the shop (habit when I see any weapon). He comes in goes to the range and dropped the bat from 4 ft in the air, it was loud. He put an original limbsaver on the on base of the handle and repeated the process. It cut the noise by 75%. We bought 40 sets on site. The rest as we say is history.:clap: -
Like you said, somebody like em. They're selling the crap out of em, I think something like 75k to date, so somethings got to be right. But I'm in the same boat, I can get a bow that I like alot better, is alot faster, for a little over half the money. But the matrix will be tweaked for next year, and I think everyone will like it better, There also working hard on getting the price point lower. Just FYI.

You can control the hand shock, which I didn't think was so bad by doing 2 things, first off add 50 grains to the arrow your shooting, and control your form. The only part of your bow hand you want contacting the grip is your upper curl on your hand, and a light wrap with your thumb. You won't might not feel any hand shock after that. If you shoot to light an arrow, any bow is going to have hand shock, you just have to get used to it (if you like the bow) or go to a slower bow or a heavier arrow if it makes you uncomfortable, but your form should correct it. IMHO.

I respect everyone. Believe me 19 days in a coma and 45 days in rehab has changed my out look on life. Much respect Muggs. However, I'm a born and bred southern boy, I shoot from the hip, and if I offend anyone, let me know, and I'll knock it off. But as far as the debate, if I think you're lost, I'll let you know. Being I attend every home Gator's game, I don't think they'res anyone who's seen Tebow in action more than I have, and I know his capabilities, so I am going to debate the subject. We'll see how it goes. No offense to anyone though, don't make it like we're fist fighting, that's one of the things I do not like about a forum, they'res always someone ready to pop-off like they own the place. All due respect, really. Halfway to Heaven...

Home Made Lighted Nocks NEW DESIGN !!
Osceola Slayer replied to DaveHawk's topic in Hunting Equipment
Agreed. Also agreed on making your own knocks, like I tell everyone, confidance in the stand is the number one thing to making a good shot. If you confidant in you knocks, nothing else matters. I just have to have the same confidance, because believe it or not, at dusk when you shoot a great buck, finding the arrow is the most important thing to making the decision on the recovery. I can't have nocks I need to worry whether they're going to stay lit or not, guys must be pretty good at making their on knocks. Take care. -
I own it, it's the best woods gun ever, quiet to roll the barrel from one round to another, depending on what your shooting. I just got the new winchester .410px's, and their ridicolous. Now they're won't be anymore changing loads, this covers everything. From hogs at 20 yards to snakes, varmints, other things that surprise me, even waiting on a bear to try it out. 3 discs, and full of bb's. At some sick FPS. Nice. The judge I consider inaccurate for any kind of long range shooting. But, if your good with it, and can do it, kill em all. Take care.

Home Made Lighted Nocks NEW DESIGN !!
Osceola Slayer replied to DaveHawk's topic in Hunting Equipment
Just to jump back on topic for a second, if you want to save yourself some money and use something you can depend on, I have used Nockturnal Nocks boar hunting here, and after 10 or so smackdowns, haven't had a problem. They have a killer switch, and they always light up and are easy to turn off. I am in no way affiliated with Nockturnal Nocks, just passing on info. Building your own nocks, even for pros, is kind of a misnomer. Having such a weight and flight effect on your arrow, I would rather have something I have total confidance in. Dont get me wrong, I also use luminoks, but only what I have left. I'm buying nockturnals from now on. IMHO. -
Your not going to use enough oil to cause a problem attracting dirt or dust, unless you live in Iraq, or use your bow to pole your duck boat through the timber. We use outers odor free in the shop, works great. Anything's fine from remoil to dead down wind. Your not going to use enough oil to cause a scent problem, and if your that crazy about scent, use no stinkin guns oil, it's absolutely to most non-scented I've ever smelled. You only need a drop, and on each side of the cam/idler, and if you have a roller guard, 1/2 drop if you can, and run a dozen shots through it. If your oil get's you busted, it wasn't your oil. Also, if you have a bow that's not more than 2 years old, I don't recommend oiling it unless you see (or hear) a reason to. There's plenty from the factory on any quality bow to last even longer than that. IMHO. :jaw:

