  1. I carry on and off the job, always. Every able law abiding citizen should be carrying.
  2. That is what I call a fine shooting rifle! Congratulations on the fine build and work!
  3. My .22s are sighted in at about 40 yards for small game hunting. My .17 HMR and .my 17 WSM, about 50 yards for the same reason. My main game is tree squirrels and secondary, rabbits and varmints.
  4. I have been hunting with my .17 WSM Savage BMAG for over a year now and have had great success. I am wondering if anyone else here has anything to share about their .17 WSM rifles.
  5. I hope Bobby and the others take the offenders to the cleaners and nails their hides to the wall. He has solid grounds for a great lawsuit.
  6. Yeah on that! That looks a lot like one of the patrol trucks I drive. It is a great truck.
  7. I bought a new '94 Toyota T100 4X4 and at about 50,000 miles, power steering pump died. After-market pump had better offer than factory replacement. I traded that truck for a new '01 Tundra and had no problems. It got traded for an '06 Tundra and absolutely no problems. Our patrol trucks at work are mostly 4X4s. They are Chevys and Fords, and one big older 4X4 Dodge that I like to drive. Most of our trucks are new, furnished by Uncle Sam. With proper service, we don't seem to have many going in for repair. Our patrol cars don't hold up as well, for obvious reasons.
  8. It's like -7 or so below 0 here in SE Iowa, with the wind chill factor. It reminds me of living in Alaska before I got married. I'm darn glad I don't have to work today.
  9. Ha ha, tamed them right down, proper, XT! A few hours before I went on duty a while back, one of our day shift Lt's went to check out a big male bobcat snared around its middle, was caught with a too long length of wire. It was on top of a tall high security fence and tangled up with the top strands of barbwire. The cat was maniac crazy. Boss tried to club it without success because he left HQ without his issued sidearm. He had to drive some miles back to HQ, strap on his sidearm, and then go shoot the cat. Years ago I worked for an airline. On occasions, we received pets. Dogs were fine but cats in the cages were like crazy rabid animals. we couldn't offer cats water or food due to a real risk of personal injury.
  10. Nice going, Mudcreek! You get around, fella. Sincerely, Old Hickory
  11. You fellas offer some good suggestions. I have been making custom knives for over 25 years and I use an Edgemaker Pro for a quick field edge. I have passed out the same sharpner to many of my clients. With its bright orange handle, it's also easy to keep track of. No, I do not sell them.
  12. Very nice, Shaun! My brother has a .220 Swift and swears by it.
  13. Good for you, XT! And yeah on tasty critters!
  14. Yes! Bless you for asking! As a hard core squirrel hunter of many years, our Iowa season has been good this year. I am surprised of no replies to this thread. Kind of disgraceful, in fact. No other squirrel hunters here? I can't hear ya! This year was interesting. A widow of about 94 years of age asked if I would eliminate some gray squirrels that have chased off her favorite fox sqiirrels. Of course, I am always to help landowners where I hunt. Her farmhouse sits on the Mississippi river bluff and is wooded with many den trees. Her house is smack-dab center of a gray squirrel highway so it was a constant war of sniping with my .17 WSM rifle. In the yard by her house is a big maple den tree with lots of den holes with the squirrel and bird feeders, and a nearby heated water bowl. I have shot a good number of grays there and on every return I spot another gray zip into the same hole. I hunt the bluff also, of course. The bluff holds a good population of squirrels, a seemingly constant supply. She had dozen almost wild cats she finally could not feed and had them live trapped but one big smart tomcat avoided the trap and I think it was guilty of killing the lady's disappeared fox squirrels. The wise tomcat and I had an unplanned meeting in the woods about a half mile north of the house. He was hunting the same thing I was. I retired him. I think he was the actual reason the widow's fox squirrels disappeared, seeing as how they are slower and used to hanging out around the house. I showed the cat and two gray squirrels to her and her daughter and we were all happy.
  15. Wow! That hadda hurt and make you mad, wtn! I shoot feral cats everytime I have a chance, for good reason. I have been hard bitten by cats a couple of times and shot one cat close to home that had full blown rabies that attacked my dog and me. You for sure have a lot of patience, much more with that cat and inlaw than I would have. I was holding a neighbor's big pet cat that had just killed most of a batch of wood ducks that bailed out of their nest by home. My brother and I were teenagers at the time and were debating as to what to do with the cat. Suddenly, the cat snatched my throat in it's teeth and wouldn't let go until I finally choked it enough that it had to release my throat. It's claws were dug in me, also. I won't admit to the cat's demise but that cat's duckling killing was brought to a sudden end. The cat owner searched for a long time for his free ranging cat, without luck.
