I saw a bull behind Black Mountain in a meadow Sat night 20 min before dusk. One of the guys I was hunting with saw it too even though I was closer and started moving to it and he saw him and took off. He was about 1000yds from me and heading in. It was a rough road to get there but great set up. So at least I saw one. It was perfect weather when I was leaving and saw 10 mule deer. Perfect area just tough to find the elk. Maybe next time.

Thanks Jeff. I will keep everyone posted and safe travels everyone. If I do get the truck fixed I will be in camp by 12 or so on Friday.

My truck Hydro locked today. Luckily it was best case scenario and will be fixed tomorrow. This is becoming the most expensive hunting trip ever. So I hope it gets fixed tomorrow if not anyone got an open tent spot. One ring and injector failed and they said rear break pads are becoming bad so they are doing those for me too. I will make this trip if I have to hitch hike there. See you guys soon.

I have a 29ft travel trailer and made it back ok. Just have to watch the ruts. After the first turn to the left stay to the right where the ruts get bad and you should have no problems.

The clearing before us there was a horse trailer and two campers. The trail head before our camp there was three horse trailers and 4 trucks. Over by tobacco lake there was 2 horse trailers and 2 trucks. There wasn't a ton but about what I thought there would be. Where we will be camping there was no one.

Saw 4 Cows South of Tobacco lake, Bear Tracks were in the Conejos Peak Bowl down by the creek. The other 7 where down on the road on the way out right at dusk by the first little town you come to. Right past a couple of hunters that just came out the woods. Saw a lot of sign up by tobacco lake. I want to talk to Steve first but I think Canon Bonito would be good area. Cant wait to get this started I started loading the second load of wood today. I have a PT test tomorrow I did not want to over do it.

Here is a picture of the wood I dropped off. I have another load about the same size. I have a couple stumps I have not cut up yet either. I might throw those on top. I also posted some pictures of a creek I crossed and some bear tracks I found. There was any where from 2" to 1' of snow up high. I saw 11 elk and 1 good bull.

NO worries Charlie about this weekend I am still taking a load down there and will tarp it and put a sign on it for Steve that says Team Realtree Camp Wood. I should have plenty of wood for at least two camps. I rather cook over open fire but propane is quicker. I will have at least two truck loads. I will bring my maul, chainsaw and ax if anyone thinks we will need it. I have a couple stumps I have not gotten through yet. I think the closest diesel is Antonito. I will fill up before getting there. Charlie is right about dragging if you take the right tracks you wont have any problems if you have a long trailer. The weather for opening day is 51 high and 27 low as of right now. Food I am brining homemade biscuits, chilli, and beef stew. I plan on bringing summer sausage and power bars to take out in the field.

I have a truck load of wood going down this weekend and have at least another for when I come down for the hunt. I can bring a couple extra chairs as well. I am bringing my trailer so if anyone needs to use the tub they are more then welcome. I will have a generator with 14gal of gas and 20gal of water. I have a complete set of cast iron if anyone wants to use it. Let me know if anyone needs anything that I can pick up for them since I am already here. In two days we can look at opening days forecast. Thurs is high of 52 and low of 29.

I will always take another one.

The 14th 29 is the low and 49 is the high. I try and layer my clothing, on the way out I carry my heavier stuff that way I don't sweat too much. Could not tell you on the Camo I wear everything camo but that is just me. I will wear a base layer with overalls and a fleece orange jacket. I have 600gram and 800gram layer boots plus pac boots I am taking just to be safe. I packed my hunting clothing today. I have 4 sets of gloves, 4 sets of base layers, 2 orange fleece jackets, 3 overalls - 1 light, 1 med and 1 heavy, 3 jackets - 2 med thickness 1 orange 1 light camo, and 1 heavy, 4 face masks light to heavy, 3 fleece hats 1 orange 2 camo the list continues but you get the idea. I plan on bringing some no scent laundry soap in-case I have to do laundry. Hope I helped a little. My big thing is scent control I pack everything in their own totes and throw dirt patches I bought some Pine ones but did not like the smell of it. I even throw my packs in the totes.

I have finally made up my mind I am going to winterize the trailer and take water with me. I should of listened to Charlie going up the mountain in the trailer so I will listen now. That way I will not have to worry about any pipes bursting. Going to get it done this weekend and hopefully fix my stairs too.

Got room for me on Sat Charlie? I was thinking the weekend of the 6th as well. I have some more cutting to do but I have some ready. Just give me a text or call Charlie.
-
I did the same thing looks promising. Now im trying to decide if I am going to get a heater for my potable water tank or just winterize it. Also finding the Elk would be nice.

Bow season ended today with no luck. I had an experience that is for sure. This past weekend I saw at least 80 deer and 6 Giants that I would of loved to shoot. 2 of them I was close enough to get with my bow. If I would of been deer hunting I would of seen nothing but elk. That is the way it goes sometimes. I broke my camper a couple of weekends ago. Still not completely fixed but I can get in without stairs for now. LOL I will talk to Charlie and get a sign together for when we deliver wood. Can not wait. I still having some shooting to do and will try and remember not to work out the week before this hunt my shoulders and legs are killing me right now never do shoulders and legs before you go hunting.

I was in my tree stand one cold Nov morning it was still kinda dark out and I was in one of those half awake half asleep moments when all of a sudden something landed on my head I about jumped out of my tree stand my heart was beating out of my chest. The SQUIRREL jumped off my head to another tree and proceeded to bark up a storm at me. If I had not just bought the arrows I did I would of been starring at a dead squirrel pinned to the tree.

I will be there late on the 18th or early on the 19th. See you all there.

Myself in a trailer, might have two with me. Someone I work with and his brother. I have room for one more. Charlie and I will make a wood trip down there soon. I still have 2 4ft by 4ft stumps to try and cut up. I am in better shape by splitting wood then I thought If any others need more wood I can try and collect some more I spot it on the side of the road and pick it up and I hit up Craigs list. I can not wait.