What was your favorite bow you ever owned?
Osceola Slayer replied to joeaveragehunter's topic in Hunting Equipment
Tears came to my eyes reading all these, I remembered like my first 20 bows all over again. Working in a bow shop I have been blessed with owning a ton of bows, but all the old bows I've had can't hold a candle to the bows we have today. I currently shoot a Mathews Monster, and my die-hard Bowtech General as backup. 70lbs on both, 365g on both. I have shot 17 deer with the bowtech over the last 3 seasons (thanks to does that like corn), 5 bucks. Shot 6 with the monster last season, biggest 100" 8pt. Best season was hunting Jersey, believe it or not, and a Bowtech Patriot, 10 deer with the bow, 1 with the shotgun. Get r done. Needless to say, We like Venison. -
Intresting.. I have found it intresting reviewing the posts in this forum, I always hear alot of different views, and with the exception of what bow you shoot, the broadhead is one of the most highly contested subjects. After 20 years of working on bows, I have heard alot, and shot a ton, I would say over 100 easy deer, with all kinds of different broadheads. It basically always has, and always will, come back to a Muzzy. 90% of the hunters (and when I say hunters I'm only talking the guys spending 50+ days a year in the woods) are usually trying the new greatest broadheads, but almost always end up using Muzzys. The number one thing is this, not matter how tuned your bow is or who did it, if it's crackerized, you need to shoot your broadheads and adjust accordingly. If your shooting field tips, and you assume a rage or other advertised product is going to "hit's the same as field tips", your wrong, most of the time. Any broadhead changes arrow flight, even the tightest expandables. So what I always recommend is you buy a broadhead target (or pick up pieces of your block after every practice session), and get a pack of the broadheads your going to use, and tune your bow to the broadhead. Once you do, your good, and your confidance will be alot higher than believing the commercial. Having experimented with everything, hypershocks to slick tricks, to rages, to naps, to magnus's, I can tell you that if you want a reliable, affordable, and guaranteed to kill broadhead (as long as you make the shot), then use Muzzys. I always recommend them to everyone who asks, and I in no way make anything or get anything from muzzy except what I buy. I am asked to recommend broadheads, and bows and all other accessories constantly at the shop, and I can tell you everyone wants everything they've seen on tv, but inveriably comes back and get's muzzy's, I stopped saying I told you so a long time ago when I lost my voice from it. 100gr 4-Blades seem to fly the best out of a fast bow 290+ 100gr 3-Blades have wider cut radius, and stabilize the arrow a little better at slower speeds, those are our 2 best selling broadheads. The MX3 and MX4 are ok, and unless your going after elk or moose, sticking with 100gr is the norm. And remember the most important part of the bowshot, the exit. I don't care if the arrow goes in the ham if there's a hard quarter and your shooting a ton of kinetic energy, as long as you get up in the goodie, your good. Always, always, thing the exit. Too many people focus on the entrance and dont take into consideration the quartering etc, and I have spent many days and nights trying to help people find deer hit bad, and thats been the number one problem. Dont worry about the crease if the deer isnt broadside, you want to see your broadhead going through vitals, from where ever it enters. Rambling.. Bottom line.. hey dudes, I'm with you, I shoot Muzzys. :toot:

NO DOUBT. Passing on Barry Sanders when they had the stats and film to know very well how ridicolous he was, well, was just Stupid. I can remember watching that draft with my Dad, and he about crapped when they selected Tony, everyone KNEW their pick was Barry. They lost their butt on that one. However, they've done quite well since, so I don't feel so bad for them. A good ol boy named Farve pulled em out everntually. By the way, there was a BUNCH of people who thaught Farve wasn't any good. Wonder if their here now conversating about Tebow. :gunsmilie:

