  1. I try to do most of my scouting either during the season or right after. During the season I'll just observe where the deer mostly move. Such as which trails they often use, which direction they are coming from in the afternoon and going in the morning. Since I hunt close to someone elses property I try to see which escape routes they use from his property to ours.

Then right after season I put my leg work in. I'll look for scrapes and rubs then. See which trails are being used the most during the season. Never know what ya didn't get the chance to see from the stand! If its something truly good I'll write it down in my notes or keep it in mind til spring. Then if I'm gonna move any stands around I'll do it then. All summer the deer have the property to themselves. Atleast until I start using cameras too. Then I'll be checking them pretty often.

  2. I've been hunting on my family's land for years. Have taken a few bucks and countless does but I never imagined a big boy like this would be walking around our property. I'd got off work around 1 that afternoon. Rushed home and caught a quick power nap. Up and out the door by 2:30! Walking to my stand I noticed a really good set of fresh tracks heading to the adjoining field. Luckly for me this is the field I hunt in. I jumped in the ditch that seperates the two and made a "b" line to my stand. By 3 I was settled and eyes glued to the wheat field I was overlooking. When I first saw him I was dumb struck. Like a kid in a candy store. Then I realized he was walking towards the fence row. I made that lil noise that the pro guys use to no luck. Then I hollared out hey! That stopped him and my 300 Win Mag jumped on me. Luck was on my shoulder because he ran straight to me. Stopping only 20' under my stand. With crosshairs on his back I squeezed the trigger and he was down. With the help of a friend we loaded him on the fourwheeler and headed to the barn. My dad had pulled up and called me sayin you are tearing up my wheat with that fourwheeler. At that time I slowed down enough to pick his head up and dad said oh nevermind! This guy will be on my wall proudly displayed not as a trophy but as a memory! This is my Ramey Farms Buck!
