Just for the record her mom took her and coached her. She deserves the congrats. Way to go Mandy on keeping your daughter interested. -
Her time had finally come. And it was a long time coming. Olivia hadn't shown as much interest in hunting as her older sister had. We were starting to get a little worried that she would not share our passion in hunting. But that all changed last year. We were elated when she began asking us to take her hunting. And as all good parents do, we put down our guns and start guiding our children. Olivia put in many long hours in the woods last season and even took a shot at a doe. The excitement probably got the best of her as she closed her eyes as she pulled the trigger. It was a clean miss, but a dissapointment to her at the same time. We were worried that she might not want to hunt again. Her older sister Mady got to start hunting earlier in the season this year when she shot her first deer with a bow. Then she followed it up with another doe at the beginning of rifle season. That really got Olivia excited. She put in a few hunts with no luck. Then came the evening of November 5th 2011. I was the lucky one to be joining her that evening. We set up in the hunting hut and it wasn't long before she had dosed off. I let her sleep for a little while till I saw some movement. I woke her and pointed out the deer starting to cross the pasture in front of us. It was a couple of does and yearlings. A spike ran into the opening fron the other side of the field and chased the does off. I was really getting worried about the amount of daylight remaining and told her that we may need to pack it up and try the next night. She was really sad and upset that we would have to let them go. Suddenly the deer ran back in our direction and there was a doe within range. She really wanted to take the doe. I asked her to find it with her rifle and see if she could see her crosshairs through the scope. She said she could see her just fine and asked if she could take her. I gave her the go ahead and it wasn't a fraction of a second later and I saw the doe hit the ground through my binoculars. Olivia put the rifle down. I tried to control my excitement as I whispered "you got her baby". Olivia broke down in tears. I asked her what was wrong and she replied, " I am just so happy". She took the words right out of my mouth. I had been a part of my young daughter's first deer harvest. We recovered the 1.5 year old doe less than 75 yards from where she was hit. Olivia helped her father clean her first dear and requested that we have her made into jerky. As parents of 2 beautiful girls, we couldnt be happier that they share in our passion for the outdoors and hunting. We look forward to many more memoriable hours in the woods with them in the years to come. Congratulations Olivia! We love you and are so proud of you. Love, MOM

I'm seeing alot of threads from parents about their kids success. Come on guys show some support. It only takes a minute to post a congrats. As a father I can tell you the kids love to read comments from hunters around the country. My daughter took her first deer with a bow this year and I posted it here. Everyday she would come home from school and ask to look at her thread. It means alot to the kids and the parents so support our young hunters and give them a big slap on the back when you come across a thread about their success. Thanks

You get that kid to Georgia I'll get him a deer. My family is all about sharing are good fortune. We hold fishing tournaments every year at our property for disabled kids. Completely free. Actually its this weekend. Seriously not sure where u are but if you are ever near ga get in touch. We have hogs, deer and turkey.Good luck hope he gets his chance. -
Whats a shooter Its in the eye of the beholder. We manage our S. Ga land intensely. The realization is coastal deer just don't grow as big, body or antlers. Occasionally we get pics of mid 120 even had the very rare 130 about three years ago. I personally wont shoot a buck off the property unless I think he's a least 4 1/2. My kids and any other kid that has never shot a buck the rule is whatever that kid wants if they want to shot a spike or they can choose to hold out. Its family property only about three of us hunt it and our rule is 8 point or better. One free if you shoot another you have to mount it for the cabin. So if you are putting time and money into hunting land shoot whatever as long as your happy.

I have been a member for over ten years. My family owns 1000 acres in S Georgia and we have practiced what we have learned. It doesn't happen overnite but it definietly works. We went from seeing 1 buck for every 10-12 deer seen. Now they helped us even the ratio and now we are seeing almost as many bucks as we do does. With that comes better hunting and competitive breeding. They have branches all over just for that reason, to help and promote not only deer hunting but management of your land. Its cheap to join and the magazines are great. Send me your address and i will mail you some issues to sample. Give it a try it may payoff

As a father who has spent countless hours teaching our girls about hunting and the outdoors I am proud to report that my 11 year old daughter, Madeline harvested her first deer with her bow September 24th. The young doe slipped up and gave Madeline a 15 yard quartering away shot and she nailed it. My wife and I have had our kids in the woods since birth, literally. Mady has been rifle hunting since she was seven and has harvested a doe, a buck, a hog and wanted to start bow hunting. We bought her a Bow Tech Razor Edge and she was hooked. After practicing over a year she finally got her chance. We are so proud of her accomplishment. All the parents that spend time with their kids in the woods you know how I feel. If you have'nt had the experience of watching your son or daughters be successful be ready beacause everything about that day from the adrenaline shakes, the shot, and most importantly the look on your kids face will be etched in your mind forever. Sorry for the long thread just really proud of her. Good job Mady we love you.
