  1. Only problem is I have a maverick 91 which won't take slugs cause of the barrel. So head shots it is!
  2. is the hornady heavy magnum coyote any good for hog hunting? from what I've read it packs a pretty decent punch, but there is a big difference between a coyote and a couple hundred pound hog
  3. Congratulations. A very nice bird
  4. Thanks for the help y'all. I've used my voice over the past few years since I moved away from my parents for school and haven't been able to hunt with my dad, but have never got anything to gobble that way, so I wasn't sure if it was me or the birds, I am hunting public land after all, and I've heard the land I'm hunting the turkeys are rather difficult, which I've come to learn myself. I'll test out the owl call I bought and see if it produces better results than my voice, if not I'll hang on to it just incase or return it.
  5. Anybody care to throw some input on locator calls. My dad could always sound like an owl, I feel like my voiced owl hooting doesn't have the same effect as his does, so I bought a knight and hale owl hooter. Would I be just as wise to return it and use my voice, or my loud yelping locator diaphragm?
  6. No luck here yet here in north fl. Had one gobble in two days of hunting, slight cold front this coming weekend so we will see what happens.
  7. Only had one gobble on Saturday, watched him fly off his roost only to be spooked by a distant gun shot before he made it to me. Walked three hours Sunday morning without hearing a thing.
  8. Dang, we've had about two weeks of warm weather here so I'm hoping they haven't henned up already, after being abnormally cold the weeks prior.
  9. Just two more restless nights until opening morning here in tally town florida. Good luck to all those who open up this weekend (I know it's Georgia opening weekend as well) and to those who have been fortunate enough to have hit the woods already!
  10. I have a browning .243 blr lightweight '81 with a bushnell sportview 3x scope, with the open mounts to use the iron sights still. Dead on at 100 yards and has been for over 30 years since my dad bought it... Goes to show you don't need anything fancy, just go something you can afford and practice will make perfect.
  11. got a box 10 shell box of nitro 3 inch number 5's at bass pro, found them on sale. She can shoot clays well, so hoping she will be able to lay one down, if not I'll have my maverick 91 with 3.5 number 4 kent diamond steel, and I know that sucker will bring em down. Season starts here in North Florida on March 21, hopefully be able to have some pictures, I hunt public land so there tends to be a lot of pressure.
  12. thanks y'all, appreciate the help
  13. Any preference of shot size?
  14. I'm taking my gf turkey hunting for the first time and the set up I have for her is a 20 ga remington express mag with a tru glo smackdown choke. Any recommendations on shells? I was contemplating remington nitros or Winchester double x in 4s or 5s. Just because you can't beat the price. But still open to other suggestions and advice. Thanks y'all
