  2. Yes, Joe and that other guy they hunt with on Meat eater are pretty entertaining. Meat eater is probably the best hunting show out there. There is even 2 seasons of it on netflix. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. Got an electric smoker for Christmas and have done a Boston pork butt with a dry rub and hickory chips. It was amazing. Going to try ribs tomorrow. One of these times I will try some deer wrapped in bacon. I got one of those digital thermometers with the probe and cord. I can check the temp from outside the smoker so I never have to open in unless I was adding a little more water. Getting a smoker has started a new hobby. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. Like others have said I keep mine loaded and won't dump the load and clean everyday if I didn't shoot it. The longest I have went is one week, but it wasn't wet out during the week and it worked just fine. That was with triple 7 pellets. Just keep it at a consist temperature to reduce condensation. If it rains or snows while I'm out with it I will dump the load and clean it. I still use a T/C Black Diamond and that thing is kind of a pain to clean and the primer is exposed to the elements. In the snow or rain I wrap plastic wrap around the top of the scope and in front of the trigger guard to block the primer from any wetness from rain or snow. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. Really want to get a new one, but can't justify it. I have a 2011 PSE bow madness and it does fine for just being a main line series bow. I would like to get a new and have that one be my back. Yet I try not to look at new ones because I don't want to talk myself into throwing down the money for one. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  6. Story time. Iowa 2nd shotgun season. It was about 15 minutes before legal shooting time was over and three deer appeared about 70 yards in front of me. It was getting dark and one stepped out in an opening. I saw antlers and had to decide pretty quick if I was going to shoot or not. I decided to pull the trigger on the ole smoke pole. After the shot I watched him run off aways and thought I saw him veer to the side and go down. I was sitting in a fallen down tree, and gathered up my things. By the time I got to the area I shot him it was pretty dark. I forgot my good flashlight in the truck which was about a 1.5 mile walk away. So I wandered around a bit looking for blood in the snow with my not so bright head lamp. Meanwhile I was talking to my friend on the phone asking him to come help me and bring a spot light. After not finding the spot I shot him I tried looking where I thought he went down. Now it was completely dark. I was just about to give up and go meet my friend and continue the seach when I had better light, but by chance I stumbled across some hair. Once I found the hair I also found some blood and started following it. While following the blood I found a nice shed antler on the ground. I thought to myself my buck either dropped one of its antlers or another deer happened to drop one here. I continued following the blood until it stopped. There was snow on the ground so the blood was easy to see, but it just stopped. I looked around for a little bit until I decided to walk back and meet my friend so I could carry him across a creek since he didn't have boots to get across. With better light we got back on the blood trail and where it stopped. We looked and looked but couldn't pick it back up. I then had him stand at the last blood while I did big circles in the direction the trail was going. I did about a 100 yard semi circle in the direction the deer was going and got nothing. After that I walked back to him and was about to call it a night and try in the morning. I was standing there about to tell him that when I pointed my flash light to my right. That's when he said there it is! Relief washed over me as I looked over and saw him laying there not 15 yards from the last blood and up against a log. We probably walked right by him 3 times and never saw him laying there. What he did was run about 50 yards and turned back as he went down. We were looking where the blood trail was heading and it being dark didn't see it laying against the log. Both antlers were gone so the one I found was his. We could not find his other one so either it was already gone or we just didn't see it. This is where it gets interesting. I started gutting him and when going down in between his legs I notice something isn't right. But I continue and realize there was some type of injury through his pelvis and legs. And there was some green in there. I then looked on the outside of his right back leg and sure enough there was a whole from most likely a shotgun slug. He had already been shot through the back legs and pelvis, and infection had set in. I'm guessing he was shot during the first shotgun season two weeks prior. This explained why he was losing his antlers so early. I most likely did this guy a favor since I don't think he would have made it through winter. Anyway this adventure wrapped up my hunting season. Good luck to you guys if you still have some season left, and Merry Christmas. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  7. It's 2nd shotgun season here, so I've been out the last two days. I've been seeing deer, but nothing I have wanted to take. Actually have seen a good amount of deer which is surprising this time of year on public ground. Going out this afternoon with my little sister. She has never been deer hunting and is just going to sit with me. May put one down tonight we will see. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  9. When I first started deer hunting, I had big bucks pounded into my head. I watched too many TV shows and read too many hunting magazines. I've been deer hunting for 6 years and I passed a few the first couple of years that I would not now. I figured out that you cant set unreal standards that you see on the TV shows. The more I got into archery the more I enjoyed the work it takes to get close to deer and kill them with an arrow. With that said yes I've passed some that I have regretted, but it is what it is. Lately I have been happy with the experience of hunting and putting meat in the freezer. A rack is a nice added bonus. Good luck to you and your family. Hopefully someone puts him down. 11. Good luck guys. I won't be deer hunting again until gun season. I planned on going for late muzzle loader so I could have more time, but I might be doing 2nd shotgun season instead to help a buddy get a deer. He doesn't hunt that much and I've been pretty lucky this year so I will probably focus more on getting him one. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  15. I can't describe how blessed I have been bow hunting this year. Tonight I went into a public land spot I've only hunted once before. With my stand and sticks on my back, bow in hand, and hip boots on, I hiked in a little over a mile. To get there I had to go through a creek/river probably 20 yards across and little over knee high deep. I found a few scraps on a field edge next to some corn, so I set up where I could shot the field edge and into the woods. Well not long after I got set up a small 8 point came cruising by in the woods and he went down after a forty yard sprint. Got my arrow, tagged him, and called a buddy to help. Then I packed up the stand and went back to the truck to get the deer cart and by the time I got there my buddy was waiting. This is where it gets good. My buddy didn't have hip boots. So when we got to the creek I went across set our stuff down and went back to pick him up. Literally picked him up and piggy backed him about 20 yards across the creek. It was definitely a fun night. Also I got us a couple more points! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
