  1. Well. I'm back. Had to uninstall the app because nothing would load. Back on Tapatalk. But the hunt didn't exactly go so well. Got in the stand and only saw one small doe for the evening. And driving out I saw several tracks walk right by another stand that weren't there when I pulled in. And to make it worse. The roads had turned to solid ice. It was like a skating rink. Made it halfway home when I saw a truck in a ravine in the corner of my eye. So I slowed down to turn around( which took me almost a 1/4mile in the ice) and went back to help. It was a family of 4 with two Young daughters and a chocolate lab in the bed. They ran off the road. Down the steep embankment about 50 yards and hit a tree head on doing around 35. There were no serious injuries but I stayed and waited on the ambulance anyway. In 20 minutes time. There were 3 more wrecks in that little stretch of road. Non serious. But it was enough to make highway patrol make me leave for our safety. Made it home and checked the trail cameras. Had a really nice buck. That I got pictures of last year in December. He hasn't grown much at all. Still a nice buck though. Maybe 130" 9 pt
  2. should I hunt tomorrow? Well. I told the girlfriend I'm leaving early in the AM. I know the cold front isn't supposed to actually come through till sometime after noon. But I think the late morning hunt could be productive too. I may hunt Thursday as well. If I feel that the road conditions would be safe enough to make the hour and a half drive.
  3. We have a huge cold front which I'm sure most of you are aware of coming in. I live in SW missouri and the temps are supposed to start out around 65. Then drop all day to a low of 28. Then Thursday we have snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected all day long. With a low getting down to 6. Would it be best to hunt before this front. Or right as it starts snowing? It's not going to be a massive snowfall. Only maybe 3-5". I know I'll hunt either by the winter wheat, or by the some prairie grass that does flock to during late season. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Included is a layout of the property. (Crosshairs are stands, and the deer symbols are food sources)
  4. Job Interview Lol thanks y'all. Interview went well. Should have a call back by the end of next week.
  5. Well. I've been without steady work since March. I finally got a interview today. In a couple of hours. The work would be for a HVAC Technican/Instructor for Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. For me only being 24, I see this as one heck of an opportunity. HVAC is figuratively, and literally in my blood. I've been around it since I was 5 when my dad started his own Heating and Cooling company. I even went to College for HVAC and ran dads company successfully for a month while he was in the hospital. I'm extremely nervous to say the least.
  6. What am i doing wrong? If the blind was just put up recently. The deer most likely noticed that and spooked because of it. I've had it happen before on rainy days. Perfect wind and scent control. They still didn't like something that wasn't normally there
  7. the buck came to me this time I found some scrapes. 3-5 that had been cleaned up in a 20 yard area. Just where I had noticed does bedding every morning and afternoon. It was an extremely worn fence crossing just inside the timber. If I wasn't coming down with bronchitis. I'd probably head out there this weekend. But. I doubt I'll be able. I get pneumonia way too much for not even being 25 yet.
  8. the buck came to me this time Yeah I noticed that Saturday. Fawns back with does was the biggest clue.
  9. So I like living in the country and being able to watch the deer. Over the past few years I've watched fawns grow up. And new ones born. There's one very elusive 12 pt running around, I'm guessing he just has a big home range due to the houses. But tonight I come home. And see a sapling in the driveway that didn't look quite right. One of the few bucks had been around lol. Good sign that the primary rut is over.
  10. Best Deer Camp To Date! (Pic Heavy) Awesome story. And nice deer! I remember my first. And we've all made less than perfect shot. Congrats on the deer and the memories!!!!!!!!!
  11. Where'd the deer go? Last Saturday my dad was able to rattle up a 115-120 buck 3 times throughout the day. But never shot. Were are determined to get one above 145. But he went and hung two new trail cameras today. Hopefully when I go back in two weeks we have some encouraging pictures to share.
  12. I went yesterday and my morning was extremely slow. All I saw was three fawns. But they seemed to be pushing each other around as if a monkey see monkey do. Type of thing. As I walked out to warm up. I noticed several new scrapes. Or cleaned up scrapes. I checked a trail cam as well. I had one pic of a 3.5 yr old 8. That was broke to a bare main beam on the right side. He looked about like I feel this morning. He was extremely run down. And it was a 12:03am picture. The afternoon hunt was a little better. The past weekend I noticed 4 does that come off the neighbors ridge around 4 and come to our winter grasses. They usually stop at a thicket at the fence which is where the scrapes were. I was hoping big boy was in there and their scent would draw him out. As they came in I noticed there was 6 this time. Two fawns had returned. I'm guessing these does had been bred already? Right at dark a small spike came out and fed on the grass for maybe 10 minutes before moving on. My question is. Where are the mature deer. Peak breeding(lockdown) seems to be slowly declining. I am afraid our Mennonite neighbors are hunting illegally. We caught them two years ago rifle hunting in early October. I would like to put more trail cameras out in our better locations. But if they trespass. They would walk right by them. Anybody else having any luck or have any advice? I am in SW missouri. Rifle season is closing in a few days. And I may wait a few weeks to start bow hunting again to let the deer calm down some.
  13. got my bow buck back Thanks guys. He's a nice one. Not the biggest. But I was extremely happy with him for the first 10 days of season. Looking for big boy now.
  14. Got my European mount back from the taxidermist. Took this buck Sept. 24 right about sunset. He was headed to the beans. He weighed close to 200 dressed. Still digging the unicorn point.
