  1. awsome man, I know what you mean about those squirrels. Damn things get annoying sometimes lol. Very nice buck, congrats:soda:
  2. Thx everyone doesn't anyone know how old this one may be around?
  3. Well after switching from my old spot to a new one I found last week, I finally got my treestand set up on sunday. I set out my game camera on a tree right in front of a scrape that very same day and haven't checked it since. I was suppose to go hunting wednesday morning but the weather was pretty bad here. I was pretty disappointed but I checked the weather for today and it looked good. So I woke up at 6 and my dad decided to come out also, we left at 6:30 and got to my spot at 7 right when it started getting bright outside. My dad sat on a falling log and leaned on a tree. I brought a camo carp I got yesterday and put that around him as a blind. I then went up in my treestand and got ready. I realized I should have got my game camera but said oh well, I'd get it after when it was time to go. So there we were, my dad was 10yards behind watching a trail and I was watching the main intersectiong of a bunch of trails. I gave a few grunt calls, trying to sound like a buck was chasing a doe. Waited awhile and nothing, I then gave a doe bleat and then some buck grunts again. Waited awhile and nothing, I gave just a doe bleat and waited awhile, nothing again. My dad came over and said he was walking back to the car which was about 150yards away cuz he was getting to cold. I said alright, he then said he would drive down the road and shoot the .22 (he had in the car) a few times and see if he can scare any deer toward me from the right side of me. As he was ready to leave I grabbed my fake antlers I had and thought I would give rattling a try. As my dad was leaving I rattled and gave grunts a few times while I did it and then grunted some more when I was done. I waited about five minutes until I couldn't hear my dad walking through the bush anymore, I then rattled for a second time but shorter and grunted. This time once I was done rattling I grunted, wheezed and waited 5 minutes and gave a few do bleats. about 10 minutes later I heard my dad shoot the .22, it was hard to hear, I only heard one shot. At the same time I thought I better get my gun ready. I then decided to look to my left where there was an opening and a trail, I kept thinking I'd most likely see a deer come through there. As I turned to look down that way I seen some movement. For a split second I seen the deer antlers and the deers head, I took the safety off and got ready. It was hard to see him as he was about 50yards away behind some bush, he then walked on to that open path but got behind a big birch tree that was 20 yards away from me. I just kept looking at his big body trying to get a good shot, I didn't care about the antler size. I was getting ready to take the long shot with no scope on my 30-30. I was waiting for him to walk out to the right of the big birch but as he walked I couldn't see him anymore, I leaned left and right abit to try and see where he was, I leaned more on the left side and seen him walking toward me for that big birch. I was excited, I was ready and aiming, he was right at the birch 20 yards away and made a right turn towads the scrape where my game camera was. In excitement I tryed blowing on my grunt call which was on my arm, but couldn't get it to face me so I can make a grunt lol stupid that I was I forgot I could have grunted with my mouth lmao. So after failing at grunting at him aimed and fired as he was walking pretty fast. I got him as he was broad side. He jumped up and started trotting off, I was calm and relaxed and watched him run off. I sat there quitely and calm and thought about what just happend. I started second guessing myself thinking " did I get a good shot" or " did I miss?" After about 45 minutes, felt like only 10mins I said quietly I need to celebrate lol, I quietly said yess! I got my first deer. I got down from my treestand slowly and walked over quielty and slowly where the deer came from. I found a new deer trail and seen there was a a little opening with a couple scrapes, rubs and trails heading right. I got lucky the deer turned and came toward me I thought. Then again maybe he was going to the scrape since I sprayed it with doe estrus a few days ago. I seen my dad at my treestand and walked over and said got him! he said really? we looked at where I shot him and there was no blood. I walked about 10 feet to where he was going and there was a lot of blood on the ground. We started following it and there was a big blood trail. About 10 yards in we finally found him WOW!!! I said, it was a big 8 point and it was my FIRST deer ever! and first time hunting deer. I couldn't believe how big he was, I thought he might have been small cuz I only took a quick glance at his antlers at a distance and forgot all about it. I just worried about my shot. It was an exciting day and I still have a smile on my face I will never forget this day ever. P.S I grabbed my game camera and looked to see if I got pics of any deer. Sure enough I got these from last night. A small 8 point and the big one, I think thats the one I got this morning. There as more pics but I didn't want to post them all. lol
  4. Does anyone believe in moon phase when it comes to deer hunting? I'm new to this but I've been reading a few articles on it that seem interesting. If you do believe in the moon phase when deer hunting, what is the moon phase for this week and what times would you suggest going out hunting for deer?
  5. awsome deer, great job on hunting nice buck also.
  6. I got some new footage of a doe at night at my hunting spot and then a young buck in the morning on my game camera. I did some hunting yesterday morning at my spot but got nothing, on the way out my dad and I seen a doe on the trail about a 100 yards away. I shot it and thought it was going to drop right there but it got enough energy to to get up and run. My dad drove up right away to where I hit it and let our little pug dog out as he brought him for a ride. Pretty crazy our little pug sniffed the doe trail and followed it right away. My dad went a different way thinking thats the way the doe went, I thought my dog was going to run away cuz it was his first time in the bush so I called the dog as it was way in the bush and I started following which way the dog went. I then looked down thinking maybe he found a blood trail and sure enough he did. I was pretty surprised thinking that a pug could never do that lol so we followed the blood trail for awhile and then it went dead we looked around for awhile but nothing, I didn't want to give up so I kept looking around longer, going back to the last blood spot, but nothing. I hate to see something like that happen but it happens to the best of us. On the other hand, trying to look for that doe she led us to a more active and AWSOME hunting spot then my original. The one I'm hunting in now only had some deer dropping, no scrapes or anything, but this spot had scrapes EVERYWHERE! There was deer droppings left and right, scrapes on the ground everywhere and rubs everywhere also. It was a gold mine, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was my first time actually seeing a real scrape & rub from a deer, great signs of bucks going through. I found a nice used up rub on a tree, it was a really big rub compared to the others and it looked more used, hoping it was a sign of a big buck I put my camera on a nearby tree facing the rub. Hopefully I get some great images I'm going to be moving my treestand today or sometime this upcoming week. Anyone have any success?
  7. awsome, I went out yesterday but heard or seen nothing at all. This week is suppose to be very nice weather. Today is REALLY beautiful out, its calm and warm out, hopefully I can make it out tomorrow.

    Pumpkins

lol thats cool, it's a really beautiful day out today. I should have went hunting today but oh well, maybe the deer will be moving around a lot and I'll get them on camera eating the pumpkin seeds. I hope nothing else eats it lol.
  11. that's some good information thanks Today I just went out to my spot to dump the pumpkin guts and to put my treestand up. On the way in I noticed on the trail I take to my spot there was tracks about a day old and some deer droppings everywhere. Pretty awsome to see some sign like that, I also tryed making a mock scrape so hopefully I get something on camera. I'm thinking of going out this weekend if I can make it out.

    Pumpkins

I just finished carving pumpkins and realized deer would probably eat the insides of the pumpkin right?? I've going to put my treestand up tomorrow and my game camera and dump the insides of the pumpkin around my camera to see if I get any pics. I think it would be cool HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!:bat:
  13. awsome, thanks and thats cool. I'm going to try and make a mock scrape for the first time this year also, hopefully it works and I see some action. I haven't been out in the bush for about a week but I'm hoping to go in tomorrow. I want to get my treestand up and put out my camera again, then hopefully try some hunting next weekend or some time. Good luck to you all nd happy hunting