Hmmm.. that comment intrests me greatly. I was just wondering, do you have any idea of Vicks's stats with Atlanta? I trust you will review them, and then edit your comment. His passing percentage was very high compared to all other quarterbacks, and just because he faught dogs, he's in the doghouse. I don't quite know what planet this thread is on, but here on earth, we notice good quarterbacks and don't just jump on the bandwagon when someone does something stupid. I will not argue wether or not Tebow will be an MVP. I will however argue, that people MUCH smarter than you or I have made the decision that he is worth the pick. In seeing streamed practices, I have to agree. The fact that they would openly advertise him to compete for the starting posistion before he ever stepped on the field, has to mean something. All I know, is that there is not arguement he was/is one of the greatest college quarterbacks ever (heismans and stats prove it, and did I mention the championships?) I live in Jacksonville, and have followed Tebow from Neese high school locally. Even then, people knew he was going to be huge. Spikes visited Alabama during recruitment with Tebow, and when asked where he was going to school, Spikes answered wherever he is. Now, let's do your research on Spikes, see if his word's worth anything. :pop: Vick is :offtopic: so we'll go with Tebow. If nothing else, you will see that the move was Terrible for Jacksonville. Jax had the opportunity, and passed. Garrard will lead the team out of Jacksonville. Simple. Ticket sales are crap, have been for years, and just having Tebow on the roster, jag's cfo extrapulated 5000 season tickets sold immed. That, not Denver, was a stupid move. Jags had plenty to get what they needed defensively, but coming upon a quarterback, much less a good one, is not easy. The next NFL season will be the judge. I will definatly be back to conversate after we see a few pre-season games, and see how many edits of this thread there are. God Bless.

Dude, don't get any of that blood on me. One more bump on the head and you'll be a Georgia fan. :gunsmilie:

I'm going with you bumped your head and are still bleeding. :argue:

Bucks a freggin GANGSTER. And don't listen, the U.P. and alot of Michigan still has some monster bucks. :jaw:

An old PA trick. 35mm canister, turn upside down poke small hole in bottom, put small twine through tie knot on end pull back to hole. Will hold canister upside down. Fill canister tightly with cotton balls, then scent and cap. You can leave these in the field if you hunt the same stands often by capping them on the way out, and opening them on the way back in. Never really used them myself, but alot of guys swear by this technique, esp using dom buck and doe esterous in different containers/areas. I personally drag line, or more often than not prefer to throw scent bombs out from the stand, gettem when I leave, makes alot less noise getting in then all the moving and noise of putting them up.
-
Great Taxidermy Work, and one heck of a deer. What memories are made of. I've only seen 3 piebalds in the wild in 20 years, 2 in PA. Great Deer.

Try Fuse's stabilizers, make sure it's rigged with Limbsavers, and your arrow weight is fine, if it's 367 without including the nock, insert, vanes and glue, your over 400. I'd have to hear the bow, but it's the recoil making noise somewhere. Take it to a shop and let them check it out. Without actually hearing it, I can't tell you if it's normal, but the TR2's are not known to be incredibly quiet. Hope this helps.

Mid-range bows are easy. Stay in a pro shop, and not a box store. Look at Hoyt's Hawk line, Bowtech's Soldier, Mathews Mission Series, etc. A pro can help alot and let you shoot alot of diffent bows, we deal with it every day. Be careful with the Ross's, a buddy currently owns a CR331, and it's a great bow, but the warranty is out of the question, Bowtech or Quest are not going to warranty bows they didn't manufacturer, and any Ross you buy now is warranty void since there are no licensed retailers. IMHO
-
I've shot it, it's a great bow. $1500? No. In fact, my dealer's retail is way lower than that, but that's neither here nor there. If you like it and want it, it's the best Hoyt makes (all around). Alphamax mid-upper range, Hawk's are great bows for the money. All in what your wife will allow you to spend. It is however cool to see all bow manu's innovating to the fullest. Mathews, Bowtech, PSE with the Omen and Supershort, Hoyt, everybody's one upping each other. I currently shoot a DXT and General, but currently usually changes about every other week. (Sorry Mindy, McDonald's for Dinner)

Yeah, can't resist. There is not a quarterback in the NFL since Michael Vicks's glory days that can bust d-lines and run fullback like Tebow. You will see the talent, matter of time, and God's Will. Money says he win's the starting posistion, which they've already publically released as a solid option. No one works harder, leads better, or has an overall collective skill level and following than Tim Tebow. Period. Again, please don't taze me, just MHO. - Osceola SLAYER DEERFEAR.COM

Yeah.. Umm.. If you've watched any Florida games, the answer to that question is simple. Even simpler if you watched the combines and pro workouts. Denver made their best move ever, IMHO, and keep in mind alot of people are Tebow hater's because they couldn't beat Florida, and there was definatly a reason for that. Being a die hard member of the Gator Nation, you'll understand my knowledge of his abilities, just as I would also take into serious consideration your knowledge of Ohio State or Nebraska, if you were alumni of said Colleges. Don't taze me bro. -Osceola SLAYER DEERFEAR.COM
