  1. Yes as i am out way past the city limits (of a small town) there are hundreds of cotton tail and jack rabits ... litteraly all over so the food is there that was the first thing i looked for than the cover to hide with. i see what your saying DB but with a single shot, but cant you reload those pretty quick i hunt quial with a single 20 gauge in the fields arround my house and do ok, i figured a single would be more cost efficiant than a bolt or semi. - Also I should say im hunting in the hills of mostly alfalfa fields. there are deer, antilope, rabits, badgers, and squirrels a plenty almost anywhere within the next 200 miles of my house. Thanks for the support. Ill look into those guns.
  2. Hey guys & Gals, I recently moved to Northern Nevada and took up coyote hunting. Having a little bit of dificulty though was wondering if I could get some pointers from the experts (you). I scent lock down (I know is not required) Dress in camo, and cover as much of my tone as i can. We walk at least 100 + yards from truck and roads ... we can call them in infact i have seen a few but 9 times out of 10 ... i get nothing. We have been hunting higher elevations going up into the mountains, and after reviewing tapes i see they seem to be in low flat lands? Would this help? also how long do you sit before you leave the stand? I usualy stay in one place for about 3 hours than if i havnt seen one ... ill leave and go home. Aslo I go either at 5am or be in stand by 5 pm ... Too late? too Earlie? I use a Cottontail distress and Coyote Locator 95% of the time somtimes thowing in a squeaker (usualy when i can hear them bark) I know they are in the are im hunting but just seems i cant get them in close enough to shoot. This brings me to another topic can anyone refer a 22-250 that would be a good inexpensive, but decent gun for a starter? I like the single shots i see some of the pros use but dont know if i should go for a bolt action etc... I do however know i want a 22-250. Any recomendations would be appreciated. Thanks for the posts. Anyhelp is helpful.
  3. Ive heard rumors of deer being color blind etc they can however notice the shade of color like a black and white movie so to speak. Basicly u want natural colors and natural colors with natural patterns superceeds that. So black browns tans etc are good. White is like lime green. They will spot you. Try wearing a long sleve that breathes well like under armor or vented well.
  4. Thats sweet! Tell more how u come across that
  5. I have had a similar experiance buying a tent online. Now i have 2 lol. Gotta love em.
  6. Well its my friday, we are headed out over Dun glen mountain again to camp out tonight and be up earlie for the dogs. hope to get one this time - will keep you posted and share pix reguardless of kills. Been a long day at work so I think ill just crack a beer and enjoy the camp fire tonight rather than go out hunting . Have a good weekend everyone.
  7. Right on Db, i just looked up the Powder horn, looks nice and its a 10x. its on sale right now for 120 at cab. so i may end up getting it. i dont want anything too nice as this is more of a truck gun that rides with me for yotes here in NV. I never really hunt large game with it. (or my older ones for that matter) I appriciate the help as im new to Muzzle and didnt know they made scopes specifically for them.
  8. Yeah we are headded back to the same area this weekend to take the Kids camping, maybe we can bag one than. It should give us more time to hunt in the am and pm, will keep posted from the spot when i get there.
  9. Can anyone reccomend a good black powder scope to go on a cheep CVA i just picked up - id prefer not to spend more than 100 on it as the gun wasnt more than 125. I know you get what you pay for when it comes to optics, however this will just be used for target practice as hunting large game here in NV is illegal with Scoped Black Powder. Any links to a decent one would be appriciated. Im about to go buy a Cheep one from walmart for 60 bucks.
  10. Well I have a friend who has never been huntin so I figured why wait till bird season. We live in NV so coyotes are aplenty. Luckily i live on a ranch so we headed out over the mountain just before dusk. We did scent lock down as it does help here and brought a 308 yes i know is overkill but as i said he was a first time hunter and i wanted to be sure it went down with any shot takken. about an hour in of using a locator and cottontail call we watched one rocket in within 50 yards .... perfect shot i thought. so we got it to stop and took the shot...... swing and a miss.... no way could u miss with a 16x scope at 50 yards rite? come to find out the next day at the range the scope was slightly loose causing it to shoot low and left. i just posted this as a reminder. we all get caught up in the excitment of going huntin and often forget to check our gear. be sure ya hit the range and check scope mounts before fillin a tag so you dont end up like us this year. thankfully it was just a yote.... happy huntin
  11. ar parts i believe midway does but not for sure my buddy gets his stuff for ar there
  12. Anyone out west gona be hunting chuckar? didnt draw no tags thos year in NV so guess chucs and quail's all i got disappointed but excited all in the same. sux NV requires a thunder chicken tag for what we got and in spring but i GOTTA put in lol. Happy hutntin to those if us who have to go for small game.
